Shawn Oliger; phony Marine

| January 11, 2017

Comes now the story of Shawn Oliger in Cincinnati, Ohio who fleeced the VA for thousands of dollars. In fact the VA was complicit with him in his endeavor, according to WCPO;

Shawn Oliger, 43, filed an application for disability compensation with the VA in April 2015, the report said. He claimed he had been a Marine from 1990-93 — a period of time during which, a later investigation found, he had been in prison in Arizona.

When the VA could not verify his service, it mailed several documents requesting verification. Although Oliger never completed any of these and his claim was closed, his unverified service was still recorded in VA databases.

When Oliger filed a second claim in November 2015, the Cincinnati VA granted it based on the previously recorded data. Oliger subsequently received a VA identification card, $124,335 in health care benefits — including multiple hospitalizations — and $5,786 in housing assistance.

At Fox19Now, they interview an Iwo Jima veteran and he explains the problem exactly as I would;

[Noah] Switzer told us he was a Hospital Corpsman 1st Class during the Battle of Iwo Jima. All of his sons also served in the military and are veterans. He explained that there are vets in need that could have used the aid.

“They need money and can’t get it. A guy like that comes along and rips off the government for a couple hundred thousand dollars with ease,” Switzer said.

The VA has no comment thus far.

I understand there can be confusion though. I told my mom I was in prison for 24years…woulda broke her heart if she knew I had joined the Navy.

2/17 Air Cav

“The VA” this and “the VA” that. Who processed his claim? Who doubled down on the first mistake? We’ll never know, of course. It’s just “the VA.”

Ret_25X

Correct! A person either knowingly refused to follow the guidelines on proof of service or was too incompetent to follow them correctly.

Either way we are talking about a cull.

Culls must be cut from the herd.

Graybeard

Faceless, Nameless Bureaucracy.

I had to go to the SSA for my brother earlier this week. Sitting for hours in a waiting room with a hundred other folks, watching “SSTV” proclaim the many blessings of Socialist Security (in English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Russian and ASL), while complying with The Rules (No Food. No Drinks. No talking on your phones. Keep your children under control for hours of mindless waiting.)

I was reminded of a scene from the movie “1984”.

VA, SSA – although they have some good people working there, are by nature Faceless, Nameless Bureaucracies. I looked in vain for a name to record for my records who I spoke with and when.

Nope. No names, name tags, business cards, nada; zip; nothin’. If I have to appeal, who do I say helped me? Give a physical description of the individual at the desk and what does that get you?

The government cannot do anything efficiently.

Silentium Est Aureum

They have no reason to. It’s not like they’re going to get fired or anything.

Graybeard

I have to say in all fairness that the individual ladies to whom I spoke at the SSA have been kind, encouraging, and helpful.

I know (because I work in a faceless bureaucracy myself) that there are those who gold brick because they are hard to fire. The rest of us try to minimize their damage.

W2

I hear you IDC SARC. My parents thought I was a piano player in a whore house my entire time in the canoe club. How can you tell them you’re a professional rust picker? The shame.

Just An Old Dog

It shouldn’t be that fucking hard for the VA to simply verify Service.

Silentium Est Aureum

It’s not. But their budget depends on “helping” as many people as they can. If they got rid of the phonies, how many BILLIONS woukd be saved?

Ret_25X

Nope…their budget is based on the number of projected veterans to serve.

Any dollars not spent actually caring for veterans goes into things that reward the bureaucracy—like travel, bonuses, etc.

Also, from an individual basis, if you get paid the same whether you process 1 form or 100, you are going to get 1 per day.

A Proud Infidel®™

What will happen to those responsible for being complicit to Shawn Oliger’s con game, a paid vacation (*OOPS!*, suspension sith pay) along with reassignment elsewhere afterward?

Eden

No, there will probably be no effort whatsoever to identify them, much less deal with their actions.

Bill M

Probably get a bonus at the end of the year.

ex-OS2

Cocksucker.

Tim

I make the same comment on every one of these cases. How many GS-15s at the VA does it take to verify service or lack thereof? While the guy, throat tat and all is a stool, the VA needs to eat another shit sandwich on this one!

CB Senior

That is the problem tooooo many GS-15’s.
That is upper management, not killing themselves by any stretch of the imagination.

Mick

What’s with all of the phony Marines this week?

This is killin’ me…

Graybeard

Everyone wants to be the best even when they are total losers.

So they say they are Marines… I guess because the Marines are more in the news now.

Dave Hardin

Shawn Oliger can suck the snotty end of my phuk stick. He look like a real winner.

For those of you who conflate names (Graybeard) thats SHAWN OLIGER that is scum, I am just making a comment here.

Again, thats SHAWN OLIGER who is scum.

I hope people (Graybeard) understand my caution when posting here these days.

Graybeard

You will notice that I have been studiously avoiding my APB until memories fade.

