Saturday morning feel good stories

From Chattanooga, Tennessee;

Police were originally dispatched to a report of a burglary in progress on the 100 block of N Crest Road around 10:50 p.m., but when they arrived they were greeted with a far different situation, according to a news release.

Officers determined the suspect, Gary McCoy, 24, had actually been shot and was attempting to get help from the occupants of the home. He knocked on several doors, but when no one answered, he shattered a glass sliding door with a lawn chair in an attempt to activate the alarm.

Paramedics transported McCoy to a local hospital for treatment for a minor wound and investigators were able to determine the location of the shooting nearby.

From Fort Walton Beach, Florida;

Okaloosa County has experienced a rash of unrelated burglaries, which led to the arrest of six people this week.

But it was the arrest in Fort Walton Beach by police which raised eyebrows.

Robert Patrick Cash is looking at two counts of burglary of an occupied dwelling.

He’s in custody, thanks to a homeowner who took the law into his own hands.

The Fort Walton Beach Police Department said it was just after six o’clock when Cash entered Clint Aden’s home on Sherwood Lane in Fort Walton Beach.

Police said Cash walked right through the garage and into Aden’s home wearing only underwear.

Aden didn’t see him come in and didn’t suspect anything until his son, who saw the suspect, alerted his dad.

“He asked ‘dad, did you expect someone to be over here?’ and I said, ‘no,’ and he said, ‘a man with grey hair just came into our house and went upstairs.'” Aden said.

Clint pulled out a pistol and headed into his daughter’s room.

“His shoes were right here when I turned on the light, which kind of caught my eye and I thought ‘this is really happening,’ so I eased around the corner, right here, and eased around the corner and this man was right behind this piece of furniture,” Aden said.

With only a split second to act, he had the drop on Cash and decided not to shoot.

“I’ve always thought, ‘I’m just going to shoot the person,’ you know, they are in my house, so I mean that’s what I’ve, truly, once I realized he wasn’t armed, I didn’t feel an imminent threat to myself or the family, so I just held him there at gunpoint and everything worked out for all of us, I mean that’s certainly not what we want to do, is to take someone’s life,” Aden said.

Aden held Cash at gunpoint for about two minutes, until officers who were already searching the area for the suspect arrived at the home and took him into custody.

From Corpus Christi, Texas;

Officers were dispatched to the area just after 4 a.m. for numerous shots fired. When officers arrived on scene, the homeowner said that three to four people forced their way into the home. Gunfire was then exchanged from inside and outside of the house, according to Lt. Steven Gonzalez.

Two people inside the home were uninjured, according to Gonzalez.

“They’re not injured, which is the great thing about it, “Lt. Gonzalez said. “No one was shot, they weren’t shot, they weren’t hurt, just a little shaken up.”

Several casings were found at the scene from different types of firearms, according to officers.

“Some type of assault rifle was used in this offense,” Lt. Gonzalez said.

Up to 20 shots were fired at the scene, officers said. Casings from at least two different sized weapons were found.

Officers are still searching for the people involved and investigating who exactly fired the shots.

From Citrus County, Florida;

According to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were responding to a burglary in process at 4:31 p.m. Wednesday on West Dunklin Street when a male suspect, later identified as Zechariah Tackett, 28, of Levy County, was shot.

When deputies arrived, they found Tackett lying on his back outside of the residence, and two males identified as Robert Jones Sr., 54, and Robert Jones Jr., 32, both of Citrus County, standing in the driveway.

Deputies performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Tackett, but he was unresponsive and pronounced dead at 4:51 p.m, the report states.

Major crimes detectives interviewed Robert Jones Sr., who said after receiving a call from his sister about a possible burglary, he and his son — both carrying weapons — responded to the home and found an unknown male in the living room. He said Tackett was shot during that confrontation, the report states.

The Phoenix Police Department says a business owner shot a robbery suspect and held him at gunpoint until police arrived.

The incident happened at a business near Greenway Road and Tatum Boulevard around 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Police say the man was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Another suspect also involved in the robbery was not injured and was detained at the scene.
