MAX stabbing
This guy, Jeremy Joseph Christian, murdered two men and injured another who were trying to intervene when he was becoming belligerent with two women wearing hijabs on the Portland MAX commuter train. One of his victims was Rick Vest a recently retired Sergeant First Class.
Christian is well-known to Portland authorities. In April, he showed up at a parade event throwing Nazi hand-salutes and calling folks racist names, according to the Washington Post;
In Portland, clashes broke out last month during what was supposed to be a parade to start the city’s annual Rose Festival. The April 29 parade was canceled after anti-fascist groups pledged to disrupt the event because of the participation of a county Republican Party float. Parade organizers did not want to risk violence. Instead, the day was marked by protesters from across the political spectrum.
That’s where Christian showed up, with his flag cape, where he was noticed by journalists from The Oregonian who were live-streaming the event.
“That’s the dude who wrote all that ranting, weird stuff on the Facebook page. That’s the dude in the ’76 cape,” one of the journalists said, referring to the 1776 American flag that Christian wore around his neck, “the one who got kicked out earlier.”
“Oh, the one who was shouting at everyone.”
“He was shouting racial epithets at the park,” she continued.

In 2002, he pleaded guilty and was sent to prison on robbery and kidnapping charges, according to KOIN 6.
In 2010, he was accused of theft and being a felon in possession of a firearm. That case was later dismissed, but federal weapons charges were brought and he was convicted and sentenced to time served, KOIN 6 reported.
Federal court records show that on January 6, 2011, a grand jury in Portland indicted Christian with one count each of being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of a stolen firearm. The firearm in question was a Rossi, .357 caliber revolver.
The charge of being a felon in possession of a stolen firearm was later dismissed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office because, legally, there questions about whether the gun Christian was in possession of was actually reported as stolen.
Christian’s federal conviction didn’t result in any additional prison sentence – just “time served” while he was in custody as his federal case was resolved. He was also ordered to serve 3 years of supervised released.
In Oregon, charges are dropped, he’s sentenced to “time served” for being in possession of firearms as a convicted felon. In Oregon. That state that writes new gun laws every chance they get. This time he didn’t need a gun to kill anyone – but he shouldn’t have been on the street. The prosecutors can be proud of themselves for making that possible.

While that is true, it bothers me more that many are saying this is Trump’s fault because of his hate speech.
Now, as you know, I am no Trump fan, and I think his speech is over the top. However, to attribute this murder to Trumps speech is essentially absolving the murderer of his crimes.

This is a great example of why hate crime laws are bad. Punish the act, not the thoughts. God can do that.
I noticed this, also, the slant of the article/articles toward “hate speech” rather than assault. Two men lost their lives not for standing up against hate, but rather, trying to protect women from assault. The Left’s template on full view here.
On a local news station, the two men who tried to stop the knife wielder were discussed and honored. The murderous basterd was given one sentence. No hate speech was mentionoed.
Events are indicative of what once was a great duty station (i.e. Portland International Airport 337th fighter Group). Lots of nuts and fruitcakes on both sides of the spectrum plus a liberal approach to punishment. Lots of easy women though if I recall.
Jonn you nailed it. I get so sick of reading stories of convicted felons committing new crimes and to learn that they should still be in prison. The liberal agenda on the Left Coast seems to want their “students’ or “clients” to serve the least amount of time possible. It quite the norm to real about a criminal that is being sentenced on a new crime to see that he had already committed a like crime and should still have been in prison. The cry is that it is wrong to warehouse people and we have too many people in prison, or it is too expensive. I wonder how that compares to the cost of human injury and life?
This was a situation that begged for a citizen with a CCP. Then we wouldn’t have to provide bed, beans, and oxygen to this skid stain of humanity.

This event took place on public transportation, a crowded environment, with far more risk to bystanders/other passengers, and to the driver, than anything else. I do not think a gun used on public transport is appropriate unless the car is empty of most of the other passengers.

Everyone up here are calling him a White Supremacist, a Conservative, a Republican, an NRA member, and even a Tea Party member. As the estimates of the dead from the “Night of the Long Knives” range from 200 to 1000, it’s doubtful that “all the believing socialists were murdered” then.
First, as William Shirer pointed out, all documents relating to those events were destroyed during the war, hence there is no reliable documentation.
Second, as Shirer has pointed out, other claims exist. One cites 401 deaths, another over a thousand.
While that night might not have exterminated all believing socialists in the party, it certainly wiped the leaders such as Roehm and the Strassers.
Oddly enough Goebbels survived, being a rabid socialist until then, but I suspect his dog-like allegiance to whatever Hitler said helped him survive.

This guy was no liberal. Bernie had an unusual following. Most were progressive. But 5-15% of his supporters were conservatives that hated the establishment or Hillary and supported Bernie because he was running against Hillary and challenging the status quo.

I am not sure why some of you are upset that Trump is being put in the circle of blame for this. It seems hypocritical given the huge circle of blame Obama was placed in for essentially everything that happened over the last two administration. Trump capitalizes on right wing nationalist and racist sentiment. It is an old playbook of megalomaniac right wing populist political opportunists. Tapping into that sentiment and mobilizing it to support his candidacy will have larger social consequences.
Is it all Trump’s fault? No, he was just leveraging sentiment that already existed. However, those that hold the sentiment are much more mobilized, motivated, and in their minds validated than they were before. And this are more likely to publicly act on their beliefs.
