Category: Tuesdays with Claymore
Having read through some of this week’s features, I can only say that one has to be a special kind of stupid to post anything on DU.
Also, isn’t it interesting that the folks who demand others be tolerant of their “whatevers” are the least tolerant of others’?
While this statement is true: ‘The truth of the matter is that men sports generate massive amounts of revenue. Women sports barely stay afloat’, the comments responding to it make it clear that the democrap morlocks of DU would complain, no matter what.
When the NBA was on strike a while back, women’s basketball was broadcast on TV. My mother, who like the Bulls, watched the women playing and said she was impressed with their skills as players. But when that strike was finally settled, the women’s section completely disappeared from the screen. The results of women competing seldom even get a nod from sports reporters at all.
But to point at sexism as the root cause of a lack of interest in women’s sports is a blatant disregard for the fact that most people just don’t give a crap about it. And those dumb, griping dumbasses can’t even acknowledge that.
I also believe the one truly important aspect of women’s soccer that is missed is who their actual market should be.
They should be selling to families with girl athletes, that’s how the first go round of women’s pro-soccer went and it started to find some success. Then they became arrogant in thinking their product was selling across demographics and stopped marketing to families with daughters….when their original season ticket holders had daughters who went to college their revenues plummeted and they folded up…
Under no situation are a group of young men buying season tickets to women’s soccer. But families with daughters routinely find the atmosphere far more family friendly and the soccer to be quite good.
The women’s game is slower at every level, but it is often technically excellent and interesting. They just need to understand their appeal and where their real demographic lies. No dad wants to take his daughter to see a men’s game where you are dealing with drunken buffoons swearing at the top of their lungs…the women’s game changes that dynamic and works for families. They just need to understand it’s a constantly rotating set of season ticket holders who leave after 4-6 years depending on when their daughters reach that college age and focus marketing on recruiting new families each year.
Read the “Leaving DU”. One was enough.
Normally I would comment that “with questioning comes the beginning of hope and wisdom.”
But in reading through those glitter farting unicorns, ummmm, I think not.
Reading the one about the Confederate Battle flag being removed from the truck gave me some hope. There were people on there calling it wrong and asking if the people supporting it would still feel the same way if it was a rainbow flag.
