British sniper+US-made rifle=72 virgins

| June 1, 2017

The UK’s Daily Star tells the story of how a British sniper, in a classic sniper-counter-sniper gun fight took out a jihadist sniper with his $13,800 CheyTac M200 Intervention, a US-made rifle at the range of a mile-and-a-half. According to Wiki, the rifle is chambered for .408 Chey Tac or .375 Chey Tac ammunition.

“It was like a game of cat-and-mouse and at one point the SAS almost gave up, believing that the terrorist had gone to ground.

“He certainly knew how to use the ground to his advantage and had clearly received military training.

“Just as the light was beginning to fade the gunman moved into what he thought was a safe location and lifted his rifle up into his shoulder before the SAS shot him dead.

“The distance was so far that it took almost three seconds for the bullet to hit the target.

Nice shot.

Once upon a time, the Brits made pretty good guns of their own. Then the SA80/L85 happened, and it was all downhill from there.

Pop goes the weasel.

FuzeVT

The SAS – making bad things happen to bad guys for 76 years.

Mick

Boom.

‘Who Dares Wins.’

Graybeard

Gotta give it to our British brethren, those SAS guys have been wreaking havoc on the Angry Amish quite effectively.

MustangCryppie

I love the operation when they dressed in burkas and infiltrated ISIS territory…and kicked some major duty ISIS butt.

Well, well done.

ChipNASA

I’m kinda going to call BS on this one until we get more confirmation.

The Daily Fail has been publishing a bunch of Pro SAS handjobby articles about their snipers successes.

IF true, this would come in third behind the # 1 & 2 current records set in 2009 by Corporal of Horse (CoH) Craig Harrison, 2707 yds and Corporal Rob Furlong of Canada at 2657 respectively.

Not saying it didn’t happen but I’d want independent confirmation besides Metro and the Sun.
Google is all over the place on it.

One of them said it took *six* seconds to get there. That is wither a really slow bullet or it’s like Billy on the Family Circus comic and went all over the place before getting to the target vs. the 3 second bullet.
/yes crotchety. lol

Graybeard

Hey, crotchety is a good thing.

But it makes for encouraging reading at least and some mind-games for the goat-lovers.

Like the story of the SAS guy who pinged the flamethrower and got the murderer martyr to his 72-goats as a crispy critter. Fun reading anyway.

“If it ain’t true, it ought to be.”

Build a man a fire, keep him warm for a few hours.

Set a man on fire, keep him warm for the rest of his life.

FatCircles0311

Yeah the British press is f’n awful and it seems every year they print a sniper story with zero actual confirmation of what they post.

Thunderstixx

More magic from the SAS…
POOF, you’re a pile of shit…

Another goatfucker takes a dirt nap!! 😎

Former EM1/SS

I’m pretty sure that TRAVIS AARON WADE, our new resident super sniper, could have made this shot from the standing position with a Smith and Wesson Revolver.

If he hadn’t gotten the PTSD from his boot camp experience….

IDC SARC

Shot of a lifetime right there. Dayamm fine.

Deplorable B Woodman

I wonder bow many shots the sniper took before the observer had the goat-fucker dialed in?

David

They claim one shot.

Reading the specs, this is not a spectacularly large cartridge – muzzle velocity of 3100 fps is not outrageous, pressures aren’t any higher than most magnums like a 7mm or .300 mag, but the bullet’s ballistic coefficient of .900+ explains a lot. Damn good engineering went into its design. The range on this is well within the routine range envelope – this thing is made to shoot 2000+ yards routinely.

Graybeard

It almost makes me want to go back and take physics just to understand how they got a ballistic coefficient that high.

almost

Deplorable B Woodman

Seriously…a BC of 0.90+? Awesome!

David

Actual measured BC in one test of something like .91 something.http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2013/05/texas-shooter-nails-target-at-3650-yards-with-375-cheytac/ is a guy tagging a 12×12′ target at over 2 miles at Whittington. Says on that load the powder charge is 136 grains of Retumbo (that is about double the charge for a .30-06)

David

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016/11/03/408-cheytac-at-4-540-yards/ is a French sniper claiming 3 hits at 4540 yards.

Graybeard

Dang.

Perry Gaskill

Well done, lads. A remarkable shot.

Slightly OT: Anybody else find it difficult to concentrate on the Daily Star’s sniper piece? What with all the photo links to Sara Underwood’s booty, Laura Carter’s hooter bulge, and so forth, I’m gonna take a wild guess that the Daily Star is not run by the same crew that puts out Vanity Fair…

MustangCryppie

Oh! NOW I have to click on the link! Thanks!

HMCS(FMF) ret

Talk about “reaching out and touching someone”!

BZ to the SAS!

Mike

$13,800 well spent!

Foxbat40

So it is not just the rifle. It is the combination of the round and the rifle. I bet there is a lot of powder behind that round.

jonp

Bang!

BOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

I can’t shoot past 700yrds or so and hit a barn. I’m amazed at these guys.

HMC Ret

I got dibs on his goat herd. I’ll take any stump broke larger animals he has, also.

Sprinkle his ass with pig’s blood. That’ll get their attention. No virgins in his future if a pig enters the picture.

RCAF_Chairborne

Indeed….. That worked when just trying to ‘Civilise em with a Krag’
didn’t.
It would work today, but we are too PC nowadays to risk offending the person we kill.
