Dick’s Sporting Goods suspends gun sales
Fortune reports that Dick’s Sporting Goods won’t sell scary-looking black rifles in any of their stores, and they’ve said that they won’t sell long guns to people under the age of 21 years.
“When we saw what happened in Parkland, we were so disturbed and upset,” Stack told the New York Times Tuesday night. “We love these kids and their rallying cry, ‘enough is enough.’ It got to us.
“We’re going to take a stand and step up and tell people our view and, hopefully, bring people along into the conversation,” he added.
Whatever, dude.
They said they’d stop selling scary-looking black rifles after the Newtown tragedy in 2012, so I guess they started selling again when the discussion faded.
A statement posted on the company’s website said that “during this time of national mourning,” it had removed all guns from its store nearest to Newtown and “suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of our stores chainwide.”
That means that in a few months when we’re talking about North Korea or a Veterans’ Day parade, Dick’s will sneak scary-looking black rifles back onto their shelves.
Thanks to Mick for the link.

Dick’s Sporting Goods? Who?
Sorry, but I patronize Bass Pro Shops.
There are so many jokes here.
I walked through the one off skibo road here in the fayette of the nam….didn’t buy anything and haven’t been back since.
Have not been in one since the last time they tried to curry favor with the gun banners after sandy hook as if gun banners were a big segment of the gun buying public. They made their choice as to who they want as customers, we can make the choice as to where we shop.
The last time I was there it looked like a yuppie soccer mom store anyways.
I have bad dreams about Fayette of the Nam
Wow , they were so disturbed and upset over Parkland? Wonder if they EVER got disturbed and upset over the 50+ million kids murdered by abortion? Simple fix..BOYCOTT DICK’S 😉
Whoopdeefukkingdoo
Well. As a corporation, they only have to satisfy their stockholders and I support their freedom to decide what they sell and to whom. I get to decide whether to buy those products.
Seems like I quit buying there after the last time they pulled this. So, it will be easy for me to continue to not do what I have already been not doing.
I don’t mind that they quit selling a product, it is the leftist bullshit that followed that pisses me off.
If you can’t pull those scary black rifles off of your shelves and just not sell them without doing a press release/press conference, you, as a company, are just virtue signalling.
I wonder how a guy named Ed Stack turned out to be such a Dick?
I’m afraid I can’t support any boycott of Dick’s Sporting Goods. I don’t shop there, they’re too damn expensive.
Additionally, Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops are nicer.
Fuck those attention whores!
“Dick’s”.
How appropriate.
Anybody here like Dicks?
I don’t, but we won’t judge you.
Bradley Manning says “I do!”
The bigger “Dicks” the better!!!! YEAH!!!!
I believe they cater mostly to females, gays, x-genders and metrosexuals. I doubt they sell many guns, anyway. I think Gersh Kuntzman shops there, anyway when he still had regular income.
Funny story. Many years ago I turned on my computer, and it loaded up with dozens of pop ups with giant penis’s and such. I corralled the family to assess ownership,(since it wasn’t mine to own…) and my young daughter broke down in tears explaining she was just trying to get to DixSportingGoods.Com but typed in the wrong URL as dicks.com. She apparently freaked out, turned the PC off, and high tailed it. I fixed the ‘puter and explained how to use google rather than type in an addy. Funny now. Like boot camp…
Mhm. Suuuuure 😀
True story. So there was a meme of a Soldier taking a knee and Jesus was there with his hand on the grunt’s shoulder telling him to pull fucking security.
We were at work one fine day and one of the guys googled that pic. Typed “soldier jesus pull fucking security” or something like that into his Army computer.
Up popped a whole page of gay prison porn. Same reaction, we all freaked out. Thought the G6 dudes were going to pay us a personal visit via black helicopter insertion. Lesson learned…
I do wish you guys would occasionally post a spew alert!
Just once….. or twice….
They are all penalized for not posting a War Story Alert:
ok….so now I’m going to try that. Great story
That was back in the early days of the interwebs (she’s an RN now), back when they would/could reset your home page and such. Annoying for the most part. I s’pose that particular website is still there. Let us know… Actually, I was more relieved that it was her and not her older brother…
CWORet
(Thank you, thank you very much).
Didn’t you just love those early days when the p0rn folks had found out how to provide virtually infinite pop-ups of their really nasty stuff based on innocent searches? By your kids?
me neither.
Note to self: avoid buying any stock in Dick’s Sporting Goods.
To echo above – I don’t shop there anyway, so meh.
I did make a decision to avoid CheaperThanDirt after they pulled something similarly stupid in the past. I’m sure they haven’t noticed.
But Academy Sports and Outdoors has been good to me.
