Attention on Deck! Listen Up!
In the wake of last week’s heinous episode of destruction of human lives, and the howling to “DO SOMETHING” that predictably succeeded it, I spent some time digging up some information.
There are at least eleven (11 federal statues on the books regarding guns and control, including the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. – Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_law_in_the_United_States
Since there are 50 states, there is gun legislation specific to each state which should certainly be sufficient to prevent crimes, shouldn’t it? There is a chart at the bottom of this Wiki link for each state. I don’t know how up to date it is, but the charts do summarize the state laws. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_the_United_States_by_state
In all of this, in the screaming, frantic screaming to DO SOMETHING, the hysterics and fear underlying this squawking are not being addressed. Don’t misunderstand me. Fear generates anger, which generates this scrambling call to ‘DO SOMETHING!’, when there is already plenty of ‘SOMETHING’ done and in place.
This is never addressed by the media because they can milk the fear and agony caused by these events into oblivion, and they know it. They count on it. They should be barred from doing surveys and interviews until the people who commit these crimes are arrested and awaiting trial.
If you will recall the social morons who twittered out Tsarnaev’s mugshot after he was caught, in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing, thousands of teenaged girls couldn’t believe he was one of the Boston Marathon bombers because he was too cute. This was milked to death, as was the search to find him, and the frantic scramble by media mavens to get in the way of law enforcement so that they could get the story. And what happened? Who got blamed for that? The pressure cookers were blamed for the Boston Marathon bombing. Tsarnaev was just a part of the sideshow. Pressure cooker purchases were monitored. Anyone who bought more than one was suspect.
McVeigh and Nichols used a rented truck and farming chemicals and kerosene to build devastating bombs that blew away most of the Murragh Building in Oklahoma City, and killed and/or injured hundreds of people. Once they were caught, truck rental was blamed for a while for that tragedy. And farming chemicals – that was monitored, too.
Not so very long ago, a bunch of disgruntled idiots with a hair up their asses hijacked four passenger planes fully loaded with passengers and fuel, and used them to kill thousands of people in three different locations. Thousands of people. All planes were grounded, because the planes were at fault, weren’t they? (If you can’t detect sarcasm in that, you are dead between the ears.) Yes, and back in the 1990s, a bomb tucked away in a radio buried in a suitcase blew up a Pan Am passenger jet over Scotland, so radios were to blame for that, once that was figured out.
We’ve got the crazy bastards who took guns to Columbine High School and shot their classmates, so the guns were at fault there, not the teenaged hellions who committed those crimes. The nutball who shot up the movie theater in Aurora, CO, killing 12 and wounding 70 others wasn’t responsible because he was crazy, right? No, it wasn’t his fault. It was the guns’ fault that he planned that for weeks, maybe months ahead. Despite warnings by many people, there was never any attempt to stop him before he carried out his threats. The fact that he’s still a whack job is immaterial.
All of these criminals gave out warnings and nothing – not ONE DAMNED THING – was done about it.
In Orlando, FL, the nightclub Pulse became a slaughterhouse because one antisocial shithead coward decided to use it as a place to shoot fish in a barrel. But it was the guns he used that were blamed for that, not the fact that he hated everyone in the world, including himself. And that nutball who shot Congressman Scalise and tried to do the same to others – was he really blamed for it? I don’t think so. The focus was on what kinds of guns he used and where he got them, not so much on his hatred of GOPer politicians. That shooter was a Democrat, you know. He was out to get GOPers, so the guns were to blame for that, too, if the media reports were to be believed. Ditto the whack job at Las Vegas – it was the guns and the bump stocks that were to blame for the injuries and deaths, not the shooter who created panic.
So this latest episode of one freak taking his anger and self-hatred out on everyone around him turns into another circus of blaming the object, a gun, an inanimate object which can’t act without an enabler, instead of blaming the jackass who committed the crime.
I’m going to blame politicians on both sides of the political fence for this, especially those with the biggest mouths and the most pressing need to stand at a microphone in front of a TV camera and threaten the rest of us with a dictatorship, because if we let them get away with it, that’s where we are headed.
Why do they do this? Well, part of it is the attention they get. Part of it is the money that it generates for them – yes, it does – and part of it is because the sooner they can get rid of the one thing they fear most, an American populace that is full of free people who can think for themselves, the happier they will be. They might even say they’re afraid of being assassinated, although I can’t think of even one of those attention-whoring idiots that’s worth the cost of a bullet. It doesn’t matter one whit that we can do quite well without them. They could all just lock their office doors and go home and not one of us would miss them, but they have to have that limelight.
