Amber Dawn Brower; phony active duty soldier
In Pocatello, Idaho, there is a woman by the name of Amber Dawn Brower who has set up a GoFundMe tin cup to take up money from the folks there in order to pay for some of her problems;
My whole life has been turned upside down. 2 days ago my best friend JuNae (who has had some serious issues with unprescribed medication abuse) took $3,000 worth of my business skin care product. When I confronted her and tried to ask for it back, I took a brutal blow to my left eye and blacked out. I woke up this morning in a puddle of blood on my pillow and rushed to the hospital only to find out that I have a severe blow out fracture to my eye socket and I lost half of my vision. There are bone fragments and fat blocking my sinuses resulting in near future surgery. Not only has this affected my vision, but I got a call from the military telling me that I will have to be medically discharged from the Army. This also means that I lose my military housing and will no longer have a place to live. I had to miss out on a business trip to Arizona this weekend resulting in loss of pay and not having any product means my skin care career is also over. I hate asking for help but I need all the help I can get! Anything is appreciated. This fund will go toward an attorney, product to hopefully save my skin care career, and medical expenses. Thank you again!
I can’t speak to the medical issue, the police tell us that it didn’t go down the way she says, but I can speak to the military-related issues. There is no military housing in Pocatello, Idaho from which she can be booted. Even if the medical issues are true, there’s no way that she’d get a call from the Army telling her she’s getting booted the day the issue was discovered. Oh, by the way, she’s never been in the active duty force, aside from basic training and AIT, according to the National Personnel Records Center. Maiden name is Amber Dawn Shell;
According to folks at her unit, she was mobilized, but she was returned home for medical reasons and released from her Guard commitment. I don’t mind folks rattling a tin cup, but I do have a problem when they make up stories that don’t make any sense. The folks in Pocatello should give her money if they want to give her money, but they should know the whole story. If she can’t raise money on the merits of her case, she shouldn’t make up stuff.

Just to clarify, I looked into her military records, I am a SFC in the Reserves and can tell you, she served 7 years AND did deploy to Iraq, so yes she was lying about some stuff but she did serve 7 years and has an Honorable discharge
If she deployed to Iraq why doesn’t she have a ICM? It looks more like she mobilized for an Iraq deployment and didn’t deploy for some reason which would be what was stated by Jonn already.
I will have to go back and look at her DD 214 to make sure If she did or didn’t actually make it over seas
It still doesn’t explain the crux of the issue with her claiming she’s being kicked out of the Army and Military Housing and then soliciting money because of it, or her claims about being an interrogator. Her service was honorable in the past, but she tarnished that honor with her bullshit lies as of late.
I saw nothing in the posted paperwork about interrogator. It would have read 97E or 35M (after 2006). That training would have been at Huachuca, and I did not see that in the paperwork either. There are reserve courses (another of which is at Huachuca) and the other one was at Ft. Devens until it was closed. I know of no others. I don’t get it. Why, because “interrogator” sounds cool?

from the area of eligibility.” MEDEVAC due to non-combat illness or injury (e.g., injured while engaging in recreational activities) may not qualify.
Yes, but she would still qualify for an Army Overseas Service Ribbon would she not? Plus I’m sure had she put boots on ground her unit would have at least given her an Arcom as that pretty standard for a junior enlisted soldier, even if she was medevaced back to the states.
Negative. OSR is only awarded if one meets normal overseas tour completion requirements. For Iraq and Afghanistan, that’s either (1) 11 months cumulative service in a 24-month period, or (2) 9 months consecutive service. See Q3 at

Can’t answer the ARCOM question. I’m personally skeptical that an O6-level unit commander would award an ARCOM to someone who served less than 30 days out of a 12-month tour simply “because they went”. But that’s the commander’s call, and could possibly happen.
Then why did Amber Dawn Brower said she served 12 years? And why did she state that she got a call from the US Army that she was medically discharged? Why did she lie about losing housing? And what does her service in the military have anything to do with her soliciting money based on the incident with her Ex Friend? I guarantee you: if she had never embellished her military service on the GoFundMe site, she would have never been on the radar.
Out of curiosity: WHERE was she deployed…and which unit…and how long…and when?
And if she is innocent and is right, then why did her GoFundMe all of the sudden disappeared?

