Docs Without Borders claim Kunduz hospital bombing was intentional

| October 18, 2015

The Associated Press reports that Doctors Without Borders is charging that the bombing of their hospital last week in Kunduz, Afghanistan by US aircraft was intentional;

The trauma hospital was bombed during a firefight between Taliban and government troops, as U.S. advisers were helping Afghan forces retake the city after the insurgents overran it and seized control on Sept. 28.

[…]

Doctors Without Borders officials have said the U.S. gunship made five separate strafing runs over the course of an hour, directing heavy fire on the main hospital building, which contained the emergency room and intensive care unit.

If the Afghan government hadn’t given up the city in the first place, taking it back from the Taliban wouldn’t have been necessary. Given that the Taliban is well-known for hiding behind innocents while prosecuting their war against civilians and Doctors Without Borders’ history of siding with terrorists, it makes sense to me that the hospital was probably a legitimate target.

While it shouldn’t be US policy to bomb hospitals, it should send a message to these thugs that their days of hiding behind innocents have ended. The President has apologized for the incident, but only because he can blame the troops for the bombing. he certainly hasn’t taken responsibility for it.

From another AP link;

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Obama offered condolences to the staff and pledged a “transparent, thorough and objective accounting of the facts.”

According to Doctors Without Borders, US special forces troops had scrutinized the hospital in the days before the attack, so I’m pretty sure that they had their reasons for targeting the hospital.

Fuck Doctors Without Borders. They, like the United Nothing, often look the other way or straight up aid terrorist organizations. I can say from first hand experience that there this a reason the hospital was targeted.

Nevyan

Questions that haven’t been satisfactorily answered:

1. Was the hospital well marked IAW international law (Geneva Convention) as a hospital?

2. Has their been any word on what the footage prior to, during and after the strike shows indicating this was a legitimate military target?

3. Did Doctors Without Borders try to contact US military commanders to report armed combatants in the vicinity of their hospital or to inform them that this location was a hospital?

4. If the footage shows that armed combatants were using he hospital as a shelter or attacking from the hospital will Doctors Without Borders be held responsible for the violation of the Geneva Convention?

1. No

2. No

3. No

How about this “theory”: we’ve been training afghanis for quite some time. We were at one time training them on how to call in arty, mortar, and aircraft. Was there a taliwhaker out there that at one time claimed to be a loyal fan of the US & Afghan govt? I mean we all know that ragheads don’t claim to be one thing when they are really something else, right?

What’s next, is Doctors Without Borders gonna blame Bush as well?

OldSoldier54

No, they are much more “inclusive” in their demagoguery. Like Obama, in their view, America IS the problem.

And the facts be damned.

OldSarge57

War sucks. If you work in a war zone, anything can happen regardless of best intent. Sorry it happened, but it does. With all these NGO’S running around it amazes me it doesn’t happen more often. Just imagine if ISIS was there…

Of course the place was intentionally bombed. It was a target and it was hit. That’s not deniable. But that’s a whole lot different than saying that “The US knew it to be a hospital, was aware that it was used exclusively to treat injured and sick people but bombed it anyway.”

Nonner

Since when does an AC-130 make “strafing runs” or bomb targets? Hearing stuff like that makes me even more skeptical that this thing is black and white.

Casey

If it was an AC-130, I expect the reporters to get it wrong. I doubt they understand how gunships work.

…Wondering if that craft carried a 105mm M102 on board? Reporters might think those were bombs landing.

Nonner

I figured that too, but it’s stuff like that, that makes me very skeptical of a lot of reporting like this. If they’re messing up details like that it makes me wonder what else they’re getting wrong.

Grimmy

It’s only noticeable when it’s a subject you’re familiar with that’s being reported.

But, the truth is that the “news” media is always wrong at least in the details on every subject covered. It’s often true that the “news” media is also wrong in the basics of stories as well.

The “news” media is made up of personnel with no skills other than those necessary to win the battles for print column inches or TV face time.

Sparks

A “transparent, thorough and objective accounting of the facts.” You mean like Benghazi, the VA scandals, the IRS scandals and pretty much everything this president has had his fingerprints on.

