Illinois Gun Show bans AR-style rifle sales

| March 6, 2018

Chicago’s CBS Local News reports that the DuPage County Pioneer Valley Sportsman’s Show held at the county’s fairgrounds has banned the sale of AR-style rifles and bump stocks as well as canceling gun raffles in response to a few gun control nuts who started protesting there this last weekend.

The Huffington Post reminds us about the non-existent “gun show loophole”;

Gun shows from South Carolina to New Mexico have become targets of protesters since the Parkland massacre. Unlicensed private sellers at such events can take advantage of the “gun show loophole” in which they can skirt federal laws that must be followed by licensed dealers and stores. Federal law does not require unlicensed private sellers at gun shows to check a buyer’s identification, perform any background checks or even record sales.

The federal government also doesn’t require private sellers at a folding table in their front yard to check a buyer’s identification or conduct a NICS check. Nor do they require a private seller in a darkened parking lot selling from the trunk of his car to check a buyer’s ID or conduct a NICS check. Every time I bought a firearm at a gun show, I went through a NICS check. So what’s your point, gumball?

From The Washington Post;

Frank Cesare — of the Pioneer Valley Sportsman’s Association, which has hosted the show for more than 40 years — said the decision followed complaints the group received after the Parkland shooting and as gun-control advocates planned to protest.

“We did the ban to try to calm the situation down and show them we are willing to work with them,” he said, referring to the protesters.

Yeah, the gun control fascists don’t want to “work” with anyone, they just want you to follow instructions.

I’m sure that the DuPage County organizers will return to their previous policies soon, you know, after they discover that interest has waned every time they acquiesce to the protesters at the expense of their clientele.

The only recourse I can see is for folks to stay away from the gun show in droves, and tell the vendors why.

David

That only hurts the gun show operators. Better for the operators to move the show out and deprive the cpounty of all the revenue and taxes.

David

Upon further reflection, given the left-wing corruption in that entire metro area and Occam’s Razor, the simplest explanation is that local pols essentially gave the operators of the bans or a shut-down with no refunds.

Ex-PH2

DuPage County is NOT part of Cook County, nor is it part of Metro Chicago.
It is, unfortunately, populated in certain places by people who want to rid the county of its bucolic loveliness and turn it into shopping centers and office buildings – lefty stuff, don’tcha know.

ALVO

Agreed, I lived in Chicago and the Northern burns for over 20 years and I can assure you that the spoiled wives club had EVERYTHING to do with this ban…that and a spineless show operator. The place is RIFE with NIMBYs and Liberal Doucherollers. “Gun Free Zone” signs abound….yet…the FIRST THING they start screaming when someone carjacks/strongarm robs/burgles/scratches their Benz is: “Where are the Police”, AND My fav: “If only I had a gun…”

Ex-PH2

“So what’s your point, gumball?”

The point is to be in the center of attention, squawk loudly, repeat false info as often as possible, and stay in the center of attention just to annoy people.

The result is that they become more of a threat than the people who attend the gun show, don’t they?

The Other Whitey

I’m really pissed. I’ve purchased multiple weapons at gun shows, but I had to fill out a 4473, show ID, pay a DROS fee, and wait ten days to pick up my weapon from an FFL shop. Where’s that loophole I was promised?

Pecos Phil

Ditto!

JacktheJarhead

Yup, same here. It actually takes longer at a gun show because the cellular service sucks.

Graybeard

They need to remember the words of Winston Churchill:

“…this is the lesson: never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never-in nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

https://www.nationalchurchillmuseum.org/never-give-in-never-never-never.html

Acquiescence to tyranny never brings freedom from tyranny, but only encourages the tyrants to greater demands that we give up our freedoms.

2/17 Air Cav

Yeah, works a lot like terrorism, don’t it?

rgr769

Just heard on the news tonight that the screeching moonbats (proggies) are angry about Gary Oldman’s Oscar for “Darkest Hour” because…, get ready for it,…Churchill was an “evil white racist” who “killed” tens of thousands of brown people (something about Bengalis). Apparently, saving Western Europe and possibly the world from Nazism doesn’t count, at all. But the Commies who have killed over 120 million of their own people, progtards are OK with them.

OWB

Yep. Yapping dogs make more sense than barking moonbats.

Heard that Gary Oldham thanked the US for the success of his film. He probably should have known better. Then again, part of that audience likely didn’t like there even being a best actor category.

rgr769

They especially didn’t like the fact an “evil” white male from England received it instead of an other than white person or some actor from a third world country.

Atkron

First it is the scary black rifles, then it is all semi-automatic firearms…then any firearm.

How far will the hysteria carry this lunacy?

How many of you have Twitter? Follow Dana Loesche and see the vile crap she puts up with every single day just because she is the Spokesperson for the NRA.

When do we push back? The apathy that lawful gun owners have needs to stop. We have counted on the fact that the 2nd Amendment itself will protect us from the infringement. Yet, we see stories daily where public opinion has swayed courts to ignore the protections.

Reddawg_03

Great question. When DO we push back?

