Juan J. Gonzalez; embellishing sheriff
Juan J. Gonzalez is running for sheriff in Kleberg County, Texas and some controversy was raised over some of his claims of his military service. He was handing out these cards;
The problem is that he never deployed to Desert Storm while he was in the Navy. According to KRISTV;
Although he didn’t actually deploy for combat in Desert Storm, Gonzalez says that quote being a “Desert Storm Veteran” may not be what it seems. Actually, it means,”That anyone who served on active duty from August 2nd 1990 to present, is considered also a Gulf War Veteran,” Gonzalez said.
Although he was never deployed into that war, he was active duty during that era, from September of 1987 until April of 1994. “I never claimed to have war combat experience never, I’m just a Gulf War Era Veteran,” he said.
Yeah, no. I served during the Vietnam War, but I’m not a Vietnam veteran and if I called myself a Vietnam veteran, I’d be rightly called out for lying about my service. I’m also not a Grenada veteran or a Panama veteran or a Somalia veteran – I served during those conflicts, but I wasn’t there.
He also said that he is a Purple Heart recipient. Although it is never made clear where or how he received this medal.
Gonzalez received the Purple Heart Medal during his service with the Kingsville Police Department.
Gonzalez then questioned if where the Purple Heart came from really made a difference. “A purple heart is a Purple Heart,” he said.
If he meant for people to understand that he received the medal during his career as a policeman, he would have said that, not put it where it could be easily misunderstood and misinterpreted on campaign literature.

Kleburg County – despite being the home of the King Ranch and the place where my lovely bride was raised – is nonetheless a cesspool of (D) politicians who will support anyone with a Spanish surname and drive out anyone else.
So – His wetback (D) voters will give him a pass on this because raaccizm.
I just can’t understand why these assholes have to take a dump on a decent record that any normal person would be proud of? We are the few that did serve and do our job, even if it wasn’t in combat killing people! Just like my brother, just because all he did was make false teeth, that wasn’t good enough, he had to spend his lifetime shitting all over a normal record. He at least stopped there from being a lot of toothless troops running around gumming their MRE’s! Of course maybe a few of them would have been very popular with just being able to gum it? Someday when he is in prison, he can have a whole new MOS??? But of course, it doesn’t make up for his federal prison sentence for defrauding a bunch of old retirees out of their lifes savings???
CHINGA TE Juan J. Gonzalez!!! YOU had “Purple Heart Recipient” printed on your cards SANS any indication it wasn’t Military-related. COMIDA MIERDA, hijo de la puta grande!!
If you watch the video, he says in the debate “I’m a Desert Storm Veteran, Desert Shield, Liberation of Kuwait, Purple Heart Recipient, Honorably Discharged Veteran…” he knew what he was doing when he brought up the purple heart. He knew people would think he got it from military combat. I wonder where his “typo” excuse is for the comments that came out of his own mouth.
Any “Honor” he had a discharge is long gone now.
Agreed. This a-hole knew exactly what he was doing.
He can go to hell for all I care. Preferably sooner rather than later.
Hey he has that “(D)” after his name, he can tell any lie he wants and the rest of the (D)s and their ilk, including the media will ignore it. Here in CA ol’ Gov. Gray Davis (D) used campaign photos and literature implying he was humping a radio with line infantry troops in RVN. In fact, he was a signal corps officer and full time REMF for his entire limited tour. They always embellish (lie) about their service, look at ol’ LBJ’s WWII stories.
Just checked out the video did you see how the chair he was sitting in was shaking during the interview? He knows that he was caught lying and was shitting his pants trying to “correct the record” about his service in the Navy and as a cop.
Grade “A” shitbird…
I noticed the same thing also. You can tell he was nervous as hell. Shaking and rocking back and forth. Hot Seat time. Unfortunately, this faker will probably be elected. I seriously doubt his police purple heart. Im sure he either bought it or stole it from his previous department and had his records changed. What a total dick!!
If I were an investigative journalist, I would be interested in digging a little further into Juan J. Gonzalez’ background to see what other… irregularities.. might be discovered.
There may be more to his shaking in his chair than just being caught out in this.
