Bergdahl podcast

Bergdahl and pal

MustangCryppie sends us a link to the New York Times which reports on the podcast that Hollywood put together so that Bowe Bergdahl, the deserter held by the Haqqani Network for five years in Afghanistan, can tell his story to the American public, you know, while we’re waiting for the Army to throw his ass away in a dark corner of a cell somewhere.

“I’m going, ‘Good grief, I’m in over my head,’ ” Sergant Bergdahl said.

“Suddenly, it really starts to sink in that I really did something bad,” he continued. “Or, not bad, but I really did something serious.”

Yeah, well, anyone who didn’t think of that before they walked off their FOB deserves whatever they get.

In the first episode of the new season, Ms. Koenig said that as Sergeant Bergdahl stood, scared, in the open Afghan terrain, he briefly contemplated returning to his outpost, but decided against it.

“After all, the guys there are watching for people coming toward them, and they’re manning big machine guns,” she said. “He might get shot.”

Instead, Sergeant Bergdahl told Mr. Boal, he altered his initial plan, which was to trek 18 miles to a larger military base to raise concerns about problems in his unit. Now, he said, he would also track Taliban insurgents placing improvised explosive devices in the road and deliver that information to his superiors.

“When I got back to the F.O.B., you know, they could say, ‘You left your position,’ ” he said, referring to his forward operating base. “But I could say: ‘Well, I also got this information. So, what are you going to do?’ ” That would have been a “bonus point,” he added, to mitigate “the hurricane of wrath that was going to hit me.”

Utter bullshit. No one is that stupid. Think about it – would you rather face American troops or the heathen thugs who behead their prisoners on a whim? Even a Taliban in the same position as Bergdahl would choose the Americans. That was his choice when he supposedly changed his mind.

On the first podcast, Sergeant Bergdahl explained his departure from his base just as General Dahl said he had during the investigation: He wanted to create a crisis in order to get an audience with high-level commanders, so he could describe what he saw as leadership problems that could endanger troops.

But the sergeant also said he had wanted to demonstrate that he was a stellar soldier. “I was trying to prove to myself, I was trying to prove to the world, to anybody who used to know me, that I was capable of being that person,” he said, adding that in some sense he wanted to emulate someone like Jason Bourne, the espionage movie character.

Yeah, he’s Jason-f’ing-Bourne. More like Walter Mitty, if Walter Mitty was a traitorous stank-ass hippie spawn. General Dahl is an idiot, too. How many millions of dollars did the American taxpayer waste on getting Bergdahl back alive? He should volunteer for prison out of gratitude and stop whining like a teenage girl about the situation that he created for himself.

Buck Fergdahl. After he’s tried and found guilty, of course. And after the firing squad.

(Yeah, I know there are no more firing squads and that the military now uses lethal injection. I also know the chances of him receiving the death penalty are essentially nil.

But one can still dream.)

LocoLupus

I have a few spare rounds. Send him my way.

SFC D

I’ll join you. And I’ll buy the ammo.

BigJohn

I’ll bring the beer.

Bmarkos

He’s a modern Irek Hamidullah, less effective. I’d wish the mk211 rain on that. Or FGM148 for effect, 2c here ?.

MustangCryppie

I say lethal injection AND firing squad, not necessarily in that order.

Nucsnipe

And to make sure of it, a headshot from an Abrams with a sabot round

E-6 type, 1 ea

Canister

jedipsycho (Certified Space Shuttle Door Gunner)

Twice.

OUCH!

OldSoldier54

… and then nuke ‘im from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

The Other Whitey

I hear that the expense of lethal injection is making many jurisdictions look at more traditional methods of execution again. It could happen.

It SHOULD happen.

Hondo

As API reminded me below – a firing squad is a military death with a modicum of dignity.

Turncoats don’t deserve that; IMO neither do wartime deserters. Hanging is more apropos for both, and there’s some evidence that Bergdahl may indeed be both.

Please mentally modify my comment above to read “after his hanging” vice “after the firing squad”.

KenWats

@Hondo, I’m pretty sure the Taliban already did…

Who believes this stuff?

Reb

HONDO…BERGDAHL is a traitor to the United States Military and the civilians they protect.

Private Solvack, the last deserter to be executed ran from the frontlines to safety and swore he’s GOING to keep running until he was reassigned sealed his fate by writing his intentions to higher ups.

BERGDAHL put other soldiers in harm’s way by deserting his post. He claims nobody was injured while searching for him, but really, who really knows. He should be executed just because of not giving crap about leaving his mates unprotected. Bullet or injection is what he earned.

Ex-PH2

Why is this less than human being not in jail?

This useless wedge of moldy cheesebread cost people their lives, and he gets to do a podcast to talk about his fantasies.

