NJ students suspended for range pictures on social media
NJ.com reports that two high school students in Lacey Township High School were sentenced to five days in-school suspension for pictures that they shared on social media of their day at a local range;
The photo of four rifles, ammunition clips and a gun duffel bag was shared by one of the students on the social media app Snapchat with the caption “fun day at the range,” according to Lacey Township resident Amanda Buron, a family friend of one of the students.
The school district superintendent, Craig Wigley, says that reports on social media are incorrect, but he fails to tell us what exactly is incorrect.
“We are not at will to contradict public opinion on the internet,” Wigley wrote. He declined to be interviewed by phone.
Huh? Once again in English, please.
Ed Cardinal, whose son attends the high school but was not one of the students involved in the gun range photo, said the district has overstepped in other ways.
District officials demanded that his son remove a window sticker depicting a gun from his pickup truck that he drives to school.
“He was kind of heated about it and so was I,” Ed Cardinal said, adding that they removed the sticker after administrators threatened to punish the teenager.
New Jersey is good place to live, if you hate firearms. They are about to ban .50 caliber rifles, even though one has never been used in a crime, the rifle itself is too big and too expensive to be considered by criminals, ammunition is priced right out of criminal market.
But, hey, when you want to do “something, anything” to make voters feel safer, there’s no easier target than legal firearms and lawful gun owners.

NOTE: “For Any Reason, On or Off School Grounds”. What children do “off school grounds is no Damned business of theirs and is no part of “Education”. This is wrong in so many ways.

I have a question a few years ago my son was stabbed on two different occasions when he was at school in mid-school, both times there was a visible wound and blood, and so is that weapon going to be cause for suspension?
Oh, by the way the weapon was a #2 pencil. Two different ones by the same student; but he was a minority so just got an in school suspension the initial time and a 3 day the second time.

I was thinking about that as I was writing the above. I went to school in both the Edmonds and North Thurston school districts. I remember playing “war” during recess in Elementary school and talking about shooting and hunting in middle and high school. Western Washington has changed a lot since the 60′ and mid-70’s. I remember my buddies in high school having rifles locked up in their pick up trucks or car trunks. We would go out to see the newest weapon during lunch…in the school parking lot.
No one got shot, no one was frightened and it seemed just about everybody cleared the weapon before they looked at, even if their buddy had cleared it 30 seconds before. Those that demonstrated weapon ignorance were brought up to speed.
Not that the official stance is any better over here in E WA now. Both our sons have their own rifles, and know how to safely use them. They also know how to use revolvers and pistols. They also know that Mrs Dino is a better shot with a rifle than yours truly…dammit.

My .44 mag Trapper carbine will raise a dust cloud in front of me from the standing position. The fireball at night is truly awe inspiring. The same round from my 5 &3/4 Smith gives an even more virulent blast.

I find Martini recoil similar to midrange .45-70 loads in a Marlin 95 Guide.

What blows me away is the “off school grounds” policy.
At what point was it considered, debated, voted on, and approved, that the school administrators have the authority to regulate the conduct of students when they are not in school?
You would be surprised on the authority that your school district thinks they have on children off-campus. Just check out a few of their regulations (should be on-line at their website).
Remember, these are the same people that use PBIS (Google it) to discipline students in school… and wonder why kids are out of control during the school day.

I’m not so sure Craig Wigley, the incoherent school superintendent, is acting in the interest of voters. Usually, the way things work is that Wigley would be hired under contract by an elected school board. Sometimes a superintendent with strong teacher support and a weak school board can get away with almost anything.
Suspending the students for what they do on social media is an overreach particularly since they weren’t engaged in an illegal activity. Wigley might have a better argument with the bumper sticker because it happened on school grounds, but the message of the sticker is fundamentally political. This means if Wigley wants to violate free speech on school grounds by banning pro-2nd Amendment stickers, he needs to at least ban all other stickers of a political cast. Including those for the faculty.
Somebody should be getting in the school board’s face to make them yank Wigley’s chain.
Banning Rights explicitly stated in the Constitution…..says it all.

Don’t know but am willing to bet that these same school administrators do NOT punish students who engage in illegal activity off school grounds with the same vigor that they went after these kids who did nothing illegal, immoral, or remotely threatening to anyone at a time and place having nothing to do with their school/s. They probably don’t even call the police when someone inside their school does something illegal.
Do they suspend kids who do drugs in the school? Do they suspend kids who commit sexual assault in the school? Set fires? Or anything other than some arbitrary use of words which they define as hurtful or something?

Thankfully my sons will have the chance to take a Firearms Safety, Hunters and First Aid courses at their Northern Alberta high school(about 90 students).
Most of the students come from the local Reservation, so I have their parents to thank for these very practical courses that would not even be considered in the largely Libtard Southern Canada.
The kids today need to learn the practical skills that are largely lost on the current 20- something Millenials.

If some kid does something stupid such as posting an implied threat on social media, like those two geniuses did on Snapchat right after the Parkland shooting, in this county it is reported to the police, who do their job and investigate it. Never has there been an issue here with kids posting something like these kids did on social media, when they’re not in the school’s allotted space.
I do not think what this superintendent did was even remotely legal, as there was nothing, not even an implied threat. Therefore, the parents of those kids should haul his ass into court and make it cost him dearly.
The only part of NJ that I have ever seen is Fort Dix, Fort Monmouth, Newark and Port Elizabeth. Occassionaly, I run into a hunter from there that talks about the great deer hunting in the north western swamps.

I’ve noticed this a lot, in cases where schools come under scrutiny for this kind of stupidity.
In each and every case, it seems, the school is enforcing a school rule that extends it’s coverage into areas of the community, and the lives of it’s students, where it has no legal authority to do so.
School rules are only supposed to policies set out for behavior during school hours, on school property; very much as employers and employees have in the workplace.
These schools have been extending these policies in such a way as to make them LAWS. This is a violation of the constitution without any question, since it is not within their power to legislate law. And they most certainly cannot extend their rules into the homes of the students since doing so is extending that rule into the lives of the parents, or any other adult who might happen to reside there (as would be the case in rental property).
It would be really fun if these kids were participating in the Olympics in one of the shooting sports
And the first thing the school district heard about it would be if they win a gold medal for the United States in for instance biathlon
Then they could be suspended for winning the United States a gold medal in the Olympics
Don’t think it can’t happen! Read of a college some years ago that eliminated their rifle team (or whatever it was called). Seems that several members of the team were reigning national champs, world medalists and Olympic hopefuls. One may have gone on to win a gold at the Olympics. (It’s been a while ago – forget which school. Maybe 15 years ago, give or take?)