Stolen Valor. The cherry on the shit sundae.
And a rancid cherry at that.
My unit watched desert storm on CNN while sitting on our asses at Ft. Ord because we were “light” infantry. We all had some friends in the units downrange.
Guess I’ll have to update my records to include Gulf War Veteran!
What an asshat!
Me too! I watched it on CNN from my room in the barracks at Fort Lewis.
It’s like Oprah: “YOU’RE a Gulf War veteran! and YOU’RE a Gulf War Veteran! Gulf War Veteran status for EVERYBODY!”
I watched it on CNN while in the DEP. Am I a GOLF WAR VETERAN? YEEHAAH.
Well, if he wasn’t IN the Gulf War but claimed he was a Gulf War Veteran, then I suppose anyone who was alive during the Gulf War, whether in service or not, can also lay claim to being a Gulf War vet. And that Purple Heart? I understand what he means. It’s akin to saying you have a Silver Star–when you are talking about a Christmas decoration.
I busted the balls of a former Coastie who likes to say he is a VN Vet even though he never left NC. He stammered that the VA said he was. I reminded him that the VA says he is a VN ERA Vet. He shut up.
Don’t start me on that shit. It gets me nuts. MFers who did everything in their power to stay out of service and then, when that was unlikely, joined outfits that had little or no chance of going to a shooting war now say they are VN Vets. And they all have the ball cap to prove it.
Desert Storm. That’s what I should have written above. What HE should have written is Dessert Storm–as in he took the dessert tray by storm. He is certainly a cannolli or two over the line.
I know you probably don’t choose specific ads, and they help pay the bills,
but man, that flashing ad at the upper left is making it hard to read stuff today.
Thanks!
How come I’m not getting flashed?
You’re to old & ugly for the girls to flash you.
With all due respect. (And I’m not getting flashed either.)
You are more than welcome to the obnoxious flashing that is annoying this computer.
I’m not able to view the video, but I think I’m probably okay with the police purple heart bit of it–assuming they’re awarded in similar circumstances.
There’s also nothing wrong with not having an adventurous career in the military. Uncle Sam has a plan for all of us, and I accept that his plan for me involved cubicles. Folks should own it. Actually, I wonder if I can get a license plate or frame with the purple (homebody) GWOT ribbon on it, to show some real stay-home pride. lol.
In the video, during a debate, he says “I’m a Desert Storm Veteran, Desert Shield, Liberation of Kuwait, Purple Heart Recipient, Honorably Discharged Veteran…” If he wasn’t trying to claim that he got the PH for combat in the military, why would he stick it in the middle of his claims about the military.
Heh. He could have been in a car crash while chasing a bad guy. That’s immediately what I thought of when I read that he received the Purple Heart. Didn’t everyone? Sarcasm aside, I wonder whether he rec’d a Law Enforcement Purple heart and, if so, what for?
Honestly, and I say this as a former cop, it really irks me that departments often call their awards for being wounded in the line of duty a “Purple Heart”. Seeing tubby behind the desk, he probably got it tripping on his way into the local Donut Shop.
I want one with a Good Conduct Medal.
John–sometimes the system encourages this behavior. When I buried my father in a national cemetery in 2011, they included the Vietnam War on his headstone. I explained to them that my father was a B-52 mechanic based at some of greatest northern tier bases during his 20 years but he never deployed to SEA during the war. They said it didn’t matter because he was in the service during that timeframe so the Vietnam War remained on his headstone.
The VA is encouraging these false honors and sending a clear message that you can consider yourself a war veteran just by being in the service during a specific time. I agree completely with you, I count myself as a vet only for those operations where I actually deployed. Is the VA too lazy to check actual deployment records or are they becoming like today’s youth sports–everyone gets a trophy for participating?
“I’m a VN Veteran.”
“But you never left the states, did you?”
“No, but when I die, my tombstone will read Vietnam Veteran.”
“Okay, MFer, then die. Until then, you were not a Vietnam Veteran!”
??? I was in during the Vietnam war, but my entire enlistment was in CONUS. I have VA coverage; but I have co-payments. I am pretty sure that is because I am not considered a Vietnam Vet by the VA.
