Emanuel: Chicago needs “stiffer laws”
This past weekend, the city of Chicago passed it’s 500th victim from gun violence, so the mayor Rahm Emanuel decided, being a legislator, that Chicago needs more gun laws, reports Fox News;
“It is a complex problem with multidimensional facets to it,” Mayor Rahm Emanuel said on Friday of Chicago’s homicide rate. “It’s not just about more police, but it will include that. But it’s also about more resources for our children, more resources for our neighborhoods and stiffer laws that reflect the values of our city.”
Keep in mind that Chicago has run all of the legal gun dealers out of the city, it’s nearly impossible for anyone to legally own a firearm within the city limits, but somehow, making tougher gun laws, that will solve it’s problems. After Emanuel made that statement on Friday, 69 people more were shot, six fatally. None of the suspects are legal gun owners.

Chicago guns laws are strict only regarding legal purchases. Penalties for illegal possession are, at this point,a joke. Gang banger caught with a gun, average time in jail is six months. Gang banger felon with a gun, average time is still less than a year. And that’s only if the charge makes it to court.
Believe I read a while back that the prosecution rate for federal gun crimes in Chicago ranked it as something on the order of 79th on the list of major cities. Funny, it’s the country’s murder capital and shooting gallery, but almost 80 other cities prosecute more people for gun crimes.
Well, there is the prospect that if those using guns illegally were federally prosecuted, and convicted, Obama would just commute their sentences. He has a history of doing that.
That said, it’s already against the law to murder someone, shoot them, assault them, for a felon to possess a gun, or even the ammo, and for anyone younger than 21 to possess a handgun. What other laws are going to make a difference?
So, if the citizens kill a bunch of fellow citizens, the answer is more resources, which is govspeak for money. it sounds like incentive to me to kill even more citizens.
Chicago used to be a nice place to live.
Now, it’s not even a nice place to visit.
Needs a new mayor who has a working brain instead of an echo chamber.

I am ashamed to say that I agree with that assessment. I was in Chicago just a couple of weeks ago … and they don’t print enough money to get me to go to the South Side. Hell, the area in my old neighborhood (and around Wrigley Field) was tense enough. Maybe it’s the fact that I’ve lived south of Atlanta for the last 40+ years, but I felt out of place in my own home town. What Chicago needs (in addition to a Cubs World Series win) is leadership that is grounded in reality. Not the current administration, or even a return of the original Daley administration (though nobody ever gave the city any crap when Richard J. Daley was mayor). Time for a real leader to take charge, and run the vermin out of town.
Oh, and while I’m dreaming … I’d like a pony, too.

Frankly, I see more and more upticks in plain old criminal behavior by teens every day. But then, you do hav to ask why a group of 13-year-old girls are out on the streets at 1AM? And it appears that it’s for the sole purpose of beating the crap out of other people who are stupid enough to be out that late walking the dog.
FWIW, every summer a group of teen from our church travels to Chicago to hold a sports outreach in some of the… less pleasant areas of Chicago. One of our staff even worked there for several years in a youth ministry.
Judging by the folks they work with, there are some good and honorable folks in the bad parts of town working to bring hope to these children and teens on the street. But they do still get inside the church & lock the doors at dusk – not the least because our teens are, shall we say, lighter hued than the folks in that neighborhood.
If Chicago turns around, it will be because of the good folks still there. Not because Rahmjet rhams some legislation through again.
Don’t use Libtard speak like “gun violence” because that is incorrect. The issue is minority gang violence that is tolerated by not only Chicago local government but by the Feds. Even the mention of the problem is a gigantic illogical strawman.

Like all other cities with tremendous numbers of criminal shootings, it is overwhelmingly Blacks younger than 35 who are being shot and who are doing the shooting. That’s the way it is. Stay out of Chicago’s all-Black neighborhoods and you are relatively safe. Nearly 3000 shootings with more than 500 dead. That’s a lot of lead flying, figuring at least 10 rounds for every shooting and not counting discharges where no one was hit. BlackLivesMatter?

Under heading ‘Clueless Children’, I found this interview by Neil Cavuto from last year, regarding that ‘million march’ thingy over student loan debt, etc. This Keely Mullen is absolutely clueless, and despite Cavuto’s asking her direct questions about things like 100% tax on ‘the rich’ (whoever they are), she simply does not understand what he’s talking about. It is quite painful to watch this dimwitted young woman trying to justify her demands. I’m sure she means well, but if she is typical of many in her generation, and I think she is, then the entire percent that she represents have doomed themselves to ‘Busboy!’
Now, understand that I’m not referring to the very bright young kids who are getting full scholarships (NOT loans) for STEM universities and colleges. I live next door to a family whose daughter has a full engineering scholarship to a very high-end university. No loans. No debt. Just effing common sense.
But the others represented by this Keely Mullen are dumber than a bag of bent nails.

What I liked about this was the restraint that Cavuto showed and how he kept at her until she showed how completely clueless she is.
That’s why I said it was painful to watch. She said she comes from a working class family, but didn’t define that. Working class is anyone who earns a paycheck.
Then she drifts off, changes the subject and Cavuto brings her right back to it, and she is clueless.
I did a bit of digging on this because it just did not sit right with me. If we’re going to talk about stolen valor, this is even worse than some other stuff we’ve seen. Ms. Mullen, who claimed in her interview that her family was struggling to just get by, lied her ass off.
She is one of the 1% she detests.
Her father is Steve Mullen, a lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), who paid $1 million a couple of years ago for a house in the northern ‘burbs.

The fact that she flat-out lied to an interviewer on a major network, that she put herself in the same socio-economic level as the kids who ARE going to a 2-year school with STEM-prep classes (local college) that will transfer their credits to a 4-year school and help them get scholarships instead of loans, like my neighbor’s kid, is right up there with the rest of the SV crowd. Now a degree in commercial art, which includes CGI graphics and prepress production, is a practical application. I freelanced in that for several years and supported myself nicely. That used to be a DM rate in the Navy. CG animation is a growing art field, too, one, which pays quite well. But that is the practical application of a degree in art.

Agree … there are many degrees ending in BA that lend themselves to a productive life. I have such a degree, a BA in History. I got it after retirement and only b/c I freaking love history. I knew I could never sell it and didn’t want to. I would never want to be a history teacher.

Let me break it down for ya. He’s pretty much saying he doesn’t have a clue. And you know his solution to the problem is to confiscate every firearm, regardless of ownership.
It’s also code for “If only we threw additional hundreds of billions/trillions of dollars at the problem, we could solve it.”
