The rebuke more powerful than bombs
Yesterday, the President, speaking to the media alongside French President François Hollande announced his most ambitious plan yet to defeat the ISIS thugs in the Levant. He’s going to a climate conference in Paris according to The Hill;
“Next week, I will be joining President Hollande and world leaders in Paris for the global climate conference,” Obama said during his prepared remarks, which focused mostly on the efforts to fight the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
“What a powerful rebuke to the terrorists it will be, when the world stands as one and shows that we will not be deterred from building a better future for our children,” he added.
[…]
“I think it is absolutely vital for every country, every leader, to send a signal that the viciousness of a handful of killers does not stop the world from doing vital business, and that Paris … is not going to be cowered by the violent, demented actions of a few,” Obama said about the upcoming climate conference.
I remember when, during the 2008 election, Obama ridiculed President Bush for telling America to go shopping to fight terrorism. I guess he doesn’t see the irony of a bunch of rich guys gathering in the City of Lights to sip wine and eat food they can’t pronounce properly, and make a show of talking about science that no one in the room understands and see that as a way to fight a bunch of goat-roping criminals living in tents, ruins and caves and murdering hundreds of even poorer people for the thrill of killing. For the children.
I suppose the sight of the rich people talking will make ISIS throw down their weapons and surrender. They’ll probably surrender much faster that way than if we killed thousands of them in the time it takes to organize the little party of rich people. Or probably not.

I’ll reserve judgement on your post until I see Lars’ take. /s
I’m telling you right now that Obama has held terrorism in CHECK… more drone strikes than Bill Clinton… BUSH LIED PEOPLE DIED!!! You’ll see in 5 years how people will say, “Remember President Obama, all he did for America and the World… he’s the greatest president ever, better than those angry WHITE PRIVILEGED MEN that founded this country!!!”
Now I need to go to my Safe Space and read my dog eared version of “50 Shades of Grey”….
You’re right. Jimmy Carter will be saying that.
Yep! I agree, he’s right…especially about the dog-eared version of “50 Shades of Grey,” although I believe it is likely those pages are just a little stained.
The effete and elitist progressives are so detached from the real world it is frightening. I sometimes wonder whether they wipe their own butts or have attendants to do that for them.
“People sometimes ask me what the biggest perk of being president is.“No. 1 is the plane.” Amerika’s president, quoted by that extreme right-wing paper, the New York Times, 18 October 2015.
That’ll show those nasty terrorists! (/sarc)
Yes….the terrorists are going to see a Prius and run in fear…or…wait…Huh? There are no Prius’ in Syria…Whoops. Gee. SOFS, Mr. Pied Piper…Maybe you can send them boxes of LED light bulbs and they’ll be really, really scared? You just can’t make this shit up, can you?
Do you have any idea how much harmful gas is thrown into the atmosphere by suicide bombers? Any at all?!
Is it methane? I know that when the sigmoid is pierced, the amount of escaping gas could light an entire city block.
I wonder how much THAT junket will cost U.S. taxpayers? Oh well, money has never been a problem when it comes to providing perks and luxury for dEAR leader B. Hussein 0bama! I’m sure that a bunch of hot air and babble from him will have the hadjis quaking in their man-dresses. /SARC
Climate change not real.
Terrorists real.
NOOOOOO! MY PROFESSORS SAY IT’S REAL, so I KNOW you’re wrong!!
WHERE’S THE TRIGGER WARNINGS FOR THIS BLOG!!!!! I WANT MY SAFE SPACE AND WOOBIE RIGHT NOW!!!
You do not deserve a woobie.
Go play Frogger in rush hour traffic.
NOOO!!! Others have theirs and I want mine because it isn’t fair if I don’t get the same that others do, MY PROFESSOR SAID SO!!!
“What a powerful rebuke to the terrorists…”
Damn. There is so much wrong with this, I almost don’t know where to begin. To keep from going on a rant, I’ll just post two points.
— This was said by a man who doesn’t have to worry about a light bulb burning out near him, much less a bomb going off, because of the dozens if not hundreds of highly trained agents around him that protect him.
— And who here other than me hyperventilated at the term ‘rebuke’ in connection with our dealings with terrorists? Christ on a pony, that lack of reality in our leadership would be comedy gold if it weren’t real. As it is…it’s horrifying.
Wasn’t there supposed to be a response to the ‘act of war’ by ISIS on Friday the 13th?
Did I miss something?
There you have it, quit complaining, that is unless leading from behind (the French and Russians of all countries)is suddenly out of vogue for the Chump in Chief.