Service during times of war or conflict and service in that war or conflict for purposes of determining certain benefits should NEVER, EVER be confused and most especially not by military Veterans. Besides, you are not a Vietnam Vet unless you have a ball cap that says so.
Or a vest, a really cool motorcycle vest.
That takes it to the next level. The vest has to be emblazoned with 1st Cav patch, Ranger tab, Trident, or Marine Force Recon. No question.
Don’t forget the obligatory POW/MIA patch on the vest.
And a salty tiger stripe camo boonie cover with assorted poser bling all over it to top off the rakish ensemble.
Nothing says “Bad Ass” quite like a leather motorcycle vest and a boonie cover.
Dog man! DOG! Gotta have a dog!
Hey! Stop picking on those of us that have vests and motorcycles. A few of us have patches on our vests that we actually earned or experienced. Although, I don’t have a Ranger tab on my vest or the SF tab, but I earned both. So I guess I just don’t measure up to the high bar set by the stolen valor biker gangs. Shucks, maybe I should claim the dreaded PTSD and get me a service dog.
That’s because all of the losers bought up those patches.
Were there any Marine units in Vietnam other than Force Recon? I never see anyone sporting a 1st FSSG Vietnam patch, so maybe they never had any bulk fuelmen, motor transport or radio maintenance personnel assigned there.
Does the vest rank higher than the tattoo though? 😉
I would say yes but I appreciate that others may so no. The vest requires a bike. I am trying to avoid the word “investment” but I’m having a difficult time of it. Any schmo can get a tat. Not so The vest.
Yes. The vest ranks higher. From what I have seen here, I think you can substitute a service dog for the bike, if you don’t have the cash or the cajones for the bike. But the substitution requires a flag dew-rag (US, Confederate, or camo)as an accessory.
Forgot about the flag dew rag! LOL. The Coastie guy I mentioned has one. And a vest mit POW patch. No dog though. Yet.
Frikkin’ VESTS!!! I was at a commemorative ceremony one day when I came across one Biker type sporting a vest with a LOAD of Military “Bling” pins all over it, I asked when he served in Vietnam, what Unit he was in and his reply was “It’s been so long I can’t remember.” I didn’t want to fuck up the atmosphere there by outing him on the spot despite my temptation to thus I followed the thought in my head that was “STFU for now, Infidel!”. I’m sure that critter will one day be featured on some SV web pages, he might even make it onto TAH, I’ll keep my eyes open,,,
Hossman, I went thru the same situation.
My Dad passed away when I was deployed and not did I miss his funeral, but could not visit his gravesite until I returned.
I was shocked and horrified when I saw the VA Marker listing him as a Vietnam Veteran. He never went there. We were living in the States, France and Germany during that time period.
I confronted my Siblings as to why they did that. I also called the VA. They told me that ANYONE who served during the Vietnam timframe/Era, ANYONE, is entitled to have that on their VA Headstone whether they deployed or not.
IMO, that is a slap in the face for all those who did deployed. The VA needs to get with the program or at least change a VA Marker to read “VIETNAM ERA”, not VIETNAM.
If this “S–t” continues, that means that alot of us could have on our VA Markers that we were Korea,Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Desert Storm/Shield, OEF, OIF Veterans (did I leave any other Combat conflicts out?).
To this day, I still have extended family members who thought my Dad was deployed to Vietnam because of that marker and had to tell them the truth.
I’ve been trying for years with the VA to have that marker removed. And I’m not going to give up.
That isn’t going to happen, AnotherPat. It’s government and it’s the VA. The most that you can realistically hope for is to get a bill through that would require notices to be posted on all VA cemeteries that tells people that Veterans who served during time of war or armed conflict are designated Veterans of that war or armed conflict, whether or not they served in the war or conflicted noted on their marker.
Thanks, 2/17 Air Cav for making that recommondation. ??
Doubt that the VA is going to change the policy they have always used. The headstones reflect the war in which the veteran served and has nothing whatever to do with combat status.
Not sure when the division among vets who had and had not seen combat got so rabid, but it has not always been that way.
“Really?
