SSG Adam Thomas KIA in Afghanistan
The other day we reported the death of a US service member during operations against ISIS in eastern Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province in the Achin district near the Pakistan border. Today he’s been identified as Staff Sergeant Adam Thomas of Takoma Park, Maryland assaigned to the 10th Special Forces Group. From the Denver Post;
Thomas, an eight-year member of the Army, was supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
Thomas entered the Army in April 2008, according to Fort Carson, and had deployed to Iraq in 2008 and to Afghanistan for two tours — one in 2011 and another in June.
Thomas was the recipient of a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, multiple Army Commendation medals and the National Defense Service Medal, among other accolades.
He was killed by an IED in operations against ISIS. ISIS has taken credit for his death.

RIP young Soldier.
Your work here is done.
Godspeed to him and God bless his family members left here to remember him.
Prayers for his family, gratitude for his service.
RIP.
I am sorry for this loss and I am sorry that any of our military are today in any country in the ME. This is a horrible waiting game. No one tells us what we are actually accomplishing or aiming to accomplish in those shitholes. We wait, knowing an IED or suicide bomber will take another of our people. It is sick and it is wrong and it makes me very angry. This soldier did his duty and he is to be honored for doing the impossible on behalf of the ungrateful. God rest his soul and comfort his family, friends, and fellow troopers.
I so agree 2/17 Air Cav.
I see little, little upside for our being there. Oloser is simply waiting for January so he can exit with a bogus story about how we won/are winning/whatever.
Rest in peace young brother. God be with your family.
Achin was always a shithole. When I was there it was the land no one wanted to go to because it was so bad there. It is also another area that borders the Tora Bora (one of Bin Laden’s hideouts) mountain range and on the other side is Pakistan. Tora Bora mountains were an easy route into Afghanistan because the border couldn’t be tracked as easily.
RIP brother.
Rest easy, young Soldier. You accomplished much in a short time. Your country and military family owe you many thanks.
RIP, Staff Sergeant.
You’ve earned your rightful place in Valhalla SSgt. Rest well now and peace be to your family.
RIP Brother.
Sadness
Too young. This is sad.
I have a son with the 10th SFG – tried calling him today….no luck.
Excuse me for being somewhat self-centered….my prayers are with SSGT Thomas and his family.
May he rest in peace.
Rest in peace Quiet Professional.
De Oppresso Liber
Damn.
Prayers that this young Soldier`s loved ones will find peace.
Can someone please define our mission over there?
WTF is going on?
We either fight Isis in places like Afghanistan and Syria or you’ll be fighting them in the shopping malls and elementary schools of America.
