Marine_7002 sends us the sad news that Joe Hosteen Kellwood, a Navajo code talker, has passed at the tender age of 95. He served with the 1st Marine Division at Cape Gloucester, Peleliu and Okinawa.

The Marine Corps tweeted out a video of Kellwood singing the Marine Corps’ Hymn in his native language;

From Arizona Central;

In 1942, at age 21, he joined the Marines leaving behind the Navajo Nation and the dusty trails of home.

He told his sister, Da’ahijigaagoo deya, or, “I’m going to war.”

Kellwood passed just three days after his brother, Ron, passed at 101 years old.

Rest in Peace, my brother..

B Woodman

Rest in Peace.
From one communicator to a senior brother.

Thunderstixx

The stuff that legends are made of.
RIP Warrior, you have earned it.

Graybeard

Those were men.

Contrast and compare with the butthurt SJWs of today…

Veritas Omnia Vincit

With their hipster doofus beards and staches and their fucking skinny jeans….skinny jeans!!

What the fuck kind of man can wear skinny jeans after the age of 14? These fuckers are in their 20s and 30s wearing skinny jeans….their arms are smaller than my teenage granddaughter who could probably kick their asses because she’s a softball player and killer with the bat…

That’s why they’re always whining they’re little bitches dressed up as men.

Graybeard

As opposed to my manly beard and ‘stach, I hope. 🙂

I read something by a guy who had a 12-hour layover in Tokyo, where he saw 20-ish year old males dressed as children with pacifiers in their mouths. What happened in the land of the samurai?

Bill M

And man-buns.

Ex-PH2

Well, you see, guys, they’ve all had it drilled into them that if they’re skinny now and stay skinny, they’ll somehow live longer. (No, they won’t.) They follow strict vegan tofu buffalo crap chewing choices, never drink anything but bottled water, eschew the pleasurable things in life, etc., ad nauseum.
What they refuse to acknowledge is that they are mortal, and that some day, no matter what they do, their hair and teeth will fall out, they’ll lose what little muscle tone they ever may have had, they’ll develop a paunch and a slouch, and they’ll have lousy sex lives.
But also, some day, they’ll wake up and say ‘Damn! I could have had that steak I really wanted instead of tofu garbled buffalo chips’ and then they’ll die.

Because no matter what you do, you’re still gonna die. It’s in your genes.

So you might as well enjoy the living hell out of life while you have a chance, and no regrets.

Just how many languages do you know, Ex-PH2?

Ex-PH2

Well, that’s Gaelic. I thought something tribal might be appropriate. I know three languages pretty well, the rest are bits and pieces that I’ve picked up here and there.

And then, it’s always fun to invent a language.

Graybeard

Irish Gaelic? It strikes me as that.

I once saw a learn-a-language book & DVD for Gaelic, and intended to go back & buy it. It was gone when I got back to the store and I never saw one again.

Sparks

Rest in peace old warrior.

Truer warriors never existed. Amazing men.
I dated a Navajo girl years ago. Her grandfather was a codetalker. I was always in awe of the man but I never felt comfortable around him. I told her “I don’t think Shinali likes me”. She said “he likes you, but if you were a Marine, he’d love you”.

Here’s a solid resource, published in 1946, that describes the Indian (today, Native American) contributions to the war. It’s worth the time.

One of the old Scoutmasters I worked with was an Anzio vet who was a code-talker comm Sgt, but not Navajo. It was one of the Eastern Tribes. (Assiniboine? I’m not sure.)

I’ve never found documentation or recognition of other code-talkers, although I’ve heard of them. Not to detract from the Navajo heroes, but to recognize the others.

Check out that resource I posted above. You might find him listed for something or other. It isn’t solely about the Navajo Code Talkers.

Proud and True from a Race of Warriors that dates back to the beginning of time.