But I agree:
Shawn Oliger is scum.
Shawn Oliger is not a U.S. Marine.
Shawn Oliger is not worthy of picking up after the Marine’s mascot.
Shawn Oliger would best serve as a marking post for the Marine’s mascot.
Shawn Oliger needs to be put to hard labor, at $1.27/hour, until he pays back all of what he stole plus 20% interest.
The faceless VA bureaucrat who approved his theft needs to be put to hard labor at $0.13/hour, until they match the monies they allowed Shawn Oliger to steal.

Dave Hardin is not Shawn Oliger (he is really Hondo).

A Proud Infidel®™

Shawn Oliger ought to have his nose rubbed in every dropping the USMC Mascot drops before he’s made to pick them up with his bare hands.

Graybeard

Oh, he gets to use his hands?

You are too kind. I was thinking lips.

A Proud Infidel®™

MEH, I was in a kind mood after my third cup of coffee.

Twist

I don’t understand how these fucks get into the system. When I filed my claim they required so much documentation that I’m surprised they didn’t ask for a signed letter from my first Drill Sergeant as well as my first 12 LES’ s.

Sparks

You too eh! Go figure.

Sandman

Neck tattoo,,,legit,,,end of story,,,,NOT!

chooee lee

The VA recently reclassified me from Group 5 to Group 8. This means I am no longer eligible for much if anything in the way of benefite. Since then they have sent me three notices that I need to come in for a physical which I no longer qualify for. I contacted my local clinic to tell them I am no longer eligible as well as calling and talking to the hospital in Battle Creek. In the mean time the notices keep coming. As my old Leading Chief used to say, “Bunch of Rubber Headed Cunts”.

Sparks

Shitbag!

Green Thumb

I imagine this is the tip of the iceberg.

Being that dude looks all felonious and shit.

And I love the neck tattoo!

Noting says credibility like supporting a neck tattoo.

John Robert Mallernee

It might help if Department of Veterans Affairs employees were trained to recognize prison tattoos.

John Robert Mallernee

I remember years ago seeing a news report of tourists visiting the historic Deer Lodge, Montana state prison, after it was closed.

The facility actually included a tattoo parlor where tourists could PAY to get prison tattoos!

David

Who was it who praised the Chinese for making an entire written language out of tattoos?

SFC D

I believe it was Lars.

Pinto Nag

I would be interested in seeing that news report. When I saw the old prison, it was only opened in the summer, and it was dark, dank, smelled of urine, and didn’t even have a place to get a drink of water inside the walls, much less a place to get tattoos. There were areas that were closed off because the structure wasn’t safe. Maybe it’s been refurbished in the last ten years? It’s a horrid old hulk and I, for one, wouldn’t mind seeing it torn down.

John Robert Mallernee

@ PINTO NAG, Et Alii :

It was many, MANY years ago that I saw that news report, so I can’t remember where or when I saw it.

I think they said the tattoo parlor was adjacent to the prison.

I just can’t fathom anybody being so stupid as to PAY money to get a prison tattoo!

Driving on the freeway, the old prison is clearly visible as you pass by downtown Deer Lodge.

I never went there, but merely drove on past the town.

It’s very historic, and I believe it originally served as the territorial prison prior to Montana becoming a state.

I really like Montana, because it’s so wide open, and definitely lives up to its “Big Sky” nickname.

Assclown looks like he’s snarfed down a few thousand cockmeant sammiches with manmayo, a couple of million glasses of ghey whey and about 15 miles of tube steak in his lifetime. Probably queefs when he walks….

Wilted Willy

Where oh where will this all end? How fucking hard is it to verify a DD214? My blind seeing eye dog could figure this asshat was a phony! These fuckers should all be put in prison and let the inmates have their way with them for months. Then go and string them up! God how I hate this assmongers! Please dear Lord, make them all pay!!!

jarhead

This will probably piss off some liberals, but today’s one which the meter is off in our home.
Trouble with all this shit at the VA can be easily seen walking up and down the halls, looking at pictures of such wonderful leaders. Notice anything?

Prospective employee at interview, “How often do I get a vacation? I don’t have to be accountable to anyone but one of my brothers who will cover for me, do I?”

Person doing the interview, “Relax bro. you know we got this and all other VA’s under control. Appoint one of ours as the big cheese and we see that none of the others get in, other than to sweep floors. Don’t worry cuz, it’s OUR revenge. WE run this show, NOT THEM!!!!”

Applicant, “By the way, here’s my card. Don’t get to pull it as much and use it as much these days.”

Person doing the interview, “Shit bro., once you come in here and pull your card, you be hired immediately, no questions asked. We don’t care about your history, your past, your ability (if any) your moral character, your ethics……you don’t need NONE of dat shit around this place. Like I said, WE run this show, just look on the walls and look around.”

If anybody can’t read between the lines and see the TRUTH, then you don’t really need to be wasting your time at the VA. Don’t waste your time or mine feigning the need for an explanation.