Yeah, Cheaper Than Dirt quit selling scary-looking black rifles while they jacked up ammunition magazine prices 300% – price gouging during a high demand period.
got a SCREAMING deal on AR mags at primary arms.com on black friday… if you sign up, they send some cool flash sales as well.
I can still buy my Black Scary Guns and ammo at Rural King
Amen!
Screw them. They have ruined the sporting goods industry. Here in Indiana, we had a great place called Galyan’s, very nice firearm selection, excellent high end camping equipment, etc. I got back from Afghanistan and these jerks had moved into all of them. I can find a great selection of Under Armour and Nike clothes elsewhere, like the internet.
I’m with ya Easy! I loved Galyans, but dicks, in addition to stupid shit like this, puts way too much focus on team sports, and outdoor sports are just an afterthought.. haven’t shopped there since the takeover.
Dick’s is a sibling firm to Field and Stream. The product mix at each reflects each side of competitive/outdoor split.
I didn’t know that! Thanks. I’ll add Field&Stream to my nogo list.
Dick’s is to guns what Victoria’s secret is to maternity clothes.
ROFLMAO… I’d probably agrue that a bit, but it might show my preferences…. so NM.. hehe
Yeah, they have signage at the front door asking you to check your weapon in. I don’t have any interest in giving them money.
That’s funny. Every Cabelas I’ve been to just assumes you’re carrying and trusts you not to be an asshole about it.
Ditto with Bass Pro Shops, you never hear about any of theirs or a Cabela’s outlet getting robbed.
Actually, our local Cabelas was robbed.. of course, they crashed a vehicle through the wall in the middle of the night…
The local Cabelas asks you to check weapons that are combined in for service or trade. CCW is welcome if it stays holstered.
I can respect asking for repair/trade to be checked and cleared. I have lost count of how many times folks show up on a firing line I supervise with rounds in their range-required “unloaded and cased” firearms.
“I forgot” “Didn’t think that applied to hunting/ready/truck/my weapons..” “oops” and my all-time favorite:
“It’s -not- loaded! Do you think I am..” BANG!
“Think you are stupid? Yes, actually. Since you ask, I do.”
So after years of gun folks being our own worst advertisements, I can respect firms that really want to avoid “brown britches” moments for their customers, and ask that visible weapons be either kept holstered or checked cleared if handling is part of the visit.
I just wish more would embrace the concept of “clearing barrels” or other bullet catchers for the inspection phase.
I love the concept of a clearing barrel. And they are really not that complex. An old (and cleaned) propane tank filled with sand, with a pipe welded to it.
I am curious, though. What did Stupid say after your frank admission, and the “BANG!”? I would hope “Well, I guess I am.”
Unfortunately, I expect that he next traveled to visit that river in Egypt, “de Nile”.
“Huh, how’d that get in there?”
You loaded it, dickhead.
I have never taken a gun to or from a gun shop that wasn’t in either a hard case, gunrug, or packing box. Each weapon was/is immediately cleared and locked open (if possible) upon opening said container.
Then again, I always adhere to safety rules, recognize my own fallibility, and actively try not to be a dipshit.
As of yesterday, the Dicks in Salem NH was still selling scary black rifles including ones with *gasp* threaded barrels. So maybe this is they’ll just stop stocking them after they sell their existing stock.
Report that store immediately!
Or buy the inventory and re-sell it in the mall parking lot.
Oh you caught that little detail, eh? Same as before.
And since supplies are now limited, up up and away with price perhaps?
Dicks……
…it’s not just our name, it’s what we do!
While that’s good to know, I still won’t shop there. I prefer KTP.
Yes, Dick’s stopped selling scary black rifles in its stores after Sandy Hook but it continued selling them through one of its corporate subsidiaries, Field and Stream. That’s what it is ending now. I hate Dick’s. Always have. Who sells at MSRP? Dick’s, that’s who. And their advertised sales are some percentage off MSRP, which means you can get many of the same items at a Dick’s sale for the price that other places normally sell their stuff for.
So their name is a “truth in advertising” about what they do to their customers?
Dick’s Sporting Goods owns (or at least manages) Field and Stream stores as well.
I’ve spent thousands in both stores on clothing, rifles, optics, ammunition, and accessories. They won’t get another dime from me.
We had a F&S aroud here for a while. They brought in -pallets- of .22s for their grand opening, when it was still rather hard to get. Prices for the .22s were not “charitable”, but also nowhere near some of the “bend over” prices of some local gunshops.
Nearly all of my weapon purchases have been through a local mom & pop. He didn’t have all that I wanted but was able to get it for me. Yes, I paid more than I would have had I gone through the mega-store-whatever, but he’s been my guy for years. We also attend the same church. They are honest, hard working people.