I am not defending her, but the record shows a OEF medal so she was not directly deployed to Iraq but deployed some where in support of OIF possible Kuwait or Qatar. So she was deployed. some units do not list deployments but it would be in the awards. A commenter above said she was deployed in support of OIF.
I am supporting her, just saying sometimes the FOIA will not tell the hole story like duty stations. NONE of my say deployed but I deployed 11 times and it is in the awards for deployment ribbon and certain medals could indicate a deployment. OEF medal is one of them.

Not sure about anyone else but I have access to her IPerms records, and the forms they have posted are incomplete, and in no way am I defending her lies, but she did serve honorably for 7 years so her military service shouldn’t be lumped in with her current actions.
This site is full of people who served honorably and then shat all over it with embellishments or falsehoods. I think that is the problem people are having with her.
Unfortunately, that’s not how it works in communities like this. The mere fact that she embellished her military status by claiming that she’s still in put her in position where she took a dump on her otherwise honorable record. She should’ve known better than to claim that she was currently in, on active duty, and stood to lose her place in military housing.
There are posters, that came forward here, who essentially stated what you sated. Except, they claimed that although she deployed with the unit, she had to be sent home early. The fact that she had left the US on deployment is a given, and that’s supported by the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, with M device, in the Freedom of Information Request response above.
You stated things about her that aren’t in dispute by the trend of replies here. People here recognize that she served, predominantly in a reserve capacity. The above records, and other comments advanced earlier, point to her having deployed beyond the borders of the US. This isn’t the argument.
The argument is about the claims that she made on her gofundme page, as well claims that she allegedly told people that she was still serving. In this community, when someone that has served pulls a stunt like this, or go embellisher or phony, we see them as taking a dump on their military record. Consequently, we see their prior service as if it were an underwear with skid marks all over the bottom.
Had Amber Dawn Brower not feel the need to embellish or lie, she still would’ve been seen in the light that you want her to be seen here.
Actually, the mere fact that someone was awarded the AFRM w/M device does not prove deployment to the CENTCOM AOR or other overseas locations.
The AFRM w/M device can be – and is – awarded for stateside contingency support tours as well as for those OCONUS. The only requirement is to be mobilized (or serve voluntarily on extended active duty) in support of a designated contingency operation. Deployment OCONUS is not a requirement.

In talking to Ms Brower, she did not say anything in accordance to these accusations first,because she didn’t feel the need and second, that she was so hurt. Her life and reputation was tarnished because someone felt the need to blog about what they felt was a lie and send it to all of her friends in Facebook and making it go viral through the Facebook world causing her to lose her job. Ms Brower attempted to end her life last week due to all of this and ended up in a treatment facility. It’s clearly shown that she is a loved kind hearted caring person even without the military background. The gofundme page stated that the funds would be used for an attorney and more product. ……so there was no sense in ruining her life over a so called lie. You people probably have a lot more to worry about with your own lives than driving people to suicide.

I’m sure it is. One of the earlier posts claims she lost her job over this, but I thought it was the theft of her makeup products that caused her to “lose” her job (or at least that’s what she tried raising money on). So unless she somehow landed a new job and then lost it in less than a week because of this blog, I’m going to chalk it up to another lie.
I doubt the suicide claim also. If we dealt with a suicide attempt here they usually got put on a 72 hour psych hold.
Having been put on that hold myself, I agree. All the “anonymous” posts were made within 10 minutes of each other, and it’s a fail if their trying to act as if it’s different people. No one said she didn’t serve, whats being called into question is her stating that she was currently serving as she stated on her gofundme page when she was not, she was already discharged from the National Guard. She mobilized but did not deploy to Iraq as you can see from her records
True, even her photos from July 9, 2013 and earlie show her in ACU’s with no combat patch (I don’t know a deployed soldier who didn’t wear one even once). If she was in a combat zone attached to a unit for even 1 day she’d have earned at least that.

Any ARNG unit that I was involved with during a mobilization and deployment would go to the mob station at 110% strength. That was the only way that they would walk out the door with 90% of the organic unit. Between the physicals and the training, a good part of the herd would be culled before they got on airplanes. It’s a fair bet that Amber didn’t make the cut.
