LaVoy Finicum’s last moments
The FBI released a video of the confrontation between law enforcement and the leaders of the holdouts of the wildlife refuge which led to the death of LaVoy Finicum.
You can see from the video, that the truck with the refugees ran from one traffic stop and tried to avoid the barricade in the road, but they got stuck in the snow. Finicum, the driver, leaped from the truck and put his hands up;
Then he reached inside his jacket, like he had a gun in a shoulder holster;
The officers had a shooter in the woods and Finicum was down;
I don’t know what those people envisioned as a victory, but they picked the wrong people (for a while, there, it looked like a stolen valor convention) and the wrong strategy – it was a failure from the beginning. The standoff never had real support, not even from locals who knew and support the Hammonds. When they got the shipment of gummy dicks and dildos, they should have realized that they didn’t have support from Americans. When we exposed the phonies and pretenders who were strutting around in Multicam and telling wild-ass war stories, they should have realized that they picked wrong leaders.
They wanted a martyr and I guess Finicum volunteered. Joe Stetson should be thanking the state police that arrested him for DUI.

Have you maybe thought the officer behind him opened fire after the first yelled “gun” and opened fire? You know, because that’s how cops work to back each other up. This is especially true when the person just attempted to run a roadblock and almost hit and officer all while running from a legal traffic stop.
I’m not wild about some of the things that police have done in the past and I heard it mentioned, after the shooting, that “witnesses” say he had his hands up and was shot down in cold blood. I had my doubts about that, since this was a very visible, ongoing situation and law enforcement didn’t need, or want, bad PR. Now that the video is out, we see that he, indeed, had his hands up, however, he, also, reached into his pocket, which was a stupid move and caused his demise.
Law enforcement acted appropriately and anyone of us would have acted the same.

From what I could see and please correct me if I’m wrong….the LEO at 9 o’clock fired his weapon with the kill shot and the LEO at 5 o’clock likely shouted/screamed orders to the deceased while also informing the shooter that that deceased was reaching for a weapon.
Looked like a good shoot to me. Apparently the deceased wanted to die and stated same.

He did have his hands up and out to the side when he first got out, then half way through he lowered his hands and did reach in a pocket…but if the guy in front didn’t feel threatened enough to shoot, why in hell did the clown in the woods shoot him in the back?
I’ve watched the entire video 25 times since midnight. Downloaded every format of it and ran ’em in every manner possible with a damn expensive video card and software. I didn’t see smoke until he turned facing the trooper in the tree line. How in the fuck did you arrive at this conclusion?
So, it’s “hand-up, don’t shoot” all over again? How many independent witnesses are there at police roadblock that’s set up using three law enforcement vehicles with no other vehicles around but the one he was in?
Think this guy had megalomania and decided he was going to be a martyr for the cause? If he didn’t want to die, he sure did exactly the opposite that he needed to do to stay alive given the situation.

Well, I take no issue with the shooting but a couple of points regarding officer safety…First, the initial stop accorded the officers little protection from gunfire. Neither police vehicle was angled and one officer used his door as cover and the other used a fender while standing. More training there. Also, it looks like a person–presumably an officer ran out towrd the oncoming vehicle a split before it stopped in the snow at the roadblock. If so, that was damn stupid and no amount of training can cure that.
You can bet this will be a LEO training video for a long time.

Yes, you saw the same thing I did. OSP trooper did run out, unnecessarily exposing himself to the vehicle. In the full video, his motion starts at 9:13. He gets off a shot at the windshield at the 9:14 completely vulnerable to being plowed under.
He must have been as one of my former CO’s would say, “stupidicidal”.

The pictures taken earlier show him wearing a big hog leg on his right side. If he was giving himself up all he had to do was stop with his hands up. He could have just gave up at the first stop. I think he wanted to be the Martyr for the cause. Now his face will live on flags and t-shirts forever.

My FB feed is full of “he was murdered” bullsh*t. One person posted a pic of him with during a “press conference” at the refuge showing what looks like a six shooter on his right hip/thigh.
In the video it looks like he goes under his coat more than once and on both sides…one time on the right side/back area. I would not be surprised to hear he was carrying more than one gun.
The Feebs said they removed a 9mm from the area he was reaching for.
Does not matter … LEOs rule … hands kill … weapons do not!
Left or right or just one … in this situation non-compliance and the totality of all circumstances is articulation enough for deadly force!

When you’re dealing with a chuckwagon outfit like the Bundys, you have to always remember and factor in, there is not a cumulative high I.Q. among them. So expect anything from them. The dumber it sounds, the higher it goes on the probability of events chart.