20 minutes, and I could reduce him to what he is: quivering jelly.

nbcguy54ACTUAL

Just like the little girly Manning gets to post stuff from Leavenworth.

WTF?

Pinto Nag

Nah, it would only take you about two minutes, unless you were off your game.

Alberich

Pretrial confinement is a tough thing to get in the military…it’s easier for deserters because at least you have some evidence of “flight risk.” But the problem is that, under Article 10, UCMJ (10 USC 810), they can get their cases dismissed if they’re in pretrial confinement and the government doesn’t get the case to trial with reasonable speed. Since this one has been mighty slow…they’re better off with him out of jail until after the trial. At which point I hope he gets to stay there a good long time.

Reb

I would love to see a ma’am reduce him to mildly jelly and toss him in the garbage

A Proud Infidel®™

Reb, I am ABSOLUTELY certain that you or ANY of the other Lionesses of TAH®™ could do so in MAYBE five seconds if it even took any of you even that long to do so!! 😀

sj

Why not in jail? Because that would look bad for Barry after his Rose Garden welcome of ole Bowe and his hippie dad.

QM1

Haven’t heard the first episode to season 2 of Serial yet, but I kind of enjoyed the first season. We all know that this guy is a lying sack of s^%t, but Ms. Koenig is probably trying to start the season off with the attempt to leave doubts in the minds of the listener much like the first season.

I’m hoping that by the end of the season the listener can easily discern how guilty this traitorous scum is, but it is NPR so….

GDContractor

Yeah, I listened to Season 1 also. I am guessing that this season’s episode 9 will be:

“Well, I was at the pot farm in N. Cal because I knew that illegal drugs are a major problem facing our country and I thought maybe I could get some intel that would assist the DEA with their investigation. The government could call me a deserter, but I could say, ‘Yeah but I helped you bag a pot farm’. At that point, what could they do?”

I can’t help but mentally compare Bergdahl to that young soldier in Restrepo… I think his name was Sasha. Sasha was home schooled by a hippy mom preaching non-violence and all that shit, yet, from what I know of him, he did his job and served honorably. Bergdahl and his behavior are a mystery to me.

The Other Whitey

Watching “Restrepo” makes me wish they’d just shot Bergdahl when they found his lying ass.

OWB

As if we needed further proof that this is a totally self-absorbed attention whore.

HMCS (FMF) ret.

Bergdahl needs to have a long stretch in the hole… fucker doesn’t get it that people died looking for his stupid ass.

B Woodman

A long stretch in WHICH hole? And by whom?
“Calling Doctors Tiny, Thor, and Bubba. You’re needed to stretch out a hole.”

HMCS (FMF) ret.

The Tali’s probably got to him first… there’s is a saying in the Arab World that sum it up best,

“There’s no better joy than the fat bottomed boy”

Thunderstixx

Not only did he kill six men, he is responsible for the head injury to a MSG and only God knows what other wounded soldiers in their quest to find his useless ass…

USMCMSgtRet

Hondo (or anyone else who knows)?

Since he hasn’t had his trial yet, couldn’t any comment he makes in the podcast be used against him?

I’m no lawyer, but it seems to me this gives them ammunition to successfully argue the elements for desertion. I’m a little sketchy on my knowledge on the “misbehavior before the enemy”.

Pinto Nag

He’s trying for ‘trial by public popularity contest.’ It’s the only tiny chance he has not to go to jail for the rest of his natural life.

USMCMSgtRet

Which leads me to my second question…

Why hasn’t this fuckwit gone to trial yet?

A Proud Infidel®™

I’m thinking that it’s for all the same reasons that B. Hussein 0bama & Company took so damned long to try and convict the coward Hasan.

D

Do you mean the US military, specifically the Army? They are the ones who tried Hasan, not the administration.

Reb

Waived his right to a speedy trial.

Alberich

USMC – Yes, if he says things of his own free will in public, they can be used against him. (On the other hand, if the command wants to question him, they have to give him a rights warning…and since he’s represented now, I doubt they’re getting a syllable.)

As we have often discussed here in the past…the charge of desertion with intent to shirk is a no-brainer in any case.

Reb

Anything asswipe says, writes, dreams can be used against him, unless military laws are different

A Proud Infidel®™

OH, I’m absolutely sure that there are PLENTY of people who want to catch him fucking up in any way, shape or form and report it.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Wow, after reading that horseshit it seems Bergdahl is even more fucking stupid than first imagined.

Decision after decision absolutely the wrong one each time he decides which path to take…

So now we can add stupid to traitorous son-of-a-bitch.

What a shitbird.

Dapandico

Bergdahl will come to trial when another crisis arises that the admin will need a squirrel for.

Jeff

So he did not want to walk back to his base because they might shoot him with there big ass machine guns, so he decided to walk to a bigger base. I guess they must not be watching for people approaching that one with big ass machine guns.