Way to shoot yourselves in the foot, Dick’s
Dick’s here in the PRoMA has always sucked, over priced piss poor selections.
I try and support smaller local stores because that tends to benefit my community far more than supporting a Dick’s type store. Local stores are far more generous when it comes to supporting local youth programs and keeping up with a presence at tournaments and such. They benefit and our programs benefit. Dick’s has no interest in that sort of activity from what I can see.
Consequently, I patronize the local shops for whatever I’m buying, whether sports related or firearm related.
Veritas, That is Democratic People’s Republic of Massachusetts. You know you are in a shit-hole dictatorship when it has Democratic in fromt of it. Just ask or Commissar, Kerry Healey.
Kittery Trading Post does quite a bit of business.
Sadly, it’s mostly flatlanders/Massholes, so KTP jacks the prices sky high, knowing full well they’ll get it.
Yes, but you can usually negotiate a better price if you actually talk to an assistant manager. I have gotten some good deals in KTP.
I’ve never been to one
BHWHAHAHAHA !!!!!!!
I buy all my guns at local shops, you get a better price and service. But most of the Dick’s in the DPRM only sell Elmer Guns anyway.
It appears that nobody really cares what Dick does because Dick’s is….lacking, perhaps?
Okay, then!
Well, we care to the extent that the store and its subsidiaries are appeasing the gun grabbers and haters. Beyond that, not so much.
But they still sell crossbows and bats!!
Zombie sale at Halloween?
#BoomStick
I have purchased two items from them in the past. I too find them way over priced, and their outdoor product selection is slim.
I like my local Cabela’s or Sportsman’s Warehouse much better.
My old gun shop from my youth shut down a decade or two ago. The other one is too far North for me to shop at.
I remain jealous that GSM Denise Williams stole your line!
My coffee doesn’t seem to be working this morning, I’m lost.
In another thread, you wrote about a guy having to be a twin of himself b/c he has too much stupid for one person. Gold Star Mom Denise Williams read and loved your comment and said she was stealing it, wondering whether it was theft if she said she was taking it.
Oh Cool!
She can have whatever she wants. I stole it from my Dad.
Ouch….
Like how my son gets his tools?
To be honest, he used it on a clerk at the Hardware Store in my hometown. I about pissed my pants from laughing so hard.
Sweet!
It isn’t that they quit selling the products, they have gone full potato and called for the banning of a firearm and magazines.
But not a ban before they finish selling existing stock, right?
Truth
Hope they like losing business!
I go to Academy when in Texas, great selection and prices, and many, many scary rifles too…Dicks just put a store near the Academy I frequent…I don’t see how Dicks can compete with their boutique pricey bullshit, plus now this sudden PR stunt. And, does Dicks really think that a whole lotta Gersch Kuntzman’s are going to start buying their training bras there out of gratitude?
I fired them the last time they pulled this stupidity.
Dick’s stops selling AR’s, CAL Ranch puts theirs on sale.
https://www.calranch.com/store-ad
Capitalism and the 2d Amendment; two great things that go great together. 🙂
And everyone said AMEN
Just buy the parts, and build your own… of course, it helps if you have family that own a machine shop… but primary arms.com, ghost rifle .com, and others have great deals…
The the Board of Directors collectively threw their balls on the conference table, had them collected and disposed of properly. Into their secretary’s purse I’m sure.
My wife put her own Shotgun on Layaway yesterday at Sportsman’s Warehouse.
While we were there, they sold 2 MSR’s.
Screw you Dick’s.
War Story Alert: A few years back at a Bass Masters Championship Exhibition at the Pittsburgh Convention Center Dicks had their display. I actually met Dick. So from then on no one could say, I didn’t know Dick”.
I bought my XDE .009 single stack at Gun World down in Deerfield Beach as I mentioned in a previous post last year. Very nice family owned business. Finally got there this past monday after almost 2 months of the upper respitory infection and my SIBO acting up since I had it back in 2014. Had 2 wait 40 minutes to shoot and noticed a lot of empty rifle racks. While on the subject of these stores giving in to the emotionaly hysterical left, has anyone heard of Applebees posting a no firearms in the establishment? My friend from up north was down in I think Naples, Fl. and told me that there was a sign on the door stating the above I just mentioned. Any truth to this?? going to the March 17th Palm Beach County Gun show to check it out.
Ok, so will someone tell me what this “gun show loophole” is? Dicks wussy mea culpa references it again and I can’t figure out what they’re talking about.
It’s the assertion that you can just walk into a gun show and buy anything you want, no questions asked.
Cause that’s how gun shows work, right?
In some states, yes. In others, no. Depends on the state, depends on whether the seller is a dealer or a private individual.
