Weekend Open Thread

This weekend’s picture comes from Thunderstix. He took it at Fort Wainwright, Alaska in 1975. I jumped on Wainwright’s airfield in January 1976. I remember that one of our medics dropped his 1911 over the drop zone and we kicked and crawled through the three feet of snow and -40 degree temperature for a few hours until, yes, we found it! It was after a nine-+-hour flight from Georgia where the temperature was about 60 degrees. Good way to get acclimated. We were there for Operation Jack Frost ’76. That was a tough month. Especially since I’d enlisted in Syracuse, NY in late ’74 and picked Georgia to get away from snow and cold.

I prepared breakfast for Mrs. Bernath’s Fuel Plan this morning, for Mother’s Day, but it was half cooked and half raw. I ran out of propane to complete the cooking. I don’t know why she’s mad at me, it’s the thought that counts, right? Even though I didn’t complete the thoughts needed to ensure that I had enough propane.
Wishing a Happy Mother’s Day to all the ladies here at TAH, and also to those associated with the men who post here.
Saw this an thought it was pretty cool:

Since we do not have an Ash&Trash Weekday Thread to work with, I will extend the WOT into the week by saying:
Lest we never forget.
On this day 47 years ago, troops of the 101st Airborne Division engaged the enemy at the base of Hill 937 in the Ashau Valley.
The engagement continued until 20 May.US losses were a total of 72 KIA and 372 WIA.
A hand salute from me goes to each of those Troopers and may the 72 Rest in Peace in Hallowed Ground.
Time flies! Back in 2012, you might remember, a fellow in the VA NG was charged with committing a terroristic act in Berkeley county, WV, for running around drunk with an orange-tipped toy rifle somewhere in the vicinity of a school that was not yet open. (TAH covered the story.) Anyway, the idiot prosecutor, one Pamela Games “Let’s make a dealey” Neely, is running for re-election. Check that. She WAS running for re-election. She got her ass handed to her in conservative Berkeley county, WV yesterday. Happy days are here again!
