DefendUSA

The sad news comes to us that Martin Admundson has passed. He is the husband of our own DefendUSA, an Army veteran and a long-time participant on this forum (that’s her, in the middle, in the picture above from our “Members’ Gallery”). I met Martin, Denise and their kids years ago at one of the early Tea Party rallies in DC. Martin’s passing was completely unexpected. Someone has set up a GoFundMe account for his family, in the event that you’re led in that direction.

Well, supper was quite lovely. I fixed capunti pasta (rustic short pasta) with dried herb seasoning, bacon and onions, parmesano rusticano, plus some radishes and celery on the side. The pasta comes in packs big enough to feed 4 people, costs less than $2 and the seasonings come with it. I added bacon and onions cut into small pieces to the seasoning when the pasta was cooked, plus some of the olive oil from the frying pan, gave it a good stir, put one good helping on a plate and showered it with parmesano from the microplane, something I bought a very, very long time ago. Added kalamata olives, radishes and celery to my dinner plate, plus a glass of cabernet sauvignon, and had a wonderful dinner for a modest cost.

The wine was one of those single serve California reds, not too shabby, either, at a price of $1.25 for the single serve bottle.
The pasta comes in a pack sufficient for four servings, at $2.49. I have enough left for at least three more meals.
The onion was 1/4 of a red onion sauteed with the bacon to transparency. 3lbs of onions for $1.25.
Bacon was three strips cut into one-inch pieces, $2.99/lb, so the cost was about $.35.
The parmesano rusticano was a wedge I keep using, planed off about a half cup, for $0.15.

Altogether, I’d say this dinner cost me approximately $3.25. Not bad, not bad at all. And of course, I had a good book to read: The Toll Gate. And I’m full.

Defend, you take it one day at a time, one task at a time, with occasional pauses to reflect on and remember the good stuff.

“I don’t know how to do this…” When my Dad died at age 55, my mother said nearly the exact same words to me. She did it, she got through it because family and friends helped to carry the impossible load. The way seems narrow and dark but more and more your burden will ease and there will be light.

DefendUSA

I am surely trying…push ups help because sometimes I just don’t want to cry…my arms are going to be cut!! 🙂

Our condolences and prayers for you and your family, DefendUSA. May God’s mercies and protections follow you the rest of your days, and the warming memories of your husband’s love for you brighten all of them.

DefendUSA

“Currahee” is a word that makes me smile and puff out my chest just a tiny bit because I will stand alone in the near future…an “I can do” kind of thing…though I am not alone…it will only feel that way…it still gives me strength…:)