AW1Ed

A pretty good start here:

Georgia Guts Delta Tax Break

Georgia is making good on its threat against Delta Air Lines to strip a proposed tax break that would have benefited the major carrier after it said earlier this week that it would no longer offer group discounts to National Rifle Association (NRA) members.

Hit ’em square in the wallet.

Fjardeson

Good job, Georgia!

David

And the best part is that Delta’s own data says they did a whopping 13 NRA discount fares last year. Think that works out to almost $3mill per passenger.

NavyEODguy

I “pushed back” this past weekend when I bought me one of them thar scary black things that self load & go on killing sprees all on it’s own.

This one is extra scary though. That long thing where the bullets come out is real thick; it has this black thingy on the top with grooves in it for some reason (maybe to saw off a arm or leg when out on a self imposed melee & runs out of those bullet things in the clip), then there’s this handle like thing on the right side with a knobby end that moves up, then back forward, then back down to the starting point.

To make itself look even meaner there’s that thing on the back that presses up against your shoulder, but it looks more like a piece of black metal with fancy bends in it. It also has two other attachments on the back thing. They both have these screw like things attached to them to one piece moves up or down (but it seems to me this would cause too much pressure on the side of your face) and the other screw like thing moves the fancy bent metal piece forward or back (I really don’t know what that “thing” is for).

So yeah. They pissed me off with all their emotion filled, anti-gun, gun control rhetoric, so I happened to need to go to JRB Fort Worth this weekend. The gun shop had several scary, black rifles on sale. So I bought one. A Ruger Precision in 6.5 creedmoor; walked out with it for $1050.

Now I gotta save up for 4-6 months to get me a nice scope I’ve been looking at for a while.

I read Dana’s book when it came out and got some education on the reason the 2A was written up plus a lot of other information. Great read.

desert

The solution is for manufacturers to stop making those nasty unsafe black guns, and start making safe, civilized, white guns, or pink, or chartreuse, or mauve etec etc LOL 😉

rgr769

Many pistols and AR’s are now available in pink and colors other than your basic black. My mrs. has a 9mm with a pink frame.

Hondo

This should come as no surprise. DuPage County is one of the counties making up the greater Chicago Metropolitan Statistical Area. It’s also the second most populous in the Chicago MSA, trailing only Cook County.

Idiots gonna be idiots. But they’ll certainly “feel good about themselves” afterwards.

What were you expecting from religious fanatics like them, API?

desert

?? What RELIGIOUS fanatics?

Graybeard

If you don’t know, desert, I’m not sure I can explain it to you.

Take care when interjecting comments in adult conversations.

rgr769

It’s almost like the maxims of ol’ Joe Goebbels were inspiration for Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals,” the Koran of progtardism.

Graybeard

The same tactics keep working, so why change? (cf. The Screwtape Letters, C.S. Lewis.)

Mason

Some mighty fine virtue signalling there.

Guessing the turnout for this show will be down dramatically.

Thunderstixx

If it was me putting that gun show on, I would not do the show and then sue the county for millions for changing the contract for the venue after it was already signed and agreed to.
If I was a vendor, and I do work a few gun shows, I would also sue the county for interference with interstate commerce. Take that to a good solid conservative judge and fight back against the spineless bureaucrats that allow loudmouths to violate our Second Amendment God Given right to defend ourselves against all comers…
If they don’t do something like this, they will continue to strip away our rights.
Why didn’t we heart any of this shit after the Sutherland Springs shooting in the San Antonio area? Because the shooting was stopped by a good guy with an AR 15, and that just wouldn’t fit the narrative…
Other leaders of hostile countries are just hoping that we lose our Second Amendment right, they will overrun the country as soon as the confiscation is complete…
Fuck these people.

JacktheJarhead

So, when the dealers find no one at the show or only people looking for “Fine Hunting Rifles”. They are probably not going to be back. I have seen it before. Only junk dealers end up there and the gun show gets cancelled. You are not going to work with them. They want you to stop doing what they don’t like.

Rb325th

You cannot work with people, who have nothing but stripping away our Rights. There is no middle ground left! Yield no more.

Excellent quote. Never heard it before.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

I just got the list of the gun shows in my area and they are still on the same schedule as the 1/4/18 print out that I printed out back then. Hope to go March 17th.and see if there are protesters and bans on the STG 44 Sturmgewehr 44’S. belay that last. I mean the AUTOMATIC RIFLE or is it the Mattel ARMALITE semi automatic that uses clip fed magazines that fires a zillion rds a second when the trigger is pulled back and is worse when the exhaust fans at the local gun range push and pull the bullets faster than a mailbag at a train station whistle stop.

Ex-PH2

This event was on Sunday, March 4, and is now over.

There is another PVSA show at the same place on April 29, if anyone is interested in attending.

2/17 Air Cav

The protesters were not customers and never were customers and never will be customers. So, now that they have placated the people who won’t buy their product, they’ve gone and pissed off actual paying customers. Nice work, geniuses.