What does matter is this: the US Constitution gives us certain inalienable rights and one of those is to have the means of defending ourselves against tyrants. And everyone of those stumpsucking jerks in Congress is a potential tyrant. Think about that for a second.
Not one of them has blamed the shooter in this most recent. If they did that – blame the human – they’d have to admit they are failures and all the legislation passed on gun control has been pure, unadulterated failure because no one enforces it. Those recent reports that NICS missed posting 1100 people in the ‘no guns’ list are evidence of that. So they blame the gun, the inanimate object and the bump stock, also inanimate, which the shooter used, instead of blaming the live human scumbag who did the damage.
Well, we are not a nation of sheep, no matter what the Congress Critters think. We have a right to demand that they enforce the laws already in place and stop wasting our tax money on legislating more of this nonsense until they ensure that enforcement of existing laws happens.
If they are not going to do what they were hired to do – and remember, it’s supposed to be a temp job, not permanent – then fire their asses and start over from scratch.
They work for US. We need to let them know that by firing them if they don’t perform.
They all need to be reminded that this country belongs to US, not to them. They just work here.

WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING and IMHO it’s to do nationwide Gun Law Reform. YES, EVERY City, State, County or whatever else needs to change their Gun Laws or Ordinances to that of Kennessaw GA, just look at how their Violent Crime Rate plummeted after that took effect, next ought to be A 100% COMPLETE AND TOTAL BAN on the establishment of Gun Free Zones and abolishing existing ones. Let’s be honest, how many of the past mass shootings WEREN’T carried out in a Gun Free Zone?
Thanks, Ex-PH2. Expressed well as usual. This power flaunting and abusing scut in DC must be flushed if we are to still have an America. This is what we get when we debase our public schools. Americans must start acting as responsible citizens. Christ-it’s all been stated here before. Keep fighting and Semper Fidelis.
I was a little pissed off when I wrote that, borderbill… pissed off and hungry, because my pizza hadn’t fully cooked just yet.
Everyone, EVERYONE, whether a Christian, atheist, agnostic, or just a.h. should be posting EVERYWHERE, to demand Bible study and prayer are put back in school and allowed, also in the workplace….you never heard of ANY of this crap in the 50’s, where we had occasional prayer, pledge of allegiance…we all respected each other, if we didn’t we just went out behind the school and had a fight, mostly a wrestling match! but NO SHOOTING, we all had gun racks in our trucks and went hunting regularly, but NOT people, because we knew we answered to a higher power..the Bible says DO NOT MURDER! We all know in our hearts that this is NOT the end, there is life after life, but where you spend it is the important thing, Peace, Paradise, Beauty, Love, friendship…..or eternal torture in hell designed for the devil and his angels….your choice, but at least let the kids know so they can make THEIR CHOICE! imho
Wonder how many of the deluded school kids would march in support of the death penalty for the school shooters ?
I’d guess you could count the number of those kids on one hand, and not get to five. Meanwhile, the shooter has just about disappeared from view and discussion, as has local LEO and the FBI. It’s all about the guns.
Your stomach is much stronger than mine. Aside from a few articles on the net and what I have read here, I have watched not a minute of TV news/talk and not a second of radio news/talk. I brutalized too many TVs over the years. And the flat screens suck. You get nowhere need the thrill of the old tubes.
Because the teachers tell them they are against the death penalty and that it is the gun’s fault.
Speaking of perma-office, this strongly appears to be a 20th/21st century phenomenon. In the Senate, of the top 20 record holders for the longest terms, only one served in the 19th century. And the funny thing about that is that he served most of his 37 years during the 20th century. The other 19? Some are still in the Senate, two started their ‘careers before WWII, and the rest started during or after WW II. I don’t even want to look at the House records. The range for the top 20, by the way, is 51.5 years down to 36.
Kinda feel like I have the place all to myself right now. This could be fun.
I’m just skatin’ around from thread to thread, dropping comments hither and yon. It’s like I misread my invitation and showed up a day early. Where the hell is everyone? Anyone? I needs a ping.
howdy.
Just chillin here – snowboard jumping thing just got the US a second silver medal. Yeah, it’s a new thing and involved a snow covered scaffold ten stories high.
Unfortunately, the Olympics have been difficult to watch this year. I am just too stubborn to let “them” run me off. When they start sharing more than I want to know about the athletes, I find some obscure event to watch.
Back on topic. Thought this was about making schools safe. Some of the children are even asking for that. So, let’s get busy making them safe.
Here’s a clue: What may or may not be in my closet is irrelevant. Securing the schools is relevant. Secure schools necessitate controllng who gets into schools and controlling the behavior of those inside the school.
