Lonergan won’t be punished by George Williams College
Last week, we talked about Ryan Lonergan, a veteran who came upon a student who was pretending to be a Marine officer in the cafeteria at George Williams College in Wisconsin. The college had temporarily suspended Lonergan from being on campus, except for attending classes while they investigated the incident. The Army Times reports that Lonergan won’t be punished;
A former Wisconsin National Guard soldier who faced a hearing at his college after confronting a fellow student allegedly posing as a Marine officer won’t receive any punishment and is welcome back on campus after a limited ban.
Former Spc. Ryan Lonergan, who deployed to Iraq during his time in uniform and is pursuing a master’s degree in social work at George Williams College in Wisconsin, was initially barred from the school’s campus except to attend class while school officials investigated the details of the Oct. 6 confrontation. He met with officials Monday and the matter was cleared up, school spokesman Steve McFarland said in a Wednesday interview.
I guess the college got beat up pretty badly on their Facebook page – which they probably didn’t deserve.
Thanks to Chief Tango for the link.

And I hope by cleared up, that means that the school administrators who were overreaching, overreacting asshats, got down on their knees and SMOOCHED his ASS!!
/not likely, I know but one can dream.
The admin officials there over-reacted, and everyone followed that by over-reacting on Facebook.
Is that the thing call a ‘conclusion’, and everyone jumped to it?
Well, all the exercise I get is pushing 70 and jumping to conclusions.
Try flying off the handle. Works for me.
Separate the reply and report button a bit would ya?
Getting old and fine motor skills are erratic at best.
And BTW.
“Once you are over the hill you gain momentum”.
Worse coffee cup slogan.
Ever.
Glad Lonergan is back in class and on campus, perhaps he learned a lesson in this exchange. Whether we like it or not in civilian society loud confrontations can have legal repercussions, not always but sometimes. Consequently it’s wise to maintain your composure while stating your point.
Hopefully the douchebag liar finds a Karmic justice as well…
I wonder if the poser he busted learned anything?
I see Jonn’s point: the college probably didn’t deserve to be trashed of facebook for suspending the guy while they sorted it all out.
Have to admit though, it’s pretty heart-warming that they got trashed on Facebook.
Ryan Lonergan yelled at the Marine that shot the window of my C130 during Operation Cheese Stromboli. We were forced to land.
Cheese,
Dennis (Denny) Howard Chevalier
I’ve never said this to anyone before, but. Thank you for your service.
Did the college also suspend the poser during the investigation?
Seeing the college’s facebook page i felt bad for them. They were promoting stuff for their college and people would just ruin it. However i am pleased they did change their minds.
I’m glad to see these folks called out and exposed. Now I’d like to see some sort of way to expose the phony “disabled” veterans. You know, the ones getting disability for sleep apnea, glaucoma, and any number of non-service connected maladies that somehow the VA considers “disabling”. Sorry to tell you, but the military didn’t make you snore or give you diabetes. It’s time that we reform this program, stop the scams, and STOP disability payments for hereditary and personal life-style “diseases”. There are far too many truly disabled veterans that really need the help (and money) that these phonies are taking.
what do you mean the Army didn’t give me diabetes?
Did you ever hear of Agent Orange?
Ok, I will play along. The nonprofit Institute of Medicine publishes a regular analysis of scientific research, which is used by the VA. In 2000, the institute found the possibility of a connection between diabetes and the defoliant, but it also said that other factors like lifestyle and family history play a bigger part. Regardless, after the possible link was reported, the VA put type 2 diabetes on the list the next year.
There has never been a proven connection between service in RVN and diabetes. More than a quarter of men over sixty have it to some degree, regardless of service.
It was put on the list and if you served you can file a claim. To answer your question, no the Army most probably had nothing to do with you getting diabetes.
Unless I am mistaken, any person who served at least 90 days in country in RVN and has any form of diabetes, is automatically guaranteed a V A rating once they have been diagnosed. Seems like Agent Orange was considered the “infector”, if there is such a manifestation.
Maybe, maybe not.
I have seen a lot of instances where very credible men that were quite literally bathed in AG (central highlands, for example) that have Diabetes.
That isn’t the way it works. If you have a VA rating and they find out you have sleep apnea they will TREAT you for it. You will get the sleep study, CPAP and equipment.
Getting RATED for it is an entirely different story. The way it works is if you enter the service with a clean bill of health and when you get out you have a health condition, its considered due to service.
I know several Vets who get sleep apnea equiptment from the VA. NONE get a pension for it.
Unless you had a sleep study done prior to your discharge you AREN’t getting it Service connected.
It’s a fine line you tread when you try to determine what “hereditary” conditions are and aren’t agravated by service.
Using that logic people who have a history of depression in their family wouldn’t be eligible for PTSD pensions.
A person with a history of heart disease or hypertension in their family who retired after 33 years couldnt draw disability for developing high blood pressure.
A grunt whose family has a history of osteoperosis wouldnt get a rating for his wrecked knees or ankles.
I know of 3 retirees receiving disability payments for apnea. If you’re being treated for it prior to leaving service, it’s an automatic 50% rating.
That’s the kicker. If you don’t get it diagnosed prior to getting out you are SOL.
Sleap Apnea wasn’t even considered a medical condition until the 1980s and 90s and it’s only been treated for the past 16 years or so.
I fully agree. That position is not talked about enough. Treating conditions that might have some loose connection to service is one thing, sending out a check every month is another.
Stop sending a check every month and see if tens of thousands dont find they are suddenly cured.
I can think of two, Dave, that would be howling about it… claiming that it was TAH going after the “100% disabled, real, deal Vietnam combat vets”…
Is the university cooperating with federal prosecutors? ‘Cause you KNOW that they will be getting right on that Stolen Valor criminal charge. Uh-huh.
What exactly did they investigate? Sounds like the student they temporarily suspended was a whistle blower. Aren’t those protected?
They are protected if you are a member of the “correct” gender/socioeconomic groups… higher leaning institutions seem to have problems with conservative males that speak out.
Sounds about right! According to the pointy-headed liberals in today’s colleges, most of whom have never made a living outside of a college campus, being a Conservative White Male automatically makes you the source of all the world’s problems and the root of all evil!
