Switzerland doesn’t like EU’s scary black rifle ban

| September 1, 2016

Reuters reports that the European Union plans to restrict ownership of scary black rifles among it’s members in order to keep those guns out of the hands of terrorists, but the Swiss aren’t fond of the idea because it will restrict ownership among their own veterans;

[T]he initial proposal provoked an outcry in Switzerland because it meant a ban on the long Swiss tradition of ex-soldiers keeping their assault rifles.

Then, two months ago, Justice Minister Simonetta Sommaruga returned from meetings in Brussels saying she had successfully negotiated against such a ban. But the fine print was more complicated: EU members demanded concessions including psychological tests and club membership.

Swiss gun rights proponents are now complaining this could disarm thousands of law-abiding citizens and that it would encroach on Switzerland’s heritage and national identity that includes a well-armed citizenry.

The article says that the Swiss are the most heavily armed Europeans with 48% of households containing weapons, mostly of the variety that the Left find most scary. The Swiss have a long history of depending on a citizen-militia for homeland defense. The article also admits that even though the Swiss own more guns, instances of gun-related crime in the country are low – that supports my contention that it isn’t a gun availability problem – there’s a cultural element to the discussion that we need to have.

“there’s a cultural element to the discussion” – you are such a WAYCISS!!

If we are all capable of ignoring that 12% of the population commits 50% of the crimes – which then complains that that is solely because no one arrests white criminals – we can ignore anything.

David

I guess the Swiss fail to grasp the concept that because there are other people out there who misuse guns, they must be restricted and denied their own guns. Must not be progressive there.

SCREW the EU AND the NWO! and the UN!!!

Hey!
Two of my rifles are not black!
Both are Rock River Arms, AR10 and AR15, with match grade shiny free floated barrels and coated lower receivers.

What you want me to do? Discriminate against them?

Racissss!!!111

Stay strong, Switzerland!

Hondo

Hmm. Wonder if this might eventually lead to Swexit?

Hayabusa

Switzerland is not part of the EU. They are, however, part of the Schengen system (allowing visa-free travel between member states). I’m not sure how that impacts their domestic gun laws, but whatever.

B Woodman

Switzerland not part of the EU? Well, that just derailed my suggestion for them to do a Swexit. But it’s even better, now they don’t have to go through the fuss and the muss, they can just go tell the EU to “Stuff It”!
Oh, and they’re keeping our guns.

B Woodman

Oops

“keeping THEIR guns.”

Ex-PH2

Well, technically, the Swiss don’t have to follow the Schengen convention. They do it out of courtesy, but there is absolutely nothing stopping them from closing their borders and demanding passports of people entering their sovereign state.
And wouldn’t that just toss a massive monkey wrench into things….

Yef

The European Union will not allow such Schengenigans.

2banana

It is ironic how the EU follows the same policies as Hitler.

Who also tried to unite Europe.

Stacy0311

Yeah the 2 nations who tried to unite Europe previously (Napoleonic France and Nazi Germany) were vilified, but now they’re leading the EU.
I guess they just went about it the wrong way……
Bureaucrats not bombs

History repeats itself, over and over and over, the NWO has the same agenda, so does the hilldabeast, the obozo etc!!

Combat Historian

Switzerland is not even in the EU, but follows EU rules because it adheres to the Schengen Convention on European Borders. Switzerland should (and MUST) tell the EU and its lackeys to go FUCK THEMSELVES and abandon this EU/Schengen crap and necessarily defend its own borders and values…

Reaperman

Or Switzerland, being its own nation, could simply start ignoring certain EU “laws.” If the EU decides they don’t like it, they’ll just have to decide how much they don’t like it for themselves.

Perry Gaskill

Or they could say, “Molon labe, Brussels boy…”

The Other Whitey

Will Swexit follow Brexit?

Hondo

One can only hope – though, as CH points out above, technically the Swiss don’t seem to be a EU member and just “voluntarily” follow EU rules.

I can probably figure out how to express “FU EU” in German, French, and Italian acronyms. Anyone know how to express that acronym in Romansh?

There is a cultural element. Gun Nutz in American culture will not be happy until every new born is breast fed by a corn fed gal looking through an Uzi.

Most of Europe understands the threat associated with Islam is fictional. The last thing they want is some crazed veteran jacked up on a stew of PTSD meds blazing down a whole theater of people because the guy behind him blew wind.

Jonn needs to venture out of the bunker a little more often. I mean for something other than Rum being half price at the liquor store and free ammo at Toys R Us.

He probably wants the ban on sending cigars to infect our military with cancer abolished too. Its because of Gun Nutz like him that the government needs to step in and protect people from themselves.

Perry Gaskill

You’re being micro-aggressive again, Dave. “Gun Nutz” is one of my trigger terms, and I’ll now need to assume the fetal position in a safe space with my service puppy.

AW1Ed

“Gun Nutz.” Izzat like “Truck Nutz” and will they be compatible with a Picatinny rail?

*grin*

Hondo

No, “Truck Nutz” are these (image may be NSFW in prudish workplaces):

AW1Ed

Damn, Hondo, I think we’re on to something here. Just imagine rockin’ a sweet pair of Gun Nutz at the local shootin’ range, hanging off the lower of your Evil Black Rifle!
Makes a statement! Just like Truck Nutz do.

Eff that. I hate Uzis. They are hard to control and bullets fly in all the wrong directions i don’t want them to go.

I once fired a full mag at a pumpkin and didn’t hit it once.

Maybe i should have used 3 points of contact to control it. But it was a friend’s and it didn’t have a buttstock.

Maybe I should do more PT, or eat more corn.

Ex-PH2

You do not understand pumpkins, Yef. They have a built-in self defense mechanism, a layer of quarks and neutrons that deflect any quag of ammo launched in their general direction. Their culture allows them to engage in self-sacrifice at annual pumpkin tossings, but they do not even give a nod to pies.

The pumpkin in you pumpkin pie is a different breed of squash, a more humble sort.

Beware the full moon at Halloween, when the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch. There’s a reason for the legends behind Jack o’ Lantern stories.

Sapper3307

A Swiss K31 is on my shopping list.

Roh-Dog

I’ve got one and it’s a beautiful piece of machinery from the bluing, lack of machine marks, the wood, engraving…
Good luck finding surplus ammo, that well done dried.

Blaster

It’s about time that the smarter countries start telling the EU to F-off. Next on the list is the UN? Especially if Obozo becomes the newest Secretary General.

Mark Lauer

Damn unions. They’re all in the pockets of the Mob!

19Delta

There’s no way that 48% of the homes having a SG550 or similar in it contributes to the low crime rate, right? Right?