That is all.
Oh. One more thing. Assault weapons are limited to things used to commit assault. Could be anything. If it’s used to assault someone, it is an assault weapon even if it usually isn’t. Like rocks, chef’s knives, and ball bats. And automobiles.
Okay, I’ve had enough of Mr. Lonely Hearts. I’ll go talk to my wife and, no, I’m not turning off the lights.
Don’t worry, Air Cav. Still luvya. People must be at supper right now.
If he’d only waited a few more minutes…
Great as usual, Ex. I would add Devin Patrick Kelley, who opened fire in the Sutherland Springs First Baptist Church on Nov. 5. He shed light on the dismal record of the Military notifying FBI’s NCIC of felons receiving DDs and BCDs. He fled the scene after a good guy with a gun showed up, and ultimately offed himself.

I can’t wait to vote for the other guy or write in Ronald Reagan.
Oh, but your senator is a DICK…
And that fucker is going to make me resist…all the way to Georgia.
CT has the ‘leadership’ it deserves.
Bullseye, Ex-PH2.
Thank you, Old Soldier!
How about we demand the Government actually prosecute those who lied in completing the federal form to purchase a firearm and got flagged during the background check. There is a penalty under the law so apply/enforce an existing law.
Bingo!
We already have plenty of laws on the books.
Why aren’t they being enforced?????
I’ve said this previously, but here goes again, the wife worked at a big box store, decorated in blue. She worked sporting goods, which entailed selling firearms. She handled at least 15-20 denials from NICS, people forbidden from buying/possessing firearms and people attempting straw purchases, which she denied. Her boss and another co-worker had similar numbers for the 7 years she worked there.
For the attempts by prohibited people and straw purchase attempts, the 3 of them got exactly 0 subpoenas to testify against someone violating the laws regarding those offenses.
So, enforce the law!!!
Enforce the laws on straw purchases ruthlessly. Put a few grandmothers and baby mamas of gangbangers away for a long time and listen to the bleeding hearts squeal.
Any solution will have multiple aspects. Most ‘Protection’ strategies start with the physical security of the potential victim and work their way out in layers, to include identifying and neutralizing potential threats. So, the physical security of schools is the first step. Simple things like CAC activated, hardened doors, compartmented halls, security gates, etc. would make it significantly harder for this to happen. Most hospitals have similar measures now. Armed security should be part of this, but arming teachers is not a good idea. You can’t have two jobs if one of them involves deadly force. It will also lead to confusion and blue on blue attacks- teachers shooting kids or cops or the other way around. A handgun is the wrong weapon. Security has to be trained, uniformed, armed with long guns, wearing body armor, and dedicated to security. Also, remember that many school shootings are ‘insider threats’, meaning that it could actually be the armed teacher or janitor doing the shooting. So, the decision to arm anyone has to be based in part on training and annual background checks. Finally, the outer rings should involve identifying potential threats. The cops, FBI, and yes, even the students themselves all had the opportunity to stop this before it happened. The foster parents were negligent, as were just about everyone that knew the kid personally and knew that he was dangerous. By he way, Why were we looking at fertilizer and pressure cooker sales? Because al Qaeda published instructions on how to use those materials to build bombs. This brings us to Common Sense Gun Laws. What would they look like? For starters, we have to ensure that vetted derogatory information on both criminal and mental health issues make their way into e system. We also have to take a serious look at who can buy a gun and how we regulate sales. The first part of the 2nd Amendment is “A well regulated militia”. This varies by state, but many currently take no steps to ensure that gun owners can safely use their guns or properly store them. I propose… Read more »
Yes, but Reddevil, the majority of guns used in crimes are not purchased. They are stolen. In Chicago, they’re stolen out of shipping crates in freight cars parked in railyards on Chicago’s south side. They aren’t straw purchasers, they are stolen.
How would you propose to tax or regulate gangbangers in Detroit or Chicago?
That’s not really true:
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013/01/29/us/where-50000-guns-in-chicago-came-from.html
Guns in Chicago and New York come from quasi-legal purchases outside the gun free zone.
That said, a manufacturer that loses a shipment of guns should be held liable for those guns.
We have to stop the flow of more guns into the wrong hands.
We are a gun owning nation. I actively encourage responsible citizens to own and regularly train with guns for self defense.
However, we are awash in guns, most of them in the hands of irresponsible citizens and criminals. As those people commit crimes, those guns will be taken off the streets.
false. On its face. Criminals do not obey the law and do not have to because the government you apparently believe is competent allows a thriving black market to operate.
In fact, firearms are both cheaper and easier to acquire on the black market…the question is why.