That’s how I got my Mark VII photon torpedo launcher and the 6X-vT phaser.
“Gun show loophole” is NewSpeak for the shocking – SHOCKING! – realization that in some states people are allowed to transfer their legally-owned firearms to another person without having to go through a background check.
Basically it would be like automobile dealers complaining that private individuals are allowed to buy and sell cars through Craigslist and calling it the “Craigslist Loophole.”
The so-called “loophole” only applies if the person selling you the firearm is not in the business of selling firearms, but most sellers at gun shows are in the business. Thus, when they sell you a gun, they have to do a background check. If ATF catches someone at a gun show without an FFL selling multiple NFA covered guns for profit, that person is going to need a real criminal lawer. The purported loophole only applies if the seller and buyer are private parties and the seller is not “in the firearms business.” So, private party A is walking around the gun show with a sign that says “for sale” on an SKS, party B can legally buy it from him without a background check. Also, there are state specific laws that may preclude the sale, especially if A and B are residents of different states. Of course, gangbanger A and gangbanger B don’t give a shit about any of these laws. They do their gun deals in an alley out of the trunk of “dey ride.”
rgr769;, when I go to the gun shows I see people with slung rifles and a for sale flag sticking out of the barrel. I think under Florida law, I as a CWL holder can purchase a handgun from a private seller but I have to fill out the paperwork if I buy from an FFL dealer. Bought a Star 380 and Colt detective Special 2 years ago in mint condition for a hundred bucks apiece. Guy upstairs from me just wanted to get rid of them. I think I could have bought them even if I did not have the CWL.
That’s it? What a commotion over nothing. Thanks for the explanation. I’ve tried to get to a gun show several times but life (my grandson’s sports endeavors) kept getting in the way. I’ll make it soon.
So tired of doublespeak.
“We’re going to take a stand and step up and tell people our view and, hopefully, bring people along into the conversation,” he added.
Just say it fucker. Your “conversation” is gunz er bad and them black rifles are the worst!
Way to sway with the wind dirtbag.
They just opened a new store near me, good thing I have a Sportsmans Warehouse to shop at.
Annually in the US we have 3,536 people die from accidental drownings. That’s 10 per day! So Dicks’s clearly needs to stop selling swimsuits, snorkeling equipment, kayaks, and all related water death paraphernalia.
Something must be done! Action now, before the world’s oceans, lakes, and rivers swallow up more of our most vulnerable, the young.
It’s not the swimsuits; it’s the dihydrogen monoxide. Deadliest stuff, after “fully-semi-automatic assault weapons” (thanks, Gen. Hertling).
Mason;, how about cutting off the anti gun liberals hands and feet since they can be used as Assault weapons.
Kiddie pools are the worst! They must hate kids!
Sounds like a children’s book:
See Dick Cave In to Political Pressure.
See Dick give a mealy-mouthed statement full of politically correct nonsense.
See Dick become a pariah among law abiding gun owners and lose millions of $$.
Don’t be a Dick.
Jane left Dick, didn’t she? And took Spot with her, as I understand it.
And Jane and Spot made a film that I saw on deployment
roflmao! Ex is gonna be here soon demanding a spew alert!
I can see it now…
“Buy your gun at Cabella’s… we’re not Dicks.”
Excellent! You should send that to Cabellas. They’ll get a kick out of it.
In my opinion the three most dangerous things are food, traffic and pharmaceuticals. People are a lot more likely to die from them on a daily basis. Driving a car, eating out or taking a pharmaceutical is playing Russian Roulette. More military personnel died of motor cycle accidents in a year than died in the Iraq War.
What year?
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/10/30/marine.motorcycles/index.html
Somebody left the gate open and lily got out again. Now who’s going to clean up all her shit?
We’re gonna stop selling guns because we’ve been shamed into it, and we hope to drag someone into the conversation, and maybe get enough people to be okay with the decision so we don’t lose a buttload of money, but if we do we’ll quietly go back to selling “assault rifles” again.
That’s takin’ a brave stance.
I went into the local Dick’s several years ago looking for some reloading dies for my 9mm Makarov. When the genius at the counter just insisted that they were the same as a regular 9mm, because, after all, 9mm is 9mm, right? I walked out the door and never returned. Looks like I made the right choice then and will stick to it.
This makes me very glad I’ve completely boycotted DICK’s since their lily-livered snot-spined announcement after Sandy Hook and IDGAF about them, I’ll never spend even a penny at that chain ever again.
Dick’s name fits as a dick.
I could care less what Dick’s decides to sell. I’m more concerned about President Trump saying take guns first worry about due process second.
https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/20-year-old-sues-dicks-walmart-over-new-gun-policies
Didn’t take long for the first lawsuit.
