Good guy with a gun stops Philly driver
According to Fox29, a police officer stopped a driver who had planned on running down pedestrians in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this morning;
Around 7:30 a.m. on Monday, officials responded to Broad and Bigler Streets, where a man driving a black Honda attempted to hit people with his car.
Police say one pedestrian was injured and transported to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
An off-duty officer reportedly gave a verbal warning to the driver before shooting him in the face.
The suspect was transported to Presbyterian Medical Center. Initial reports from police indicated the suspect was pronounced dead. Police now report the suspect remains in extremely critical condition.
From 6ABC;
Another driver had blocked the path of the suspect’s car, and the off-duty detective approached and struggled with him.
During the struggle, the detective shot the man once in the head, and that man was initially pronounced dead. However, medics were able to revive him and he was rushed to the hospital and taken into surgery.
The detective fired more than a dozen shots, police say.
The name of the driver who was shot has not been released. He was driving a black Honda with Maryland plates and held a Virginia driver’s license.

‘An off-duty officer reportedly gave a verbal warning to the driver before shooting him in the face.’
Boom.
Shack.
That phrase made my day. Reminded me of the good old cadence, “A Yellow Bird.”
With a yellow bill ….
he landed on…
my windowsill….
I fed him seed and crumbs of bread…
And then I crushed his
His fookin’ head.
And that concludes this week’s TAH Poetry session. See you all next week.
The moral of
the story is clear:
instead of bread,
hold out for beer!
12 shots at close range, one hit. I wonder where the other 11 rounds went.
Firing into auto glass? Could be anywhere. I remember back in my CA days seeing video of a cop shooting into the front window of a car.
Good tight grouping, but because of how the glass is designed, etc, only one bullet hit the suspect in that case too. The glass did some crazy deflecting.
usually, Whatever angle the round hits the windshield, side windows, the round will exit in the direction that the glass is slanted. I may be wrong so maybe someone could check it out.
https://www.theboxotruth.com/the-buick-o-truth-1-windshields-insideout/ has a report on what happens shooting through windshield glass.
There are also experiments where he shoots through the side window glass and doors.
Graybeard, only 1 hit out of eleven shots? Me thinks he needs more range time??
He was just trying to get a fix on the target with the first 10. That’s all.
I understand, WW, but that is 1 hit:11 shots – while engaged in a struggle with the suspect.
Tends to make a difference when you are mano a mano with a guy. Range time don’t help that much, I ‘spect.
Forgive me!! I whole heartadly agree with you good Sir!
Not a problem.
I made a reading error on TAH one time which left me abjectly apologizing to several of our regulars here and in an abject state of humiliation. I try to be carefuller now. >grin<
I was involved in an officer involved shooting a few years back.
I fired 8 times as the suspect tried to run me over. My first round hit the grill of the truck, second hit the hood, the next five hit the windshield with a decent group right where the drivers head was.
The only round I hit him with was through the A pillar as he missed me and took out my patrol unit.
After the first two, all of my shots were on point and looked like they would have been kill shots- the glass does crazy things.
I’ve also investigated multiple shootings where no one was hit but the windshield looked like Swiss cheese
So let’s hope the officer gets reimbursed for the ammo used.
dude should get a medal.
And a gift certificate for the local shooting range. Like Bobo said… 1 in 12 at close range to me says: “Needs practice”.
Though, I confess, I have never tried to shoot a maniacal killer behind the wheel of a car. So… I will give him the benefit of that doubt.
Still…. range time never hurt nobody.
I’m going to go with a high stress situation.
1 in 12 rounds expended but a face shot no less
range time won’t hurt.
Release the name.
Release the name.
The Whiz Wheel is all lubed up and rarin’ to go!!
Isn’t the Whiz Wheel the clear plastic gadget my radio operator was spinning just before he said “I shack _____” into his PRC-25 handset?
Roger.