That part is easy. People who want “common sense” stuff sick the hypercompetent agents of the government on the law abiding to ensure they follow the “common sense” laws protecting no one while ignoring the camel in the tent.
No, the answer is not more laws, more cops, more GS 9 level morons “reviewing” background checks or even less firearms.
The answer is to regain the sanity that allows us to say that the perpetrator of the crime is solely accountable for the act. Stop with the completely false believe that it is society’s fault and we can not blame the perp, who after all, is a victim too.
It is cowardly BS and we all know it.
You are either misinformed or deliberately ignoring the facts.
First, please show me your data that firearms are cheaper and easier to buy on the black market.
Second, what you are calling a black market is currently perfectly legal, and everyone knows it. It is really what is called a ‘gray’ market, meaning that while it is technically legal, we know it supports illegal activity.
Legal buyers buy from a licensed dealer, then buy/trade to a private citizen, and so on. In most states, only the original purchase requires a background check. Of course, no responsible gun owner would do this, yet it happens every day in this country.
Everyone blames the shooter, and few view him as a victim. However, there is a clear line between an insane kid shooting up a school and a criminal in Chicago killing a kid in a drive-by or drug deal gone bad.
However, neither person should have access to a gun. Everyone that knew the Florida shooter also knew he was dangerous. Those that lived with him allowed him to buy and access a firearm. That is a problem.
Your source is utterly untrustworthy. Well for a leftist such as you it might be, not to normal people. That article is made up fictional bullshit. Criminals don’t as a rule buy guns or anything else. They steal. That is what criminals do.
Really? Show me the reputable source that supports your assertion.
Criminals do many things besides steal. Sometimes they are meticulous about obeying certain laws that would expose their activity.
FBI Unified Crime Reports for but one. Latest one is from 2016. They run a year behind because of the sheer size of the report. Guns used in homicides category shows vast majority of recovered weapons were stolen. Was that in your faggot ass libtard New York propaganda paper? Bet not. Keep spouting lefty.
Faggot ass libtard propaganda? You are revealing a lot of hangups in that one sentence, Steve. I’d watch that.
Either way, disagreeing with you on guns doesn’t make me a lefty.
Also, it seems to me that a criminal who uses a gun in a homicide might lie about how they got it. I also wonder if the original owner of a gun used in a murder might lie about selling it, telling the FBI instead that it was stolen.
Plus, how was it stolen? Shouldn’t it be properly secured or in the hands of it’s highly trained owner?
No, that doesn’t. Your talking points straight out of leftyland and citing a known leftist propaganda rag like you did tell us a lot though. I noticed you didn’t mention a single actual effective measure that could both stop or minimize such a school shooting, without fucking over peoples rights too. And from the comments, I am apparently not the only dude to notice it.
St ve, please use your words, and keep them civil.
You didn’t read my post, and you are being reactionary.
Unlike you, I am not concerned with the opinions of others- rather, I prefer to deal in facts. If you aren’t prepared to do the same maybe you should excuse yourself from the discussion.
Bullshit, reddevil. I posted an article from the Chicago Tribune a few weeks ago specifically stating that over 300 guns were stolen out of one box car parked in those railyards. They were all being shipped FROM the Ruger factory to various dealers.
Don’t you DARE tell me it’s a fake story. It’s been going on down there for over a decade!
The NYT is notorious for stories that are full of utter bullshit and incorrect information. You fell for it, too.
Shame on you!
Such language from a lady!!!
A single anecdote does not a trend (or a causal relationship) make.
If you disagree with the NYT please demonstrate how and why they are wrong. I am disinclined to believe you based on a single incited report from another Lamestream media outlet. Fair is fair
>uncitted<
I'm typing on an iPad mini…
First of all, the Chicago Tribune is NOT a conservative publication. It is on the LIBERAL side of the newspaper fence.
And I don’t give a flying fart in space whether you believe me or not, the article I posted some time ago was only ONE of several on that subject.
You are perpetuating the nonsensical hogwash that that people in Indiana buy guns in mass quantities to give to their gangbanger friends in Chicago’s bad neighborhoods, based on a libidiot reporter’s wet dream article.
Here’s the link, stupid.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-gun-theft-cargo-train-20171003-story.html
Here’s a quote from the article: “Last year (2016), a Chicago man was charged with selling 23 guns stolen from a Chicago train yard to an undercover informant, including six high-powered Smith & Wesson rifles. A 2014 rail car theft of 13 military-style semi-automatic rifles remains unsolved, records show.”
I can find other earlier articles relaying the same information. This goes back more than a decade. It is NOT something new. Got that?
