Another promise broken [Jonn]

| January 12, 2009

Remember The One and all of the Democrats promising to shut down the Guantanamo detention center as one of their first orders of business? How that was one of the main reasons to vote for Him, since we couldn’t trust McCain to shut it down. Once again, reality has intruded on The One’s agenda according to the Washington Times;

President-elect Barack Obama said Sunday that some of his campaign promises will have to wait – domestic-policy changes may be on hold because of the dire economic situation, and legal and national security concerns have postponed his promised closure of Guantanamo Bay.

In an interview with ABC’s “This Week” that aired Sunday, Mr. Obama said he has come to realize that his pledge to close the federal detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, within his first 100 days in office won’t happen that soon.

One of those pesky realities is that no one wants those detainees back in their own countries. Places like Australia;

The Rudd government has rejected a formal request from the Bush administration to resettle a group of Chinese detained in Guantanamo Bay military prison to Australia.

Reports suggest the Australian government has been warned by Beijing not to take the 17 former terror suspects, who the US have cleared but refuse to send home for fear of their torture and possible execution.

Beijing has made at least two approaches to the Rudd government not to accept the group of Muslims from north-western China, known as Uyghurs.

The governments of Germany and Portugal have contemplated taking some of the terrorists off of Obama’s hands, but their citizens think differently. Especially when they remember folks like Abdallah Salih al-Ajmi;

Abdallah Salih al-Ajmi, 29, whom the US military accused of fighting with the Taliban in Afghanistan and wanting to kill Americans, was involved in one of three suicide bombings that killed seven Iraqi security personnel in Mosul on April 26, Defence Department officials said.

Yeah, but Guantanamo made him that way, right?

Although Obama made the right decision to delay releasing these predators into the wild quite yet, it’s just another of a long list of lies he told just to get elected. Say what you will about George Bush, whether you agree with him or not, we knew what we were getting when we voted for or against him. When an event happened in the world, we knew how he’d react because we could trust what he told us. He didn’t make wild promises he had no intention of keeping just to get elected – unlike the next occupant.

It’s beginning to look like we just elected a Black John McCain, actually. Well, the political equivalence of John McCain – only without the honorable military service and experience. In fact, the Obama team has been doing nothing but lowering the public’s expectations of Obama’s administration since the first day after the elections.

You have to realize, it’s ___________ fault. Insert any name you can come up with, starting with W. It certainly can’t be the Obamunist’s fault. You just have to hate it when reality intrudes on campaign rhetoric.

George made me do it. Honest, I wouldn’t have intentionally lied to my voting public. Trust me, I know what I’m doing. Especially going back on a campaign promise before I’m even inaugurated.
