Sunday morning feel good stories

| April 10, 2016

Really slim pickin’s this morning. The only story I could find was one about an off-duty SWAT officer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania who happened upon a convenience store robbery. He shot the criminal who is in critical condition.

A couple of updates from previous feel good stories, though.

Back on New Year Day, 18-year-old Sarah McKinley in Grady County, Oklahoma had to shoot a man who was crawling though her window in the middle of the night. She talks about asking 9-1-1 if she could shoot him or not, and, of course, the operator gave her a vague answer and the young recently-widowed mother had to step up all by herself in defense of her baby son. Sarah used a shotgun to take out 24-year-old Justin Shane Martin. His accomplice, Dustin Louis Stewart, has been charged with his murder.

The other day, we talked about a firebug in Peoria, Arizona who set fire to a set of rented rooms and got plugged by the fellow who owned the building. At the time, we said that everyone got out of the fire fine, however, in the latest news, 73-year-old Steve Krzyzewski, had to be pulled from the fire and he didn’t survive. The firebug survived his gun shot wound, but I’m thinking that he’s wishing that he hadn’t.

A few weeks ago, we talked about castle-owner Allen Stephenson in Greenville, South Carolina who shot a fellow on his property. That fellow’s name was Matthew Whitman. Details at the time were sketchy, but it looks like, according to the coroner’s report, Stephenson fired a few warning shots from his shotgun to influence Whitman to leave. When he wouldn’t leave, Stephenson went to escort him off of the property. Whitman attacked him with a pen knife which caused Stephenson to shoot him.