Straw purchases cannot remotely match the volume of weapons stolen by thieves from freight cars and sold to criminals.
You’re wrong. I’m right.
Blow it out your barracks bag, Dorkwad.
PH, here’s where you are wrong:
You can’t arbitrarily deem my source illegitimate and declare yours an authority.
However, I read the article you posted- in fact I’ve read it several times every time this debate comes up. The article accounts for about 150 guns that were stolen in three incidents going back to 2014. That in no way accounts for all of the illegal guns in Chicago, and it has absolutely nothing to do with guns in other high crime areas.
Regardless, doesn’t it make you angry that Ruger and other gun manufacturers have such poor security on their shipments?
Finally, the train robbery is an anecdote- you cannot logically assume based on this story that all guns in chicago were stolen
Not sure why you are so angry at me. I’ve been very calm and reasonable, and despite all of the personal attacks (dorkwad? Really? Is this 1984?), I’ve responded with logic.
I’m interested in a debate, not emotion.
YOU ate the daisies your CSM had you picking from the PT field, didn’t you?
Wrong again, reddevil. Those incidents go back to 2009 and earlier. You did NOT read that article at all. And yes, your source is a suspect source because it is at least as politically biased as the Trib, maybe worse. YOUR source says the illegal guns come from straw purchases, as a flat statement. That is incorrect, as MY source clearly indicates.
PH, very read that story many times- it is a well worn artifact of the gun lobby. Maybe you should read it a bit closer.
Rail yard thefts go back many years, but the article only addresses three gun thefts, for a total of about 150 guns, going back to 2014. This doesn’t account for all of the guns on the streets in Chicago, not to mention the entire nation.
That said, are you advocating for tougher restrictions on how manufacturers ship guns? I’m on board!
Didja miss me? Sorry, I was busy enabling those defending freedom today.
Well written, grammatically correct horse excrement. If a 21 year old is too immature, we should what – raise minimum voting and enlistment age to 25? 30? Let the government, which can’t even run any current system, approve private property transactions? No-knock verification checks to be sure a gun isn’t out of its safe loaded, where it might be useful?(Please stop kicking my door in while I dial this combination…you know it would get to that.) Leftist drivel.
You are setting up straw man arguments that I never proposed.
You don’t see the inconsistency in the various age requirements for driving, drinking, voting, and gun ownership, all of which should be based on maturity and judgement?
I don’t care if your gun is out of the safe as long as you have control of it and can demonstrate you have taken prudent measures to ensure it isn’t stolen or accessed by someone who shouldn’t be trusted with it.
Now you want to throw driving into the mix? 25 suit you? Try floating THAT one sometime… and your other questions show a touching faith in government. How many times have you heard “well, that’s not what the law was supposed to do – but officials are interpreting it diffently?” Try looking up civil asset forfeiture as a start.
I don’t really want to get into driving, but many cities restrict the driving of those under 21, to include curfews and the number and age of other people in the car.
Rental companies generally won’t rent to people under 25 because they know that statistically they are more dangerous behind the wheel.
I have no faith in government. I have even less faith in untold numbers of irresponsible gun owners.
“…many cities restrict the driving of those under 21…”
Really? Cite a half dozen or so. A couple of hundred would more nearly fit your description of “many,” though. A link to some charts would do nicely.
Also, explaining just how a city would restrict something controlled by the state might be an interesting discussion.
Okay, your a gun grabber.
There is —No Way In Hell— anyone with half a wit is going to willingly list themselves in a “Federal Registry of Firearm Owners”.
That is what you are trying to backdoor into existence.
They might not. But anyone buying a new gun would be required to enter a state registry.
REGISTRY is the first step to confiscation, see Nazi Germany and STOP eating the daisies!
My local FFL doesn’t even record serial numbers on private consignment sales.
Not required to either.
And, you don’t think this is a problem?
Where I live, teachers are armed. Quietly. No one talks about it, but most people know. People will find a way around BS “common sense” gun laws.
I disagree. If the law changed to require a background check and documentation of every gun sale even between private individuals, would you sell or buy a gun without following the law if there was an annual requirement for a safety inspection?
The overwhelming majority of current gun owners follow the law now. Most would continue to do so simply because that is who they are.
However, some would not. Would guess that many, perhaps most, would simply ignore the new requirements because their weapons never have and never will contribute to the problem.
That didn’t come out quite right. The actual numbers would be a guestimate in any case. Place “some,” “many,” or “most” in there as you wish because conjecture is worth about as much as you pay for it.