Mason Williams (of Classical Gas fame) once did a song about liberals replacing the bald eagle (J. Edgar Swoop) as the symbol of the US. Replaced by the French poodle. One line from the song sums up things today: “J. Edgar didn’t care, poodles are queer, America’s gone to the dogs.”
This?
By that logic me scratching my left ass-cheek should lead to the Baltimore Orioles winning the pennant next year.
There really is nothing of substance to have any opinion on in the president’s remarks. Just some vague political rhetoric and no real indication that there is a genuine cooperative strategy in the works.. The fact is that is that the groups and nations in this fight do not have aligned interests. Russia does not care about defeating ISIS. It only cares about securing Syria for Assad. Russia will bomb and potentially launch a ground campaign under the pretext of fighting ISIS but Russia will fight the Kurds, FSA, Al Nusrah/ISIS, or any other group threatening Assad’s regime right now. Assad’s forces do not care about defeating ISIS only, only in securing Syria. Iraqi shia militants care only about securing Shia areas, Baghdad, and as many oil fields as possible. Kurds want to secure Kurdistan. And win recognition as a nation so will fight/resist whoever stands in the way of that outcome, including resisting Turks. Turks want Al Nusrah to control Syria and see Assad deposed, they also want to defeat Kurdish resistance. So will not commit against ISIS in any meaningful way and will work both sides in order to undermine any effort to defeat anti-Assad forces, including being a spoiler in the fight against Al Nusra which is ISIS in Syria. They will also undermine any efforts to assist the Kurds, including in the Kurdish fight against ISIS elements. Iran wants Shia regions of Iraq to be under their influence through an Iraqi Shia government aligned with Iran, and will support Shia militants in their fight against ISIS, in order to achieve that end. However, they also want Assad to remain in power and will support Assad’s regime including other pro-regime forces fighting the FSA and ISIS. They will also support Hezbollah. Hezbollah is backing Assad. Al Nusra is united with ISI as part of ISIS and want to establish the Syrian territories as part of a new Sunni Caliphate. ISI (ISIS in Iraq) want the same for the Iraqi territories. Both want to frame this as a war between the West and Islam in order to gain… Read more »
I’m sorry, Lars, I started reading that and I couldn’t finish it because about three lines into it, I realized that even you didn’t know where you were going with it. I’ve never seen anyone type so much when they really have nothing to say.
He likes you.
Jonn loves me, I am secure in our relationship, Taylor doesn’t have a chance.
You lasted 3 lines? Wow, what mental strength!
I only lasted half a sentence, and then I gave up. I must work on endurance.
I only lasted through the first sentence and I think just reading that lowered my IQ by ten points!! Larsie-pinky’s writing makes a US Army Manual or DA PAM look like a Tom Clancy novel in comparison!!
I’m inspired to complete my latest novel now. I can see that the competition is quite limited.
You always inspire me, even when you are not cooking.
I put a lot of thoughts in it, and they are coherent in describing each group primary interest in Syria. But there may be spelling and grammar issues that make it harder to read.
But, I don’t always post with the expectation people will necessarily read what I post.
Often I am pretty relieved to see there are no comments in reply because often the comments are just a lot of negative crap.
Thanks for the input. I am concerned that my ability to write is in significant decline.
All I see in Larsie-pinky’s post is:
“I am concerned that my ability to write is in significant decline.”
So is your academic advisor.
Do some extra credit. Maybe help obese whales or empower gay Nazis.
Stay the course and keep focused on graduation.
What the hell is Larsie-poo’s hallowed degree in? An eight-year degree in Gender Studies? Chinese Politics? Art history or Transgender Studies? He’s too imbecilic to make it in the private sector, I see a future for him as a Government bureaucrat, how often does one of those damn things get canned for incompetence?
Word has it that the VA and All-Points Logistics are hiring.
I would advise him to drop the attempts to write anything and stick to marking those little ovals on test answer sheets.
It’s less confusing, and you can get some really cool patterns out of it.
I still love you Mr Taylor.

THREE SENTENCES? I could only do one. You’re a tougher Warrior than I am, Jonn!!
3 lines!!?? Man, you got a strong stomach … must be all those snakes you et.
😛
He didn’t type Al that Jonn. He used control + C and control + V multiple times though. Your point still stands.
Al should have been all

All other things aside, the timing of the Paris attacks indicates that was an act of war on the part of ISIS.
I can go into the details about that, if anyone is interested, but the timing of those events indicates that we are going to be facing a rough road of conflict ahead of us.
