The number of injured is up to 8.
Oh, Lord!
I hope these Marines are going to be okay. I await further info checks.
It’s a dangerous business.
It’s not for everyone.
God be with them all. Training for war is as dangerous as war sometimes.
You are correct sir…unfortunate realities of a dangerous profession.
I got burned once really badly when I was in the military.
Well I wasn’t really in the military, yet.
I was still in the recruiter’s office.
/please don’t hit me.
//gallows humor….
ROFLOL ! ! !
Here’s an update on the circumstances surrounding this incident:
’15 Marines injured when vehicle ignites on California base’

‘[…]
The Marines from the 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment and 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion were conducting a combat readiness evaluation as part of their battalion training at about 9:30 a.m. on a beach at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base, north of San Diego, when the amphibious vehicle ignited, said Marine 1st Lt. Paul Gainey.
The amphibious vehicle got stuck and then caught fire as the Marines were trying to free it, said a defense who spoke anonymously because the official was not authorized to discuss the incident publicly,
The command is investigating the cause of the incident. Gainey said he had no further information to release.

The good news is that UCSD has an exceptional burn center. They’re in good hands.
The bad news is that even the most advanced care in the world doesn’t change the fact that burn injuries truly suck.
Oh yeah. Debriding is no fun.
The Lord have mercy on them.
Amen. My late wife went through that. Days on end. Horrible.
Hope for a rapid recovery of the injured Marines, and the investigation discovers the cause.
The photo above is of an LVTP-7 (or whatever the current desig is). Dear God, are the Gyrenes still using that? That vehicle has been around since the early ’70s. I thought for sure the Gyrenes have replaced it by now; I guess I was wrong…
We stuck a shit ton of money into the EFV but eventually it was scrapped. “The EFV was designed to replace the aging AAV-7A1 Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV),[2] which entered service in 1972,[3] and was the Marine Corps’ number one priority ground weapon system acquisition. It was to have had three times the speed in water and about twice the armor of the AAV, as well as superior firepower. The vehicle was to be deployed in 2015;[4] however, on 6 January 2011 it was cancelled”. Gates did this, and also was responsible for scrapping the Army’s Crusader self propelled howitzer.
3rd Amtracks was Hack Stone’s first duty station when he escaped from MCCES and hit the fleet. Coincidentally I had my 3rd AAV Bn Challenge Coin on me today at work. Up until today, I never carried it with me at work.
Every day in service to our country is a day of danger. Get well soon Devildogs!
God Bless all of them.
Dangerous business as we all know. There really is nothing to compare it to in the civilian world.
And we would all do it again in a minute…
That is odd because the AAV has a fire suppression system in it. Been stuck in an AAV before and thankfully it didn’t catch fire. Probably too cold at Camp Fuji maybe.