Will never happen. There is existing law, that states the Federal Government cannot require us to do its bidding without compensation. What you suggest regarding private gun sales would make anyone who sells one to become an unpaid agent of the Federal Government. Several states, like NC, already require an individual to get a background check run at the county sherriff’s which is then given to the seller when that person buys a gun though. And keep in mind all this crap when the next socialist democrat criminal like Obama comes into power. Weaponizing the various agencies of the Federal Government like IRS, ATF, etc, is a socialist democrat specialty. It WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.
That is tortured legal reasoning.
By obtaining a license you are agreeing to act in a certain manner within the bounds of that license. Look around you- medical professionals, contractors, real estate agents, even drivers, etc., are licensed because they have demonstrated the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform within guidelines established by the state. Failure to do so results in fines or revocation of the license.
Many states already do this. Illinois requires a FOID card, as an example.
Or another way to look at it, those are usage taxes.
Name another Constitutional Right that has a usage tax for the individual?
Dang – should would like, sometimes, for the bloviating lefties to be taxed on their lies. Wouldn’t that be fun?
Next up, litmus tests, licenses, and permits to cross state lines, be secure in your persons, houses, papers and effects, and the right to a trial.
I don’t want to live in a world where justice is dispensed at the bottom of a muddy hole.
Slippery slope arguments don’t really work well here when we are so far down the slippery slope of unregulated guns in the hands of criminals.
I agree 100% that there are too many “unregulated guns in the hands of criminals”.
What we should totally do is stop all domestic spending ASAP, no subs, welfare, infrastructure, etc until we get to the bottom of this!
I propose we spend those monies to invent a magic wand so that we can either, a) make bad people turn good, or b) create a law that will only effect criminal possession of guns.
YES WE CAN!
It is simply a sales tax.
The Gun Control Act requires that anyone engaged in the business of dealing in firearms have an FFL- this is punishable by a $250,000 fine and/or five years in prison. The stated reason for this law is to ‘help keep firearms out
of the hands of prohibited persons by running background checks on potential firearms
purchasers, ensure that crime guns can be traced back to their first retail purchaser by
keeping records of transactions, and facilitate safe storage of firearms by providing child
safety locks with every transferred handgun and having secure gun storage or safety locks
available any place where they sell firearms’
In addition, ‘all persons who transfer firearms, regardless of whether they are engaged in the business of dealing in firearms, must ensure that any transfers are in compliance with federal, state and
local laws’
In other words, people that ‘repetitively buy and
sell firearms with the principal motive of making a profit ‘should have an FFL, and all sales should be regulated.
All of this is here:
https://www.atf.gov/file/100871/download
Unfortunately, there are no teeth to the law because there is no way to determine when and if private persons are selling guns because we are depending on self reporting of this income. Since it is mainly a cash business no one reports it.
I have a right to own property. Most property sales are taxed.
Interesting that you propose that your rights come without responsibility.
Referring to the illegal mandate you JUST suggested that a private individual be forced to conduct a background check with no resources to do so. It is black letter law in several larger scale cases. Keep trying though. Logic not required for leftards.
Interesting. That is already a requirement in many states. Sheriffs offices in those states have to conduct the checks.
It is common in many business areas- it is called reasonable effort. Existing laws make it illegal for you to sell a gun to someone that is underage, insane, or a criminal. How do you know this if you don’t do a check?
I forgot to mention that the insta check system is provided to licensed FFL dealers free of charge, and has nothing to do with your argument.
So, then it could be provided to private sellers free of charge as well. Great! We just about have this solved.
So all some stalker or other somebody with ill intent need do is request a background check on someone they wish to harm and there it is – everything they need to fine tune whatever it is they are planning.
Wonderful. Great way to create even more crap for law abiding citizens to contend with.
Yeah, you sound like the lefties who continue to offer solutions which only create more problems. Sounds kinda intentional.
interesting scenario.
One solution would be requiring the checks to be made by the local sheriff.
However, Criminal background checks are ubiquitous today. Some employers are required to do them by law- child care providers, for example.
Back to your scenario: In order to run a background check you need the date of birth and social security number of the subject. If the stalker has that info there is nothing he can learn in a background check that he doesn’t already know.
As to your question, I would not comply. Nor would I allow cops on my property to do such a bullshit inspection absent a warrant.
Your solution to gun violence is to add another bureaucracy to the multitude of layers we already have? Who performs this “safety inspection”? Who hires them? Would you trust someone hired by Rahm Emanuel’s administration, as an example? Andrew Cuomo? Moonbeam Brown?
I am proposing that gun owners demonstrate that they still possess the gun and own a proper safe, which could be done by presenting a receipt at the time of purchase. I don’t necessarily think a home inspection is necessary. But, if you think that’s the way to go, fine.
