Tuesday morning feel good stories

| April 18, 2017

In Anderson, South Carolina;

Nathan Morris, 19, is charged with two counts of attempted murder for allegedly shooting above the heads of two neighbors who intervened when they saw him breaking into a car, according to a report from an Anderson County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

Morris parked his car in a driveway on LaFrance Road in Anderson County at about 9:45 a.m. and took a computer from a nearby 2017 Nissan Altima, but mistakenly left his own car key inside, neighbors told the deputy.

Morris ran toward his own car and was inside of it when a man came out with a gun and fired a warning shot into the ground, the report noted.

Morris then realized he didn’t have his car keys and came out of his car, saying he had been in a wreck and needed help, but quickly tried to wrestle the gun from the neighbor, the neighbors said.

In the scuffle, Morris got control of the gun and fired at least once above the heads of two neighbors, who were trying to stop him, according to the deputy’s report.

The neighbors got the gun back and when deputies arrived, one of the neighbors was laying on top of Morris, keeping the teen from leaving.

HMC Ret sends us a link to a story that happened in Riverdale, Georgia;

Greg Silvery said he rushed out of his bedroom after hearing his son scream for help. When he came out he saw one of his sons trying to push the front door closed as a man was trying to get in. The 6’3, 340 pound disabled Army veteran said he gave it all he had and punched the intruder in the face.

“I saw his eyes roll back and he hit that and he fell back,” said Greg.

Greg said he shut the door, laid across the floor and told his family to get back, concerned the intruder may have had a gun.

“The 6’3, 340 pound disabled Army veteran said he gave it all he had and punched the intruder in the face.”

I doubt the intruder is going to remember much beyond the last few seconds thinking “that is one big fist”….

I have never accused thugs of being intelligent. This is one example of why: “Morris, (thug), parked his car in a driveway on LaFrance Road in Anderson County at about 9:45 a.m. and took a computer from a nearby 2017 Nissan Altima, but mistakenly left his own car key inside, neighbors told the deputy.”
And, no matter how big a thug might be, there is always someone bigger:
“The 6’3, 340 pound disabled Army veteran said he gave it all he had and punched the intruder in the face.
“I saw his eyes roll back and he hit that and he fell back,””

Damn Greg way to go.

“The 6’3, 340 pound disabled Army veteran said he gave it all he had and punched the intruder in the face.” Now, see? All I need is the cast iron skillet on the stovetop.

Oh, did I mention there’s a new shooting range that just opened up not too far from me?

David

PH2 – you worry me with the cast iron skillet – that is letting them get in too damn close with too little weapon. A few rounds center of mass from across the room will save loads of wear and tear on a nice skillet, and with your cooking skills, that skillet is worth any number of perps.

Oh, you’re so sweet!! But frankly, a gun in this area is not a smart thing. A misfired or poorly-aimed bullet would go through the walls of most of these houses like a knife through paper.

However, I also have a can of hornet spray, which I used on unwanted visiting hornets the other day. Very effective.

David

Once upon a time Mossberg made a smaller version of its M500 shotgun in .410 – looked tacticool and had a Cutts Compensator on the muzzle which made it look like a 12 gauge. Rack the pump like a big boy shotgun and it sounded right…and a .410 at close range, while having minimal recoil (or tendency to go through walls), hits harder than a .44 Magnum.

I know it’s not ‘this’ kind of feel good story, but for lack of anywhere else to post this, here’s a great story of a Marine, SSGT Jose Luis Sanchez, who just ran the Boston Marathon – carrying the flag, and with one leg:

Here he is crossing the finish line:

Semper Fi indeed!

It’s a Feel Good story alright.

SSGT Sanchez is a fine example of Overcoming.

Thanks LC.

Wow. Great Job SSGT Sanchez! Way to represent!

Now, THAT is too cool for words!

“The 6’3″, 340 pound disabled Army veteran said he gave it all he had and punched the intruder in the face.”

If a guy that size had merely suggested I lie down and wait for the cops, I would have complied. I’m thinking ‘all he had’ was more than adequate.
