13-year-old Ohio student planned school shooting
Mick sends us a link to the story of a 13-year-old Ohioan who planned a school shooting “bigger than anything this country’s ever seen”, but at the last moment, on February 20th, decided instead to kill himself with the .22 caliber pistol he’d brought to school.
A portion of an entry [on his phone] dated Feb. 19 reads:
“(T)his will be bigger than anything this country’s ever seen, … I’ve been planning this for a few weeks and thought about it a few months, I will never be forgotten I’ll be a stain in American history and the Simons history, it’s going to be so mutch [sic]. They won’t expect a thing.”
He left the school’s restroom with gun in hand, then, inexplicably, walked back in the restroom and took his own life.
Police have yet to discover any further evidence to what might have led Simons to change his mind from conducting a school shooting to taking his own life. It doesn’t appear anyone else was aware of Simons’ plans, the station reported.
He claimed that he was fascinated by school shootings, especially the 1999 Columbine tragedy that happened during the Clinton-era “assault rifle ban”. I’m not naming the shooter on purpose to rob him of his anticipated fame.

I have said many times, these morons do this for the notoriety…their birth certificates should be burned, no headstone and remove their names from EVERYTHING like they never existed and announce this is all the media and schools….no fame, no notoriety, whats the use?

Wait!! He didn’t use an AR? I thought that using a SBR was a requirement. Debbie Trashcan Schmutz and Alyssa Milano and Dave’s Hogg said so.
I’m still wondering how the hell he got on the bus, into school, and into the hallway (before going back to bathroom) with all that hardware and NOBODY notices.
“All that hardware” is puzzling, considering that the news article said he had a .22 concealed under his shirt.
IMHO, it is pretty easy to see how nobody noticed. According to the article, when someone did see him come out of the restroom with the gun, they reported it to the school authorities, but he had gone back into the restroom and shot himself.
There was not a lot of stuff – just the .22 according to the report linked above. Even if he had had more, you’ve not been in a school in quite a while of you don’t know how easy it is to miss seeing everything that is going on as the students flood into the school in the morning, or between classes.
Maybe he had a sudden attack of humanity. Whatever got him, glad it did before he had a chance to share his misery.
He was a messed up 13-year-old kid. They are not rational.

I’m saddened his life is lost. I am. But … I’m grateful that he chose to take his own life instead of the lives of how many innocent young peers?

The key is that ‘I will never be forgotten. I’ll be a stain on American history.’ To an immature mind, notoriety is just as good as fame, especially when you feel like an anonymous mediocrity. The 24-7 news cycle endlessly trumpeting every detail feed this and create monsters.
Guns are always to blame in these situations, but where is the Media Culpability? They GLORIFY these pieces of human filth. Also, where were this kids parents? They hold some responsibility for this. Why weren’t they keeping their firearms secured, I cannot believe this kid had not told someone about his fascination with mass murderers.
In most of these situations, they tell people they they either are going to do it or they want to do it. No one says anything. Oh he’s just a bit confused, he is just talking, he won’t do it. This has got to stop. Stop giving them waht they want, get rid of this score board that CNN has for these tragedies.
I feel sad for this kid and angry all at the same time. That he was that screwed up that he wanted a higher body count makes me sad, but that he was actually going to carry it out angers me more.
He did the right thing and shot himself. But if he hadn’t, the media would have been dancing all over it, put his name on the score board. Let’s see who can beat that.
The media and lack of mental health facilities is the problem, not guns.
I think that if statements like you mentioned from all the “I knew it all along” crowd were admissible as evidence in civil liability lawsuits, people would be a bit more apt to say something when they see something.
It’s all fucked up no matter how you look at it. Where were the kid’s Parents in raising him?
Was it a gun free zone?
This just makes me sad.
But, it also makes me grateful that there was some part of him that was still good, that stopped him from taking others with him.

At 13 a boy knows JACK SHIT about life, nevermind how to deal with it. I blame the OVERLOAD of information, news, violent games, violent tv, violent movies, and the pure VIOLENCE that all the peoples of the world are subjected to on a daily basis, non-stop, in our face. Violence begets violence. The more OVEREXPOSURE to these heinous acts people, and especially, young ,impressionable, VULNERABLE, YOUNG ,IMMATURE, CHILDREN, the more these terrible tragedies will occur. Just too much stimuli. Data Overload. Parental Absence. Parental Obliviance, willfull in many cases. Also, as the world becomes evermore populated, NATURE WILL RESPOND, and it may often be though mental instability and outright aberrant behavior. How many BILLION PEOPLE ….BILLIONS ????? Just check the ebb and flow of the Snow Goose populations, the cause and effect of the crashes of numbers and how it can be compared and contrasted to our own snowballing descenting situation. Just science in the end.