Just because you served on Active Duty during the Gulf War does NOT make you a Gulf War Veteran and especially NOT a Desert Storm Vet. Typo’s my ass, you just thought no one would call you on your bullshit. Were the statements made by you during the debate about being a Desert Storm/Desert Shield, Liberation of Kuwait Vet typos too? And following that up with a purple heart comment, you knew people would associate it with wartime service.
Guys like you are the worst type of fraud, you had a perfectly honorable period of service and you had to shit all over it with your embellishment. At least the guys who never served and lie have the excuse of never being taught better. Hope your proud of yourself, Blue Falcon.
You’ve made the front page of the largest and most popular Stolen Valor blog in the country. Google your name and sheriff and its literally the second option that comes up.
http://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=68536
Enjoy your infamy, asshat.”
Just sent him that email. Since he’s a public servant his work email is public record. Reach out and let him know how ya feel: jgonzalez111@klebergcoso.org
Replying to my own post with an update. So he answered my email and wants me to call him, so he can explain to me how it wasn’t his intent to steal valor. I asked him if it wasn’t his intent, why would he SAY he was a “Desert Storm/Desert Shield/Liberation of Kuwait” veteran when he knew he was never part of said operations. Also asked why he didn’t send the cards back for a refund or at least cross out the “Desert Storm Veteran” line before he gave any out. If it was a “typo” that it said “Desert Storm” veteran instead of “Gulf War Era” veteran, like he claims it was, why would he distribute them anyways?
Having taken calls from these frauds before, I told him I wasn’t gonna waste my time listening to his excuses. Civilian may buy the “misunderstanding” line but vets can smell bullshit like that a mile away.
I told him if he feels the need to explain himself he can do so here. Also told him he should do the right thing, man up and apologize while he still has some honor left.
So if your reading this comment, Deputy, explain your intent here for all vets to see.
What do you mean IF? Damn straight he either is here, has been here, or will be here. He may or may not comment but there’s no way he isn’t going to peek.
So, Juan J. Gonzalez, now you know what it means to be a liar and a Stolen Valor Thief in the age of the internet.
No compañeros to cover for you like they do in Kleburg, Vato.
Hopefully there are enough people in Kleberg County that will read this TAH site and spread the word about this lying SoS.
Ya figure, if he’s willing and able to shade the truth (lie!) to get elected, what will he do to shade the law (lie!) against the citizens of the county?
There are (or were) plenty of good folks, Hispanic and non-Hispanic, in Kleburg County last time I was down there.
They deserve an honest sheriff, not John J. Gonzalez.
I served with a Lt j.g Juan Gonzalez (can’t recall middle initial) on a cruiser and we did deploy for the war. The dude looks just like him. He would have earned all the deployment goodies but the Purple Heart is nonsense. Would be nice to see his dd214 to settle matters cleanly
Purple Heart is from the sheriff’s department. Although in the video, in a debate, he says “Desert Storm Veteran/Desert Shield, Liberation of Kuwait, Purple Heart Recipient, Honorably Discharged Veteran.” He knew it wasn’t from the military but he shoved it into the middle of his military claims.
And he said he never served in combat or deployed to war. He admits he’s only a Gulf War Era Vet after he was called out.
“Purple Heart is from the sheriff’s department.” That’s what he said, I understand. Is there independent proof of that?
Other than a picture in the video, I haven’t seen anything. And it should be noted that he only claimed it was from the Sheriff department after he got called out on his bullshit.
Uh-oh. It seems to me that if he did receive an LE PH, the job he wants would almost scream “Mention me!” Failing that, I gotta wonder…
PH from KPD after he was assaulted with his own flash light.
I am a Penn-Madonna Era veteran. Ahh the good ole days when Shawn Penn assaulted Madonna.
Penn beat her, gagged her and strapped her to an armchair for nine hours. He might be the only man to effectively get her to STFU…at least for a while.
Still looking for pictures and video of that conflict. Willing to pay.
Turd.