UpNorth

Yet again, the people involved in marketing and selling piss off the people who actually spend their money buying the product the marketers and sellers have. Brilliant!!!!!
I wonder who taught the Marketing classes these geniuses attended.

charles w

Just came home after buying my first AR-15.Used pre Colt Bushmaster. I even got a 30 round magazine here in Boulder County Colorado. Guy at the counter said the sheriff didn’t care if they sold them. So much for that law.

Fyrfighter

Charles,

Last i hear, only boulder, denver, and pueblo sheriffs failed to join the suit to repeal that stupidity… most chain stores adhere to the law, most small gun stores don’t… With places like dicks and walmart now refusing to sell long guns to anyone under 21, it’s time to avoid buying any guns from them, stick to the smaller places, they usually have better service anyway..ooh and congratz on your AR.. welcome to the club!

charles w

Yea, it was a mom and pop place. Where I am at used to be the anti Boulder. Now no one can afford to live there and they are trying to pollute us with their politics.

Fyrfighter

yeah, out here on the plains, our Sheriff, whatever his other flaws may be, encourages residents to get their CCW.. it’s kinda nice..

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

walmart still sells the Daisy red ryder and soft air rifles.

charles w

Should be a pre Remington Bushmaster.

Yef

How much did you pay?

charles w

600 bucks with the magazine and 300 rounds. Thought it would cost more with all the politics.

Fyrfighter

Not too shabby.. I’ve decided to just start building mine, that way I get just the features i want, and none that I don’t…even found a local place that cerakotes at a reasonable price…

Graybeard

“Frank Cesare … said the decision followed complaints the group received after the Parkland shooting and as gun-control advocates planned to protest.

Dear Frank Cesare,
Let me alert you to a dose of rock-hard reality: One cannot work with those who are absolutists, one cannot co-exist with those who are willing to completely destroy you and everyone like you.

Neville Chamberlain tried.
“Mutti” Angela Merkel is trying and losing.
Sweden is trying and rapidly approaching end-game.

You, Frank Cesare, are a blithering idiot for implementing another failed attempt.

Wilted Willy

Graybeard, I agree with you 100% These crybabies would never buy a gun anyway, so what do they gain? Yet, who are they going to scream for when somebody is attacking them or raping their daughters? They will be happy if anyone of us shows up with one of our scary black guns! I bought my AK-47 from a private seller and the feds have no idea that I have it. They can kiss my ass if they ever think they will!

Or as Henry the K put it, even more succinctly, “Even paranoids have enemies.”

A Proud Infidel®™

“Yet, who are they going to scream for when somebody is attacking them or raping their daughters?”

Quite a fair share of those moonbats are anti-LE as well, so I guess they can just call a crackhead, dope dealer, gangbanger or any combo thereof for help.

Thunderstixx

They are confirmed atheists and gun control freaks…
So, when somebody breaks into their house what are they going to do ???
Call someone with a gun to come and rescue them and pray that he gets there before they entire family is killed…

OWB

Some of them are so stupid that they really have no idea what to do when something bad happens to them. They simply cannot fathom it.

Fyrfighter

I agree.. I doubt seriously that they have a plan in the least, they believe that they are so superior that it’d never happen to them.

Graybeard

The “Titanic passenger” mindset: This is not really happening, it cannot happen to me!

EOD Rick

The sportsmans show sided with some protesters that don’t spend any money at the show. They will lose a lot in possible sales over this. Also they will never get back what they have conceded to these liberals.

Graybeard

As Instapundit often says:
“Get woke, go broke.”

Azygos

Here is a pretty good list of those who don’t want to take your guns. Or maybe not.

https://thewriterinblack.com/2017/05/17/nobody-wants-to-take-your-guns-2/

OWB

We need a list of those gun shows where protesters plan to be. I would happily carry a sign saying “What part of SHALL NOT BE ABBRIGED do you not understand?”

OWB

(or maybe abridged. or however it’s spelt.)

Hondo

In the Constitution, I’m pretty sure it’s spelled “infringed”. (smile)

OWB

Good. Infringed looks a whole lot easier to spell right on the first or second try.

(Would you believe I was going to look it up before making the sign? Yep. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it.)

Casey

An example of almost literally weapons-grade stupid.

FatCircles0311

Cucks gonna cuck.

Tis the season to cuck apparently.

lily

They should follow Trump and ban bump stocks too.

billy.hill

Fudds… I deal with the same garbage from all of the old men at the gun club when I break out my RPK or my silenced SBR. Keep backpedaling old man and next they’ll be banning your pump shotgun that you use for doves because why do you need 3 shots to hit a dove?

David

Some of those ‘old men’ know far more than thee… for instance that pump shotguns typically hold at least three rounds with plug and 5 or more when not. Think you mean double barrel or over/unders. They are also likely to own some very nice heirloom quality nice gun stuff. Knock not the older, you’ll be there soon enough.

Fyrfighter

David, my guess would be that he was speaking of the fact that the “old men” were saying something along the lines that it’d be ok to give up the right to own the firearms he was speaking of, that you don’t need them, etc, not understanding that if they give in to the demands to ban them, it won’t be long before the anti’s come for the pump shotguns, then the doubles, etc. their end game is and always has been the complete disarmament of the American people, and anyone who does not believe that is delusional