While the term “act of war” is being thrown around but it kinda gives ISIS legitimacy as a state in the international framework.
An act of war requires the act be taken by a state. So for this to be an act of war we would essentially by attributing nation status to ISIS. Which is fine, we do not need to formally recognize them as a state in order to consider their actions the acts of war by a state. But by using they committed and act of war it is essentially given them some legitimacy as state actor.
I agree that ISIS has had this template of attacks in mind for a while and we will likely see more moving forward.
However, they are currently limited by the rate at which they are able to recruit domestic citizens as agents in these attacks and they lose those assets when they are used.
Lars,
Wrong again!
You are confusing ‘act of war’ with ‘declaring war’.
But what would I know …
Well, you see, Master Chief, the trout-sniffer doesn’t understand the necessity of determining the most auspicious time to make some venture work successfully, especially to those of a superstitious nature.
Timing is everything in something like this.
I will explain later, when the holiday is over.
I’m thoroughly convinced that Larsie-parsie-Pinky the thin-skinned creampuff is also SEVERELY allergic to hard work, logic and common sense. I bet he’s lived and gone to school in Berserkely SO LONG now that he’s now as allergic to soap and water as Vampires are to Garlic, Holy Water, oak stakes and Crucifixes!!
No I am not, in order for it to be an act of war it must be committed by a state actor. Only states can wage war. And that is intentional because it gives states a monopoly on “lawful” aggression.
Islamic State
Controls territory.
Has an Army.
issues currency
Has an established system of courts and laws, and uses them to enforce control.
Sure sounds like a state to me.
refusing to acknowledge them as a state, does not invalidate their position that they are one. Nor does it prevent their neighbors from dealing with th reality that they are one. Nor does it seem to prevent them from committing both acts of war, and violations of the law and customs of war.
Your personal opinion of them, does not invalidate their opinion of themselves. nor of everyone else who actually seems to want to stop the barbarians before they further metastasize.
Metastasize?!?!?
Oh! 11BMailclerk! You are SO in my groove.
Well, Lars, I don’t know how the massively elite profs at that there massively superior college you attend define “state,” but in lesser parts of the academic world, it is defined as an entity that has:
– a defined geographic area
– a government structure that controls that geographic area
– a sovereign rule by this government structure within this defined geographic area
– a population living an functioning under that sovereign government
Sounds to me like ISIS meets this standard definition. But what do I know, I’m just a lowly blue-collar former SP/4 who taught this concept in distinctly non-elite schools for about twenty years.
ALL I hear when Larsie-pinky speaks is:
I was torn between yawning and snoring.
https://youtu.be/SOxwffK0xUc
When it comes to Christians in small towns in the USA, oBaMa said that we cling to religion and guns out of bitterness. But, see, he won’t even acknowledge the role Islam plays in worldwide violence and mayhem. It’s the religion of peace, don’t ya know.
Bitterness? Over what?
What is the sound of one hand clapping?
That’d be Obama loping his mule…*cackle*
MEH, look at how the hadjis cling to their guns, rocket launchers, carbombs and religion!
Yes, they’re all over the place about those things, aren’t they?
I think I knowhutchyamean Ex-PH2, one second they’re yelling “ALLAH BLEHLEH”, then *POOF!*, they’re all over the place!!
Shouldn’t that read “religion of pieces“?
ANYTIME I hear B. Husein 0bama, Kerry ortheir ilk speak or I read what WHINEstein or Larsie-parsie-pinky the creampuff spout off, all I see and hear is THIS, and it’s much more aesthetically appealing than ANY of those sphincter-mouths:
This guy isn’t hesitant to open his mouth, unless it makes his pals look bad.
You know like Rahm over in Chicago or the Sunni mercs that turned into ISIS the US funded and trained as a response to the failed Bahrain take over.
“Goat roping”?
Close………..
Scof if you will but this brave new push by our leader has no doubt already resulted in some high level meeting between the ISIS secretary for Environmental and Scientific Policy and his counterparts in NASA and NOAA. So far word on the street has it that ISIS will be participating in the 2016 Earth Day summit and they have agreed to reduce their carbon emissions by 15%.
How, by using 10% less plastique in their suicide vests and a 10% reduction in the amount of ANFO used in their car bombs?
They have promised to use cleaner burning fuels for when they destroy antiquities and rape and pillage a village.
Slave labor also significantly reduces carbon emissions; especially if you don’t feed them very well.
Good one! Heh.