The meme going around is that Fincum was:
* unarmed
* armed and protecting his wife and children in the truck
* shot in the back
* shot in the stomach
* the hand / arm movement is because he was reaching toward where he was shot.
* the lack of audio shows the FBI is hiding when the actual shot occurred
* this was an ambush
* this was a murder by the government
It is clear to me that these people are no different than the other fringe elements. Facts don’t matter. Videos don’t matter.
What matters is the narrative no matter how stupid and illogical that narrative is.
One final thought….. it always amazes and amuses me when these people (and others) take over a place “for the people.” Then their first move is to exclude and barricade themselves off from anyone who thinks differently than they do. In other words, “the people” are just the “people” who are willing to puppet their ideas and beliefs.

The survivalists who follow conspiracy theories have only one meme: the government is evil and is out to kill anyone they can catch. Revolution is the bottom line with them. It’s hard to believe that people who actually function on a day-to-day basis can be that delusional, but it’s true. When I first started prepping, I followed several survivalist blogs for awhile, but it got so weird that I bailed out and haven’t been back.
Like you said, the narrative is all that matters with them. They’ve invested everything they are and have into it, and they just aren’t about to let an alternate reality get in the way.

I would bet that about 99.999% of people who carry a belt-holstered gun on one side will carry a shoulder-holstered gun on the other. That ain’t rocket science, that’s just strong-hand logic. Finicum was looking for a “suicide by LEO” excuse to be a martyr and he got it… he went for something under his jacket and got killed.

When the nice officer says “let me see your hands”, you let him see them up and open until the nice officer tells you to put them down. Failure to follow this simple directive is Lesson 1 in “How to Get Shot by Law Enforcement”.
I was always taught to not argue with a police officer on the street — ever. Everybody hears better around a table down at the police station, then yelling over drawn weapons in the middle of street.
Running one roadblock, then going off the road trying to run another right after that doesn’t help much.

From what I saw on the news this morning (local Oregon station), he was stopped with the other vehicle in a lawful traffic stop. He jumped back into his car and took off with passengers still in the car.
We already knew he was a dipshit. He confirmed it by becoming a dead dipshit.
I’ve been pulled over three times in my life, twice by CHP and once by NHP, when I was younger, dumber, and still drove like a bat out of hell. Each time, I grabbed the necessary documents and held them out the window with both hands before the officer approached, and kept both hands out the window where he could see them from his car. When he told me he was comfortable with it, I placed them on the wheel, away from the shifter, still in plain sight.
Of course, I wasn’t expecting to be shot over a traffic stop (I don’t go around trying to incite people to civil war, after all). I did that as a courtesy to the officer. I gave each of them the benefit of the doubt that they pulled me over because I gave them a reason to do so, so there was no reason not to be polite. Each of them reciprocated my polite attitude, and I only ever received one ticket, which I didn’t contest. Being polite and nonconfrontational worked out for everybody.
Zero sympathy for this dickhead. I would’ve shot him too, had I been in the cop’s shoes.
The cops would have handled this like a felony stop and demanded Finicum get face down upon exiting. That’s basic training and LEO 101. The fact that Lavoy continues walking from the vehicle and clearly reaches into his jacket twice makes this a “good shoot.” My Facebook has been blown up by conspiracy theorists and nut jobs screaming murder and execution. I have to wonder if they even watched the video.
Only person at fault here is Lavoy Finicum.

“On at least two occasions, Finicum reaches his right hand toward a pocket on the left inside portion of his jacket. He did have a loaded 9-millimeter semiautomatic handgun in that pocket,” said Greg Bretzing, the FBI agent in charge of Oregon. Bretzing praised officers for not shooting earlier, when Finicum tried to barrel through.
Over what one imagines were a tense few minutes, police sheltered behind their trucks, apparently concerned that other riders might shoot. They fired flash-bangs to disorient the passengers and also OC capsules, which Bretzing described as similar to pepper spray.
As Finicum lay in the snow, the rest of the truck’s occupants slowly exited the truck without incident. The police wade through heavy snow to get to Finicum and start providing aid, about 10 minutes after he was shot. Bretzing did not say how many times Finicum was shot but said it was “in the single digits.” He said officers also found three loaded guns in the truck, including two .223 caliber semi-automatic rifles and a .38 special revolver. Only police fired shots. It has been reported that Ryan Bundy suffered a minor wound in the encounter, but it’s not clear how that happened.

Since the feds seem to be on a roll this week with land-use policy allowing them to use the Constitution to wipe their official butt, I’d like to next see a condemnation of Central Park in New York City, and have it revert back to wilderness. This would also pay homage to the sacred ancestors, sacred artifacts, sacred rocks, sacred bushes, and sacred tree spirits of the Lenape tribe.