I don’t think there is much beuracracy required at all., it could actually be a licensed private entity- we do it all the time in other areas. Most lenders won’t give you a mortgage without a termite inspection. Many states require vehicle safety inspections. These are all done by authorized businesses.
If you raise the age to 25, then what about military members who are 18 to 21 and want to purchase a rifle or handgun? Are you going to tell them that they are old enough to die for their country and can operate and maintain multimillion dollar pieces of equipment, but we aren’t going to trust you enough to own a firearm because your brain hasn’t fully developed? We might as well push the age limit up on just about everything then, golly gee!! Can’t bring anyone in under the age of 25, because they can’t be trusted with weapons!!!
Well, in that military members are undthe r the control of officers that are responsible for their actions, I think it’s just fine for 18 year old Troops to have weapons.
And, of course, we already have that sort of blatant hypocrisy because we allow 17 year olds to enlist whoa rent allowed to vote or drink- or drove if they aren’t licensed.
No sense issuing licenses to drive either. Or voting. And certainly they aren’t mature enough to handle food stamps.
Reddevil,
While I’ll state up front that i disagree with almost everything you say in your post, and that most of it would violate the Constitution if implemented, I believe most here have done a good job addressing these points. That being said, I’m going to address one point that noone else has. In your post, you state “The first part of the 2nd Amendment is “A well regulated militia”.” The full text is “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” for those that do not already know. People wanting to infringe on our rights always cite the “well regulated militia” portion, as an argument to take away our rights. The problem is, you, and all other gun banners get this part backwards. It is NOT the well regulated militia that enables / allows the right of the people to keep and bear arms, but rather, while a well regulated militia is necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms is necessary for the EXISTENCE of a well regulated militia.. So the truth of the matter is that people owning guns makes it possible to have a militia, not the other way around. When you look at the 2nd Amendment in this (the correct) way, it becomes obvious that anti-gun arguments are all false, and nothing but a prelude to confiscation and tyranny…
Great post, totally gonna cite this!
Thanks!
Many of the shooters do it for the publicity, but not all. Some don’t really think that far ahead on that. Some suggestions to reduce the popularity of mass shootings:
1. Establish a policy and execute on it, that any mass shooter be killed at the scene, whether or not they attempt to surrender. They don’t survive, period. Fuck their “rights”. They have none.
2. Refuse to release ANY information on the shooter at all. They are not identified to any media outlet, thus there can be no mass multiple days and weeks discussing their motivations, their potty training, etc, anything about them. Thus zero publicity. The average nummie out there doesn’t need to know about that anyway. Talk about the victims all you want, but “unnamed shooter” is all the murderer ever gets. The less the crime is discussed and dissected, the less that some other turd will get some grandiose ideas.
3. Make gun free zones illegal, or pass laws that make any property having one fully legally asnd financially responsible for any and all liability for anyone wounded or killed on that property by an illegal shooter.
1. It seems that quite a few mass shooters are killed or kill themselves at the scene already. Of course, they do have rights, and we can’t just execute them on the scene for lots of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that school shooters are insane, or at least not thinking rationally and a public execution wouldn’t change their mind one bit- in some cases they have already decided to die. They’ll shoot up the school no matter what.
I do think that whoever responds has every right and justification to shoot to kill without attempting to subdue- they have no idea how many shooters there are, for one thing.
That said, we can actually learn a lot from these people if we take them alive- this could help us prevent future incidents.

2. I’m fine with this, but it won’t really matter. School shootings are sort of part of the American Experience now. These kids aren’t doing it for publicity or fame, they are doing it because they are insane and hate the world or have a vendetta against someone in the school.
3. There are undoubtedly thousands of lawsuits against school officials from COlombine, Sandy Hook, and other schools. They are legally liable if they failed to take prudent measures to safeguard the kids. Some of it may even be criminal.
Nope, at least on one level. The theater shooting resulted in an incompetent judge ordering the victims to pay the theater for ruining their business by suing them for being an gun free zone.
You are clearly mis-representing a single case- the plaintiffs lost their case and were required under existing law to pay the court costs of the defendants. Argue against that law if you will, but it really has nothing to do with this.
“In Orlando, FL, the nightclub Pulse became a slaughterhouse because one antisocial shithead coward decided to use it as a place to shoot fish in a barrel. But it was the guns he used that were blamed for that, not the fact that he hated everyone in the world, including himself.“
And the hatred that dickbag had for himself was the fact he was brought up in a culture where they are intolerant of gays to the point where they are thrown from roofs. Add to the fact that he saw Puerto Rican gays as filth because one of his Rican ex lovers supposedly had The HIV and wanted to kill them all as retribution.