Pinto Nag

Tell me again why we’re bothering with this? How hard is it to understand, “Ready, Aim, FIRE!!”?

A Proud Infidel®™

IMHO, a Firing Squad seems too dignified for the likes of Bergdahl. I say walk him to the top of the gallows, black hood over the head, attach the noose and *THUNK*… Lethal injection could be fitting, just think of him being put to sleep like a vicious dog.

A Proud Infidel®™

FUCK Bowe Bergdahl up the ass sideways with triple strand concertina wire wrapped in asbestos while he’s sitting and spinning on diarrhea-soaked broken glass right after he’s been savagely sodomized by a Grizzly Bear with AIDS and the meanassed sonofabitch that gave it to him! I wonder how many times he was their “Poosht” on “Man-love Thursday”? I’m all for leaving him alone strapped to a chair in a windowless room with the Buddies, family and friends of those wounded or killed looking for him and I’d “accidentally” leave some things laying around in there beforehand, things like icepicks, screwdrivers, needle nose pliers…

D

I recommend everyone listen to this season of Serial. I just listened to the first episode, and I don’t think the kid did himself any favors. They seem to be playing this one down the middle, but letting Bergdahl tell his side gives us a glimpse into how naive and just plain stupid he is. They are also talking to members of his unit. Heck, they’ve even talked to the Taliban. So far, this one seems wired tighter than the first season.

GDContractor

I listened to it today. Looks like they intend to do a good job in exploring the perspectives from all parties.

OldSarge57

I cringe every time he is referred to as SGT. Did any MOH recipient get automatically promoted?

19D2OR4 - Smitty

Hes a shitbird PFC and everyone knows it.

A Proud Infidel®™

Let’s also not forget that Bowe Bergdahl was thrown out of USCG Basic Training as well. IMHO he only made it through Army Basic & AIT because the Army felt it needed as many warm bodies as it could get at the time.

Hondo

I’m thinking there’s a good chance he failed to disclose that when he enlisted in the Army, API. I don’t know that to be the case, though, and I could be wrong.

A Proud Infidel®™

I wonder if someone couldn’t go through his Enlistment Paperwork and see if he did or didn’t disclose it? If he didn’t that ought to add a charge of Fraudulent Enlistment!

radar

Exactly the same for me – that piece of garbage is not an NCO.

19D2OR4 - Smitty

“Now, he said, he would also track Taliban insurgents placing improvised explosive devices in the road and deliver that information to his superiors.”

So basically he is now trying for ‘The Hurt Locker’ defense. Because that movie was sooo accurate./snarc

Data Dawg DV X

If I outlive Berg Doll, I swear I will attempt to piss on this stupid motherfucker’s grave before I croak.

A Proud Infidel®™

I’d piss on his grave as quickly as I would on “Hanoi Jane” Fonda’s!

Hondo

Given the opportunity to only water the grass on only one of those two graves, API . . . no question that I’d choose to water Bergdahl’s.

Choosing between Berghdahl’s and Hassan’s or Manning’s, on the other hand, would be tough.

PFM

Amend to “Good Grief, I’m a Bona Fide Blue Falcon!”. Where’s my movie and book deals??!

Silentium Est Aureum

Jonn, I gotta love the fact that, intentionally or otherwise, you always post that pic of Bergdahl and his buddy only on Man Love Thursdays.

And Bergdahl? Just plead guilty and STFU already.

RGR 4-78

Fat bottomed boy’s they make the Haqanni’s network go around.

Slick Goodlin

“stop whining like a teenage girl about the situation that he created for himself.”

I resent that remark…as an Uncle of teenage girls none of them whine as much as Private E-1 to be Bergdahl.

A Proud Infidel®™

I heard a rumor that people just walk away from wherever Bergdahl goes on Ft. Sam, no real source, a “friend of a friend of a friend” kind of rumor, but I hope it’s true!

Alberich

If so I hope it doesn’t have any “command” component….if the command instructs people to shun him, he can try to claim it as “pretrial punishment” and get time knocked off his sentence.

A Proud Infidel®™

If I heard right it’s more of nearly everyone on that post knowing who he is and what he did as well as the assumption he’ll be like a jailhouse snitch on anyone he even remotely thinks is saying or doing the wrong thing around him. The respect everyone there has for him is at least twenty times lower than what they have for dogshit on the sidewalk!

Green Thumb

Shitbag.

Steve

Man this realky makes me angry. That stupid, tossed-up, lying, mouth-breathing, fucking RETARD.

And, he’s been made a poster boy of the anti-war movement just like that little gnome Chelsea. You wait, annything approaching a proper punishment for DERGBAHL will result in candle-light vigils calling for his release!

Kill it with fire…