OldSoldier54

Yep.

OWB

No, nothing like those open and transparent investigations, which were nothing like that at all. This one is likely to look a lot more akin to kangaroo court.

2/17 Air Cav

Yep. This is an opportunity to fault the military. The other “investigations” would have faulted politicians, bureaucrats, and (horror of horrors)the Scrotum Shaver himself. So, this will not be dragged out for years. Somebody will have to hang–somebody low enough to have no association with the White House. The DOJ is on it and was by the time played out the 10 hole.

Thank God there was not an earlier picture of a patient with a Rebel flag next to his hospital bed.

Their opinions matter to me almost as much as do Hanoi Jane’s. Bless their hearts.

AW1Ed

For the Northern challenged members, “Bless their little hearts” is Southern code, and it most certainly is NOT a blessing.

A Proud Infidel®™

Ya mean they say that instead of flying the New Jersey State bird? /sarc

AW1Ed

Much more nuanced that that, API, bless your heart.

😉

Grimmy

Add little before heart (or even worse, precious little) and yer down into fightin’ words territory.

2/17 Air Cav

It can be. It’s sorta like fahgetaboutit. It has more than one meaning.

You would think there would be some professional courtesy between Nobel Peace Prize winners (2009 & 1999), but I guess not.

gitarcarver

If only there were women as part of the special forces combat teams this wouldn’t have happened.

A Proud Infidel®™

Or some LGBT types there to hold hands and sing “Kum-ba-yah” to make things better!!

I’ve heard rumors that Taliban were in the building. Let us also consider this from the MSF:

MSF has denied there were any armed Taliban on the hospital grounds at the time of the attack. “The compound was not entered by Taliban soldiers with weapons,” Stokes said. “What we have understood from our staff and guards is that there was very strong, very good control of what was happening in and around the compound and they reported no firing in the hours preceding the destruction of the hospital.”

(my emphasis)

Very interesting word choice. I am reminded that in Iraq mosques were strictly off-limits, unless they were used in military efforts, such as firing from the mosques, or used as armories. I don’t doubt many here can affirm that from their own experience.

I strongly suspect MSF literally got caught in the crossfire while aiding the enemy.

OWB

That’s all that matters to lefties and the otherwise mentally impaired – the evil guns didn’t do anything even though the bad guys were hiding out there. Therefore, the evil folks with guns had no right to KILL any of them just because they were evil men who had themselves committed all manner of evil deeds. It was all Bush’s fault anyway.

Evil. Colonizer. Corporate blah-blah.

AW1Ed

If one is sewing up Johnny Jihad so he can go out and fight another day, Congrats! You are now a target. Go to stupid places, play stupid games, and win stupid prizes.

FatCircles0311

We should get a congressional investigation so we can know the exact number of enemy KIA when this “hospital” was attacked. I have a feeling it out numbers the civilians and I also have a feeling once it was taken out enemy fighting magically stopped. Instead of being a bitch the DoD should be out in front of this owning it. I guess Bama and Co. Though won’t have any of that and instead will continue to throw the military under the bus to appease to their real constituants which are Islamists and America haters.

Just An Old Dog

I’ve seen some documentaries on Doctors Without Borders. There is no doubt they do some good work helping the poorest of the poor.
One of the things that really stuck out was an incident where one of the Doctors had to go off and cry her eyes out because she was literally chosing which people got a chance to live and who died.
It was not from her performing any surgery. She simply had to choose which people got to get on trucks and go to a relief center There were hundreds there and only 5 Trucks.
She was basically choosing who would have to die of malnutrition.
I can’t fault or insult the dedication of the volunteers.
However, DWB needs to stop rendering aid to combatants, or in areas where conflict is inevitable and there is a large chance of them being utilized by a faction.

E-6 type, 1 ea

I did see a funny meme on FB the other day that said Doctors Without Borders won a Nobel Peace Prize, and Barack Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize, which makes Barack Obama the first Nobel Peace Prize winner to bomb another Nobel Peace prize winner.
