Lest We Forget
Saw this while beginning segment 2 of travels this morning. Thought it was apropos for this weekend, so I got a quick photo. A full-resolution copy can be viewed here. It’s somewhat backlit due to time of day, unfortunately. Oh well.
May the fallen rest in peace. May the nation be worthy of their sacrifice.

It’s a nice monument=kudos to the state of Florida for recognizing their guard soldiers.
I am curious about one thing though-the monument says something about being the oldest militia in the country and I thought that that was the “ancient and honorable” artillery in Massachusetts. Is there some dispute about who was first?
I believe Florida makes that claim because of Spanish forces that once garrisoned St Augustine. I personally think the claim is BS, because the USA traces its’ heritage to the 13 English colonies that rebelled in 1776 – and Florida wasn’t a part of the USA at the time. Florida became a US possession well afterwards.
