Sergeant La David Johnson; additional remains discovered
Apparently, there’s still a search on for the remains of Sergeant LaDavid Johnson. The Department of Defense made the following statement;
On Nov. 12, 2017, a joint U.S Africa Command military investigation team discovered additional human remains at the site where Sgt. La David T. Johnson’s body was recovered following the Oct. 4 attack. Today, we can confirm that the Armed Forces Medical Examiner has positively identified these remains as those of Sgt. Johnson. The department continues to conduct a detailed and thorough investigation into the deaths of Staff Sgt. Bryan C. Black, Staff Sgt. Jeremiah W. Johnson, Staff Sgt. Dustin M. Wright, and Sgt. La David T. Johnson. We extend our deepest condolences to all of the families of the fallen.

This did not need to be made public. My heart goes out to his family, how horrible to have to hear this kind of thing.

What was the purpose/intent of DoD doing this? Was it a CYA in case the information was leaked?
SGT Johnson came home. And now this shocking revelation.
Why? What value did it add, especially to the grieving family?
Totally agree, they were given closure at the funeral; and now this?

Who’s bright idea was it to release this information.
What will become of this body part now? It isn’t like they will dig him up and throw this part of him in there, right?
Maybe they should have quietly buried him at his base, or given these remains a burial at-sea.
I just know that I’d be very upset if this were my loved one.
I remember something similar happened about ten years ago involving a Marine. I believe it was the Marine who was KIA and his wife kept a vigil at his casket, under the watch of the two Marine sentinels. Sometime after his burial, the family received notice that additional remains were identified. If I’m not mistaken, they elected to have the additional remains cremated and put the ashes in an urn. The family shared that info. In this most recent incident, I agree that this info should have remained private. There was no need for me or anyone else to know about this.
Agree with all above. What a terrible thing for Sgt. Johnson’s family to hear. What really, really bad judgment to make this public.
Why is this even out here? I’m sure there are a lot of stuff the public don’t need to know. Heads on sticks, hands tied to a fence. Somethings are left unsaid and unreported. Just take care of it. Keep some kind of honor for all our troops. Enough said.

Why does the darn media think everything needs to be made public and that goes for the DOD Media also. Not everything has to be made freaking public. RIP my brother .

If you shield people from truth, danger, or responsibility then you are the one to answer for their lack of competence. A parent is responsible for their children.
But why do WE need to know it? It could have been between DoD and the family – which it should have been. There’s simply no sane reason to brute this about on the news.
Who would have told Congresswoman Hat and she would have told everyone about the “coverup”.
I think the release was a reaction to the criticism that the DOD wasn’t being open about the circumstances of the Sgt’s death.
This isn’t about shielding anyone from the truth, from danger, or from responsibility. This is about making voyeurs of all of us when there is no good reason to do so. In this particular case it is about once again dragging a family through public hell with no benefit to them or anyone else by doing so.
Whatever information the family needs can be given to them privately and quietly. Any intel can be passed along to whoever needs it. Adjustments can be made to training protocols if necessary. All of that should be done without publishing the specifics.
Just because we have the scientific ability to ID scattered remains of the fallen doesn’t mean we have to flaunt it. There should be a fucking policy that if additional remains are found of someone who has been positively ID and have had some remains interred they should be treated like amputated limbs or tissue removed during a medical procedure. Cremate them and nothing should be mentioned to the public.
Its just going to lead to more Bullshit. I can see it now. Mr and Mrs Smith, although you lost your son 3 years ago he found one of his ears, a foot and what looks like his lower intestines in a terrorist training camp last week.
Fucking Ghouls.
One of the Gold Star moms I know pretty well went through this with several other families. Their sons were killed in a blast, and the remains were returned to the families for Dignified Transfer and burial. They went through the whole thing. Then later (weeks and months) they were contacted because additional remains were identified and they basically had to go through it again. I believe it was with the third notification of additional remains that the families got together and requested those and any/all additional remains be cremated and/or buried together, unseparated from one another as they died together and one, single, large marker was erected for all of them at Arlington. There had been a scandal over accusations that remains were being returned to Dover and simply cremated, with no ceremony, etc. The truth is, those families were told that it was possible that in time, additional remains of their loved ones would be identified. They were asked how they would like that eventuality to be addressed. They choose whether or not to be notified, whether or not to accept those remains for additional cremation or internment, or whether to remain unaware and allow the mortuary officials, some of the kindest, most dedicated personnel in the Armed Forces to conduct a proper, dignified and solemn cremation without notification to them. Many families choose this latter path. But of course, the ghouls in the media who can’t begin to understand the impossibility of these decisions stole that bit of private pain from many families, and caused them to question how those additional remains of their loved ones had in fact been handled. Which reopened their pain in new, horrifying ways. In other words, there are no good answers here particularly in this media and political climate. So, while the Johnson family was subjected to that disgraceful media circus, they were aware Sgt. Johnson’s uniform was not filled.
