Alarm did alert during Worcester armory theft

The other day, we discussed the break in of a Reserve Armory in Worcester, Massachusetts that resulted in the theft of some scary black guns. the building was under construction at the time. Today, one of our ninjas send us a link to an article that reports that the alarm in the facility did alert on the break in;

“It was determined that the alarm went off during the time of the arms room break in,” Capt. Eric W. Connor said in a statement released Tuesday. “Due to operations security and to protect the integrity of the investigation we cannot reveal our security procedures.”

[…]

The break-in occurred between 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. Sunday.

It seems to me that they’d have the time frame for the break in narrowed down a bit, if the alarm had worked.

The picture above is allegedly a picture of the thief and his mode of transportation.

Kind of begs the question, “Who exactly is responsible for responding to the alarm”?. Hardwired to Cops/Fire or is it an Army Reserve thing? Seems somebody was asleep at the switch or in on the heist.

Crusty CW3

The alarms go to a central monitoring station, who then is responsible for alerting local authorities and the facility manager/commander.

Silentium Est Aureum

ADT type of deal, huh?

Another reason not to use them or the like.

Bill

I remember back in the day at the Pen, sometimes it took until the following day to reach someone responsible for the alarmed site. Nothing new here, unfortunately.

Jason

Yes I would either expect one of the construction workers or a NG member. In any case someone that could be on site to plan and observe without suspicion.

I used to work on a security team and we had to test these systems.
The system is or was called JSIIDS. One of the things we used to do is test both the system to make sure it was working by testing it’s various sensors (won’t give away secrets). Every time a arms room is entered a call is made with a challenge/response. If it’s not answered or not answered correctly the MP’s 0r police are on there way and fast.

So after all that, if the Police did not respond, I’d look for an inside job.

MSG Eric

Even still I’m guessing it is an inside job. The amount of weapons and type taken, along with knowing about entry to the vault, etc., are all up the “someone in the unit, or formerly in it” lane.

Miles

JSIIDS went obsolete 6+ years ago. It was replaced with ICIDS.

The newer system though, still requires sensor and system testing with the monitoring station.

LOL, Thanks Miles, I am an old fart. It was JSIIDS 20 years ago 🙂

Local armory here definitely goes to law enforcement, plus there is an external bell that goes off outside the building. Pisses the neighbors off when SFC Snuffy doesn’t enter the code fast enough and trips it – I’m sure they call the local cops to complain about the noise :).

The armory alarm in the city I worked in went to an alarm company. Their usual M.O. was to call the first name on the contact list. The alarm company then contacted the police. If #1 didn’t answer, they went to #2, and so on and so on. It could take a while to get the info to the P.D.

SFC Snuffy ? he got promoted ? About time he’s been PVT Snuffy since the 60’s 🙂

Hondo

Um, you might want to go easy on “SGT Snuffy”.

Don H

Of course, it could explain why he only got 6 rifles and 10 pistols. If he had all the time in the world, I would have expected him to clean the place out. I’m assuming, of course, that the arms room was shared, and full. Maybe he got spooked.

Wait, JSIIDS worked like a champ and they put it out of service? Way to f’ng go. And I’ll wager it was an inside job, too. Someone knew the response time.

” “Due to operations security and to protect the integrity of the investigation we cannot reveal our security procedures.””

That means “whoever put those security measures in place is going to have his fucking ass handed to him on a plate”

Kill. Him. With. Fire.

Great that they caught him. Whoever had “Long Island Child Molester” in the pool, please collect your winnings. I wonder if he’ll turn out to be friends/relatives of a Unit member, or maybe the construction crew.

ChipNASA

He was a member of the Army Reserve. Not sure if he was part of the groups that trained at this location.

“Morales most recently faced charges in May of child rape and indecent assault on a child under 14 years old and was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet. He was later discharged from the Army Reserve. “

Lincolntf

Ah, good to know. Hopefully he goes away for a long time.

Hondo

Decided to rob the arms room at a Reserve Center while wearing a monitoring bracelet due to the fact that he’s facing child rape charges.

Yeah, sounds like an aspiring rap star – One DMF.

Ex-PH2

What’s an M-4 assault rifle? I thought it was a carbine. Am I mistaken?

Hondo

No. Although the M4 probably technically qualifies as an “assault rifle” by definition, it is indeed a carbine.

Ex-PH2

Thanks!
