Friday morning feel good stories

From Albuquerque, New Mexico;

His break-in at the shop sent a 6 a.m. alarm to Maestas’s cell phone, and he took off immediately toward the store. He was ready for anything.

“I snuck in the front door so he wouldn’t hear me, and I see his foot going up the hole,” Maestas said as he pointed upward to an air vent smashed aside to reveal an escape hatch through the shop’s ceiling.

When Maestas walked in on the guy, he was in the middle of robbing him blind. According to Maestas, he jumped up on the countertop and made his way up to a heating vent. Maestas shot at him, but he got up and escaped across the rooftop.

“I just reached over and didn’t even look, shot one round close as I could get to him,” Maestas said.

Maestas was packing miniature shotgun shells in his revolver, and the jolt from the blast must have spooked the guy. Workers on the roof Wednesday afternoon found the burglar’s booty abandoned.

From Statesville, North Carolina;

According to a police report, an 80-year-old man was woken up late Wednesday night by a man wearing a mask demanding money. The elderly man had a handgun nearby, was able to get it and shot at the masked intruder. The masked man then forced the gun away from the elderly man and then shot at him. Police say the elderly man was also pistol-whipped during the incident.

The masked suspect fled with the elderly man’s handgun, as well as the cash he had stolen.

40-year-old Marcus Dshawn Brown was arrested at a hospital and charged with first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, common law robbery, larceny of a firearm and possession of firearm by a convicted felon. Brown and his victim are expected to recover.

From Llano, Texas;

Llano police say officers responded to 109 W. Main Street around 12:50 a.m. Thursday in reference to a burglary in progress. When they arrived, officers found 29-year-old Robert Sutton, of Llano, lying on the ground with a single gunshot wound. Sutton was taken to the hospital where he died.

A second suspect identified as Jonathan Tuma, 19, of Tow, was taken into custody and charged with burglary of a habitation. Authorities are not releasing any information as to who might have shot Sutton.

Legally armed citizens are protecting what is theirs, and leaving criminals perforated, dead, or at least so scared that they leave their loot to go home and change their underwear. Letting a thug get close enough to take your gun away could turn out very badly for you. One person was pistol whipped with his own weapon. Not Good!

Ummm…..an 80 yo asleep in hi own house late at night. What’s the old man going to do? Stay up all night, waiting, just in case?

If you are going to have a weapon, be good with it! More range time people, more range time! We come in peace, shoot to kill!

That’s probably one of the reasons police recommend the short barrel, twelve gauge pump shotgun, loaded with double aught buckshot, as a home defense weapon, instead of a pistol.

In a darkened, confined space, a shotgun doesn’t miss, and the sound and flash is like having a bomb detonate right next to you.

Another reason the pump shotgun is recommended for home defense is because the unmistakable unique sound of racking a shell into the chamber is usually sufficient to frighten away any intruder, without it ever being necessary to actually have to shoot anybody, which nobody in their right mind really wants to have to do.

John Robert Mallernee

In addition to the twelve gauge pump shotgun being recommended as the best home defense weapon, a dog is the best burglar alarm.

It doesn’t have to be a specially trained guard dog or attack dog, and in fact, such an animal would be a liability, as it might result in either/or civil litigation and criminal prosecution if an innocent person is attacked.

Just an ordinary, tail wagging, happy-go-lucky, friendly pup is suitable, as it is any dog’s natural instinct to bark at an uninvited intruder during the night.

David

You’re better off with the dog than a 12 gauge pump… dog will wake up faster than you do. Spread on an open choke shotgun is about an inch per yard so even in a relatively large room you are talking something like a 7-8″ pattern – that is not the magic unmissable pattern of death many people think. Plus you need to consider – people who break into occupied homes knowingly are not always rational number one, and if they are a wired up methhead anticipating a fight, the sound of that pump is an excuse to unload a lot of rounds in that direction. I like pumps… but they are not always the optimal solution. Me, I want a round in the chamber BEFORE starting the dance.

Fill them with 9 .30 cal. round balls in a double ought buck load and they will become rational in a big ass hurry!!

Oh, stop. You’re almost as bad a Joe “Shoot in the air” Biden with your hilariously awful firearm and defense advice. Shotguns miss all the time and shooting one if nothing close to being a bomb of anything.

Just stop.

@ FAT CIRCLES 0311, Et Alii:

I specified a pump shotgun with a SHORT barrel, which produces an immediate spread.

I also specified that when you fire a twelve gauge in a dark, confined space, that the effect is like having a bomb detonate.

I’ve been there.

It is.

At least, to me, it sure seemed like it.

I don’t give a tiny little rat’s ass if Dishwater Brown recovers. He can sink into a pool of quicksand.

I’m more interested in how the elderly victim is doing.

John Robert Mallernee

“Police say both Brown and the victim are expected to recover.”

Since they captured Brown and recovered stolen items, I reckon that means the eighty year old unidentified victim will have his pistol returned to him, but probably not until after Brown is eventually tried, convicted, and sentenced, as the pistol is evidence.

I’m surprised that among the charges against Brown, that he wasn’t also charged with Elder Abuse.

FatCircles0311

What kind of a moron goes to confront robber(s) with a .410 judge or public defender revolver? He’s lucky he wasn’t killed doing something that stupid.

desert

look at you tube where they are shooting the Governor and the Judge…410 with double OO makes a hell of a hole!!

.
Shame they didn’t find parts of him too.

Looks like the shooter in Texas is the better of the three. A happy ending indeed. Gotta love Texas.
