Rand Paul; we dodged a John McCain bullet

| February 20, 2017

Republican Senator Rand Paul told ABC News that the country is “lucky” that John McCain isn’t president;

“Everything that he says about the president is colored by his own personal dispute he has got running with President Trump [over foreign policy], and it should be taken with a grain of salt because John McCain is the guy that has advocated for war everywhere. He would bankrupt the nation,” Paul told ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl on “This Week.”

“Actually we’re very lucky John McCain is not in charge because I think we would be in perpetual war,” the Kentucky senator added.

McCain has lately taken to criticizing President Trump’s attacks on the media;

“The first thing that dictators do is shut down the press,” McCain said in an interview with NBC News. “And I’m not saying that President Trump is trying to be a dictator. I’m just saying we need to learn the lessons of history.”

I disagree with Paul, in that eight years of a presidency isn’t “perpetual war” – the war in Iraq and Syria is still going on through the Obama Presidency. But that “maverick” McCain has outlived any usefulness he ever had to the Republican Party. What has Trump done to “shut down the press”? Other than call them out and talk around the media.

McCain was NEVER in the republican party, he was always a RINO…a dimwitted one at that imho!

A Proud Infidel®™

Anymore I see Senator McCain as a bitter old man seething with jealousy over President trump taking office. The 2008 election was his to lose which he did and since then he has sold out taxpaying Americans every chance he’s had. IMHO Senator McCain is emblematic of what’s wrong with DC these days, he’s part of the “Inner Circle DC Country Club”, lifelong politicians who keep themselves beholden to whoever buys their votes with the biggest campaign donations among the other things they bribe with.

His push along with Robb, Kerry (ugh!), Kerrey, Pressler and Daschle told me all I needed to know decades ago.
Thank you for your service McCain. Now drop fucking dead.

rgr769

Ditto.

USMC Steve

I know a couple hundred sailors killed on the Forrestal who would differ with you on that dumbass’s service.

Dumb comment. What does the fire on FIREBALL have to do with Senator McCain? Wait, I’ll answer that Alex for $200, NOTHING. FIREBALL caught on fire because of a missile misfire across the deck. Obviously you never saw the USN non- wow chicka bow wow training movie. You can go back to eating crayons and glue now.

W2

Remember Billy, stray electrons and aircraft on the flight deck loaded with ordinance and fuel are nobody’s friend.

Push to recognize Vietnam. Sorry.

rgr769

Exactly. He is the prototypical RHINO. There should be a picture of him right next to the definition of rhino in the dictionary. He is a toothless old ‘gator in the swamp of DC. Calling him a conservative Republican is a sick joke. Remember, he is chief of the ass-wipes who claim waterboarding is “torture,” even though many who attended SERE school were subjected to it.

The Other Whitey

I think McCain’s time in captivity fucked with his head more than anyone, himself included, realizes. And that’s not his fault. He underwent physical and psychological torture on a daily basis at the hands of the (not to be feared) communists in Vietnam for years, and resisted admirably, but very few men can withstand such hell for that long with their sanity fully intact.

I don’t think he suffered a lot! He was the son of an admiral, that made him the VC’s “fair haired boy”!

ca

Actually, no. They pushed him a lot harder exactly because he was an admiral’s son. If they could have broken someone of that background it would have been a huge PR victory for them.

Hondo

I wish these two would take their petty catfight behind closed doors vice throwing darts in the press.

Neither is exactly showing much class at the moment.

Sparks

Thank you Hondo. Keep it in the cloak room.

Wishing Pence was the Prez.

MrBill

Amen to that.

Gee whiz, even I know when to shut the frak up. Most of us do.

WAR STORY WARNING:
As an E-6, I worked directly for McCain’s father at CINCPAC Joint Secretariat, hitched a ride to DC with him once on his 121, handled something for his mother who was a super lady, was planeside with a few hundred others when McCain arrived at Hickam after being released, and in general thought he had his stuff together but it has become obvious this acorn did fall far from the tree. McCain is the reason we were stuck with Obama. Time for him to go back to his beer distributorship wife if she will still have him.

timactual

McCain has stayed in the arena past his sell-by date. Time for his friends to tell him he should start planning his retirement party.

Roger in Republic

Google “The Keating Five”, McCain has been dead to me since he was named in that scandal. Selling influence should be a hanging offence for any federal office holder.

Yef

Roger dat.

Casey

I do wish people would inform themselves properly before loudly expressing opinions on situations where they are self-evidently uninformed.

First, McCain was cleared. Second, the only reason he was on the list was to act as a fig leaf to obscure the fact that all the crooked pols were Democrats. Adding McCain made the scandal appear more bipartisan. John Glenn got added to the list for the same reason. He was obviously clean, which gave the actually corrupt pols some cover.

So, no, sorry, McCain never sold influence. He made enough real mistakes without adding on provably incorrect rumors.

David

Declared his mental incompetence the day he picked his VP. Downhill ever since.

Yef

The only reason I voted for him was Sarah Palin.
Now that’s a woman to reckon with. She got more balls than any congresscritter.

I wait. I didn’t vote in that election. I was in Iraq suckin balls and eating shit.

Devtun

OT, reports are LTG H.R. McMaster is the new NSA.

Jonp

Thank you for your service Sen McCain now shut the fuck up and leave already
