US Navy helps in search for ARA San Juan
The Argentine submarine ARA San Juan and it’s crew is missing since November 17th. The US Navy has joined in the search for the craft off the Argentinian coast just as the country reports that they have received signals that indicate that the crew is trying to establish contact, according to Stars & Stripes;
Authorities last had contact with the German-built, diesel-electric sub on Wednesday as it was on a voyage from the extreme southern port of Ushuaia to Mar del Plata.
Argentine President Mauricio Macri said in a tweet that the country will use “all resources national and international that are necessary to find the submarine.”
Pledges of help came from Chile, Uruguay, Peru and Brazil, as well as the United States, which sent a NASA scientific aircraft and a Navy plane. Britain was sending a polar exploration vessel, the HMS Protector, which British officials said should arrive Sunday.
The U.S. Navy ordered its Undersea Rescue Command based in San Diego, California to deploy to Argentina to support the search for the submarine.
I guess prayers wouldn’t be unwelcomed, either.

I hope for the best outcome for our Seafaring missing brothers.
Amen!
Why I tell my Bubblehead bud that he was crazy. Can’t imagine going in one of those steel tubes. 130 and a chute lot less scary. Even a 119.
Prayers they get a break.
Only the Navy would design a ship that is intended to sink.
Here’s hoping for a safe recovery. Good on the Argentinians to ask for help. No room for egos, just ask the crewmen who survived the initial blast on the Kursk.
My first thought on seeing that they’re taking help from the Brits was that they must really be desperate. On the other hand, nice to see that they care enough about their guys to set aside the Falklands thing for the time being.
Bet there are no atheists abaord that sub. I pray for their speedy rescue.
Lord, please be merciful and bring that crew home safely.
I never understood why they would take a perfectly good boat out and sink it, on purpose…
Here’s hoping that it all turns out well and they find them alive and safe.
They are investigating some SATCOMs that may have come from her. I wish them the best.

Last I heard, it was a signal off an Iridium phone, but no voice comms.
At least our resources won’t be delayed by waiting on a US sub. The recompression unit can be delivered on site by surface ship.
Iridium makes sense. Hopefully that means they are able to get to PD, or or on the surface.
My prayers to my Brothers of The ‘Phin.
I pray for a successful outcome from all of this. In spite of being English and still having the Argies pursue ridiculous claims against the Falkland Islanders it makes no difference to the brotherhood of man.
If this is a diesel-electric sub, how long can it stay submerged before power – and I assume air – becomes a problem? I’m Army, so I don’t know much about submarines, but the history buff in me knows that the WWII era diesels had to surface fairly frequently to recharge batteries.