Brought back from the PDO/SCRAP Yard for use in TAH Name Scrabble.
Just like the DD314 Scheduled Maintenance Card (dated July 1953) still in use, the Whiz Wheel falls into the category of:
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
Oops. Slight correction.
The DD314 is dated Dec 1953, not July 1953. Momentary brain fart.
Mea Culpa.
5 months at that range is more than close enough…
Do you make your own code pages for insert into the device? Also, you forgot to give me an “affirmative” after the “roger” and before the “over.”

Roger. Affirmative. (will try to comply in future transmissions, Sir./s)
Found it necessary to modify a standard Scrabble scoring sheet to include points for hyphenated and apostrophe contained names.

We had those “PRICK”-25 pounders when I was in the NYANG from 1975-1977.
They were a big improvement on the much heavier PRC-10, the predecessor. In SF, we had to use the AN/GRC-109, a multi-component single side-band AM radio set that included a 35 pound hand-crank generator to attach to a metal folding seat/stand. Needless to say, one guy could not carry all five components. Nobody was keen on packing the generator into his rucksack for the jump, as you had little room for your other gear.
The question is, was the PRC-10 better than the PRC-E6?
I am not familiar with the PRC-E6, unless you are talking about face to face commo to and from the squad leaders or an acting PSG or section chief.
Old joke pulled on a newbie, send him to the NCOs asking for a “PRiCk E6”, sure to get the poor kid smoked.
Dollar to a doughnut says he is/was a mooselimb. It is ironic this went down in “the city of brotherly love.”
Got the popcorn, waiting on the mugshot!
“…gave a verbal warning to the driver before shooting him in the face.”
That’s ‘kick in the gut’ funny right there.
Hey, you, you stop that right now.
Fuck you copper.
BOOM!!
Why don’t I care about lowlife rat fuckers such as this? I know, I must have a personality disorder. Either that or I’m sick and tired of scum.
Amish from Bird-in-Hand whose horsy buggy went out of control and it clattered all the way east on Highway 30 into Philly?
Could happen. It ain’t that far.
Patch says that the cop was off-duty at the time.
“[T]he detective shot the man once in the head, and that man was initially pronounced dead. However, medics were able to revive him….”
Um. Ah. Let me just say that it sometimes doesn’t pay to do your job well. On the other hand, if he stays alive, he’ll have the mental faculty of a celery stalk.
A celery stalk?…Well that’ll be about 26 rungs up the mental faculty ladder from where it was.
so you’re saying he’s “not quite dead yet?”…Sorry, couldn’t resist the reference.
What the hell is wrong with those medics?
Now we have to pay the moongod worshippers medical bills and whatever time they do in jail until the next administration set them free, because of racisssm.
Off duty police officer: Halt or I’ll shoot.
BAM, BAM, BAM.
Bystander: Nice shot.
Police officer: Yeah, good thing he halted.
Boom
Headshot!
Oh, I can hear the wailing and the hand wringing already! POOOOLICE BRUTALLLITIE!
BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM!
Halt!
Still no name. Creep has croaked. At least one report says he was hit several times. (11:34PM PST)
Yeah. He’s dead again. The terrorism angle may not pan out.
Dead perp identified as one Khalil Lawal, who left islamic rantings on his social media and identified himself as a “Soldier of Allah”. Most definitely an attempted terror attack by a ROP devotee, even if the uber-PC Philly Police is refusing to admit as much…
“During the struggle, the officer fired about ten shots, hitting Lawal in the torso, legs, and face. The detective suffered minor injuries and has been treated and released from the hospital.”
“The struggle between the suspect and the officer was caught on video, Commissioner Richard Ross said during a news conference late Monday. However, he said he was concerned about the number of shots the detective fired. The entire incident remains under investigation.”
Multiple hits and the police commish is concerned about the number of shots fired? He ought to be commending the officer for reacting. The target wasn’t stationary. This was a mortal fight. Shit happens. Scratch one jihadi.