To add this up, the Pulse nightclub was caused by; homophobia, Islam, self hatred, racism, revenge, and maybe a broken heart.
It doesn’t sound like the NRA or the 2nd Amendment is anywhere on that list.
Red Devil.
Thank you for coming out of the closet.
Now I know you are a communist gun-grabber.
Good choice of a name.
Burn!
They tried that background check nonsense for private transactions here in CT. I’m sad to report there are still shootings and perps are still caught illegally carrying ‘high capacity’ magazines.
My question is how? Don’t they read the LAW?!?
I see what you were trying to do there. Very close to actual humor.
You clearly don’t understand either communism or the origins of the Red Devils. I am (or was) one, and am not and never have been the other.
Let me ask you this: If you own guns, are you trained in their use and do you properly safeguard them?
Let me ask you this: do you have a MFA in English to wield those lofty words, do you have your deemed dangerous books and pens locked up?
“…beneath the rule of men entirely great, the pen is mightier than the sword …”
Books and pens are powerful, but as we learned in Kindergarten, sticks and stones may break our bones, but words will never harm me.
I think you will agree there is a huge difference between a lunatic with a gun in a school and ideas you disagree with in a book.
And, no, studied engineering at a small, little known college in South Texas where everyone dipped, drank Lone Star, and had a gun rack in their truck. My dorm roommate had an AR-15 in the closet and a .357 in his bedside table.
Allow me to retort, “…unless you have a goddamn sword you ain’t doing no penning…”
I respect your passion and attempt at pragmatism, hell, even your logic.
Allow me to be blunt here, there’s only been one side that’s made concessions since 1934. Time and time and time again the Government, with the consent of the unimpassioned, aided by the well-intentioned who were duped by the nefarious, has slowly and assuredly chipped and twisted that Parchment until it’s sepia is nearly unlegible.
When. Will. It. Stop.
It will stop when they are made to stop. By force, apparently. Facts, simple logic, and telling the truth have had no impact upon them.
It should come as no great shock that their relentless drive for the past 100 years has resulted in them attaining most of their goals.
That wouldn’t be in Kingsville, would it?
Darn good college there.
A&I ’till I die!
There is only one way to get guns out of the hands of criminals, by suspending the 4th amendment and using an army to enter homes and stop citizens on the street to conduct searches and seizures of guns and ammo. No arrests will be made, even of felons found to be in possession of a gun. Whose with me on this? Yeah, I thought so. I’m not with me on this either.
My challenge to the True Believers of gun confiscation: be the point man in those confiscations.
Who’s/Whose infraction! 15 yards and loss of down.
One word, incrementalism.
It’s so long it counts as two. Of course it’s a piecemeal, incremental approach. It’s called building a record. The Left knows the thousands of Federal and state gun laws mean squat in effect, but they are smart enough to build a public policy record, codified in years of laws over decades of congresses and chief executives, that points the way to the end of the 2nd Amendment, ultimately.
Get Some Ex!! Bravo!
Repeal the 2nd Amendment bit by bit?
Yeah, Prohibition didn’t work either, did it? No, it didn’t, but it did give us Al Capone and organized crime.
I said the solution is to enforce the rules already in place. That is NOT being done. Kick NICS’s bony ass until they squeak.
Or maybe it’s time we started arming every citizen, sane or nuts.
This screaming and weeping and wailing and wallowing in the grief of others by the media is the act of ghouls, not human beings. Some benighted soul penned an article in the Sunday paper ’embrace the troubled students’. It didn’t occur to that clodpole that people like this murderous thug and the Pulse shooter and the slimeball at Las Vegas and the shooter who injured Scalise do NOT want to be embraced, any more than the gangbanger who jumped a fence and shot Hadiyah Pendleton after she came back from singing at the White House wanted to be embraced by anyone other than his fellow gangbangers.
The disconnection from reality is the bottom line here. The Left side of the political fence is awash in cowards and thieves, and they view the rest of us as a threat, not to their safety, but to their seats of power. IF that weren’t so, the media wouldn’t be sitting in their pockets.
That was a fascinating article, PH 2!
I have called and e mailed my Florida State representative
(my state senator resigned after an affair with a lobbyist and the seat is vacant)
I called and e mailed My state senators, Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson
I called and e mailed my state representative, Lois Frankel
I told all of them that I demanded armed guards in our schools and am against any more useless gun laws
They only way we are going to stop school shootings is to have armed guards in body armor whose only job is defense of students