“Law Enforcement Purple Heart – The Police Purple Heart is issued to officers who are injured or disabled in the line of duty. Purple Heart recipients are eligible if they were required to seek professional medical attention and were out of work at least one week.” From Nat’l Association of Chiefs of Police website. Of course, each state or, presumably, each jurisdiction within a state can also have a Law Enforcement/EMT/Fire Purple Heart and can set their own standards. Try as I have, I cannot find a record or mention through Google of this candidate’s receiving one. I can’t say that he didn’t, of course, but it sure would be nice if he just stated when, where, and from whom he rec’d his claimed Purple Heart.
Maybe he and Chevyliar fought over a block of cheese. If so, that would explain 2 LE Purple Hearts
There are things worth dying for and, certainly, a five-pound block of quality cheddar is one of them.
For smoked cheddar it would only have to be a 1 lb block.
You can have my smoked cheddar when you pry it from my cold, dead hands!
Speaking of Shitbag Chevaliar, One of his claims is that he got an award for valor from some Community college he worked at for disarming a guy with a knife who was threatening a teacher who gave his girlfriend a bad grade.
As “proof” the shitbag has a picture of an awards ceremony.
He is in a police uniform off to one side and he is clearly not the one being given the award.
If you zoom in on the award you can see he whited out the letters on it with paintshop in case anyone could see the real name.
Fucking loser. By the way his latest marriage is ended. She took the dog as well.
That’s really a bitch when you lose your service dog to the bitch when you are a phony warrior getting a divorce.
I don’t think it was a service dog. That’s one low that Heavy Chevy AKA the Fort Worth Cock-mole hasn’t stooped to…yet.
Since this last Marriage lasted all of three months I would bet that everything they had, other than Fuck Faces boxes of fake degrees and awards were hers to begin with, including the Dog.
Maybe it was an Honorary Purple Heart.
Note that an injury in the line of duty would include getting hit by a bus while directing traffic, falling down steps while serving a subpoena, or tripping over a curb while on foot patrol, among other things.
Look, if this fellow received a nat’l, state, or local Purple Heart for an injury incurred while a police officer, he should say so clearly and w/o hesitation. It’s that simple. Outside of LE, who knows about a police Purple Heart? Say “Purple Heart” and 100% of folks will immediately understand that to mean military.
Cocksucker.
I know one guy that says he is a “vietnam era veteran” and is quite clear that he never deployed but served during the time frame. How hard it that?
I mean, shit, my unit deployed to Grenada but I didn’t missing out on the last rotation in. Should I claim I served with guys that deployed somewhere and almost went as I was in the last rotation that was cancelled? Where is my rack candy?
Desert Storm Veteran right!! I was on Shore Duty, I got the NDSM, no more no less.
We could probably guess the local Mexican-American votes will be extremely helpful to this guy. But those who would knowingly vote for this fraud would be the same UN-educated morons who would vote for Shillery. “Came out with a typo” and “It wasn’t very clear”….what kind of pure bullshit is that? Bub, you’re sorry ONLY that you got caught. Seriously folks, what kind of Sheriff would normal law-abiding people want to serve them? Not the type who would begin a campaign by cards with printed lies, and worse yet, preach the same lies on stage during a debate. A Sheriff with a bowel movement for brains???? So how many of his cases with convictions are going to be wasted when his testimony during trials is found to be fecal matter? Think about it people. And while you’re contemplating, give thought to an old Reba song, “That’s The Night That The Lights Went Out In Georgia”. Big ‘Ol Thomas Reister type sheriff who says, “Why’d You Do It Boy?” Follow that with Reba’s final warning, “Don’t Trust Yourself To No Backwards Southern Lawyer” My point here is this is the making of another potential “That’s The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia” theme event if a crooked sheriff is in charge. All my own humble opinion. Course all of us thoroughly resent the damned arrogant liar trying to get elected any way possible. For we KNOW the sacrifices involved when one honorably and proudly earns one of the two medals this unconscionable b. s. artist has tried to swindle the voters with. I do not live there and will not be affected if this liar is elected. My heart will be affected for several years every time I hear mention of Kleburg County, Tx….knowing if this clown was elected, there will be fights over fair and honorable justice. We’ve become a country of politicians and bureaucrats taking care of themselves first and foremost. The tipping point has finally arrived where WE work for THEM……..and they damned well know it. I admire CA_SGT for having the good sense to not waste… Read more »
