Weekend Open Thread

| May 22, 2015

Elaine Ricci

I’m already gone for the weekend. I’ve been gone a couple of hours now – on my to Fort Bragg. I haven’t been there since 1990, the last year I was a TAC NCO for the 1st ROTC Region Advanced Camp. I got home to Vermont from Advanced Camp to a set of orders for Garlstedt, Germany and then a few months later to Desert Storm. In fact, Hussein invaded Kuwait while I was driving up I-95 from Fort Bragg.

It seemed like a good inaugural trip for the TAH Blogger Assault Vehicle.

That picture? Well, it was seen in Murphy’s in Old Town Alexandria, VA the other night. Since it’s Friday night, I know some fellow takes time out from chasing trannies around DuPont Circle to troll the pages of TAH and I thought I’d let him know that we’re still looking for poor Elaine Ricci and we know what he did.

However, Paul Wickre has finally succumbed to pressure to replace his mailbox, according to Hack Stone who sent us these pictures;

Wickre mailbox (1)

Wickre mailbox (2)

By the way, an administrative note; Apparently, Facebook is working on some changes to their thing and we’re having trouble interfacing with their new thing, so we’re working on fixing that. Serves us right for depending on Facebook for our traffic.

I’m the first post. Heeee Hawwwwww !!!!!!

nbcguy54ACTUAL

Being first means YOU get to pay the child support…

Skippy

I’m all done with that.
I hope, 🙂
I can’t think of any other places in my wild days that I may have gone swimming.
Other then me ex wife, but then again you never know

nbcguy54ACTUAL

Yep. People used to ask me “how many kids ya got?” to which the standard answer of “I’m only paying for two” got me strange looks…

Skippy

LMAO !!!!!! Damn I wish that would have crossed my radar when I was younger Lol… If I did that now my current wife would kick my Aress

3/17 Air Cav

Back in 1981 I was paying 500.00 a month for my two children, which was a little on the high side. My ex always wanted more. Until they came to live with me. She never paid a dime!

Twist

My ex was ordered to pay $40 a month in child support. In 13 years I haven’t seen a dime.

Skippy

500 ??? Holy crapola you must have been making some good money. My ex back in the late 90s was mad because I had full custody and did not have to pay her any child support,

Skippy

Hondo. I have a question for you are you tracking on the turd in Texas and the house he got claiming to be paralyzed??????

A Proud Infidel®™

I read a little about that this week, how soon will we see him featured on TAH?

Skippy

I hope soon

Silentium Est Aureum

And the DNA test says, you are NOT the father!

So you got that going for you at least.

squueeeeeeezzzzzzzing a fat Giduck.

John Giduck – the turd with a face!

Pinto Nag

I’m headed for Glacier Nat’l Park this weekend. Yay, me! 😀

Hondo

Enjoy. Been decades since I’ve been there – but as I recall, it was truly spectacular.

Dave Hardin

I am envious as hell. Wish I was there. Stunning place. Have a grand time and be safe.

NICE! “Gods Country” Way better than my plans…which will likely resemble this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMuXI_69Z6E

Pinto Nag…….its Gods country, my deceased wife is from Glacier Park. I’m originally from Missoula. I envy you! have fun!

Combat Historian

I did my ROTC advance camp at Fourth Region Fort Lewis back in the early ’80s. Been prior-enlisted, I found the whole advance camp thing a really interesting experience, what with some cadets been prior enlisted and having a lot of experience/knowledge, and most others pretty much clueless and the proverbial “babes in the woods”. God, can’t believe all that took place almost 35 years ago…

A Proud Infidel®™

Speakin’ of babes in the woods, you should have seen some of the latest Butterbars we’ve gotten in our unit. Geez, talk about still wet behind the ears, they’re less familiar with an M4 than a new “Joe” fresh out of Basic & AIT! Being a forty-something NCO, I get a kick out of the look on their faces when I relply with a “Yes Son, I mean Sir!” and then prove that I first put the uniform on before some of them were even conceived! I always prefer Former Enlisted Officers, they require little or no break-in time.

LIRight

@A Proud Infidel®™ – a complete change of subject.

In our last exchange here: http://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=59975, you suggested I “Arrogant Bastard Ale – just picked one bottle up at my local place and intend to drink it by myself over the weekend….will let you know what I think.

As you might expect I also picked up a few other brews to “try.”

A Proud Infidel®™

I’m sure you’ll like it. A few others I like are Red Brick Ale brewed in Atlanta as well as Skull Splitter and Old Engine Oil, I get them at a local Mom-and-Pop shop that sells wine and cigars as well. Speaking of see-gars, I’m going to have to burn one this weekend while having a glass of Scotch in memory of a Bro I lost while in the litterbox, he always said that if he was lost over there, he wanted us to remember him while enjoying a stogey in his honor.

David

Just tried Old Engine oil recently, and really like the ‘darker’ but thought the Select darkest to be unsat. My go-to is still the Young’s Double Chocolate. Recommendation – if you are ever in Dublin, there is a brewery in Temple Bar that bills itself as “Dublin’s Second Largest Brewery” which makes a double porter you can use to pave driveways…. wonderful stuff. Alcohol content about 10%, too.

A Proud Infidel®™

That sounds like something I’d enjoy, I’m betting I’d also best have a fork handy when I do so I can pick up the chunks in the bottom of the mug! 😀

LIRight

To tell you guys the truth…there ain’t a helluva lot out there that I don’t like! Unless Joe Teti is serving it (Good God, NO!!)

Where I am on LI, NY, there’s a small brewery, Bluepoint that has an excellent selection of what’s now called “craft beers.” Good stuff.

Gimme a Rheingold! Or a Piels! lol

Dennis - not chevy

I remember Piels real draft. How about Narragansett beer; whatever happened to that?

Silentium Est Aureum

Oh, they’re still around.

Personally I’d rather go with a Long Trail or Shipyard beer. Some of those are damn ed good.

Long Trail has a Triple Bag that goes about 9.6%, and it’ll sneak up on you.

H1

CH,
Same, same.
Was the last cycle thru for the year.
Interesting times.

Hondo

Enjoy the trip, Jonn.

Don’t think I’ve been back there myself since the early 1980s. Passed by a few times, but never had occasion to stop.

One year I might have to go back and see if I even still recognize Smoke Bomb Hill – or can even find it! (smile)

sj

Was through there a few months ago. Really has changed. Not many buildings in the Div area that I recognize…been a hell of a rebuilding there. Smoke Bomb is there but changed.

Old Trooper

Is that Wickre’s house in the pics??? If it is; then it dispells the lie he’s been rocking about all his money, because I’ve seen better homes in the bad part of Detroit.

A Proud Infidel®™

I call bullshit, there’s no beat-up worn out Jag under a temporary canopy in the driveway, or is that Escalade reserved for his highly paid ASSassins he’s promised to send out after us while he has another bottle of floor stripping compound?

Hack Stone

That is actually a house in Franconia VA. I pass by it when I alter my route from my job at an undisclosed location to my home in an undisclosed location in order to thwart terrorists or inbred death squads, IAW with my annual Anti-Terrorism PowerPoint training. The front yard has a flamingo. But not your normal flamingo. I will see if I can find the address and give a street view shot.

Perry Gaskill

The kind of person who would have a pink flamingo for a mailbox is the same kind of person who would put ketchup on a hot dog.

Silentium Est Aureum

Ketchup on a hot dog is as wrong as a soup sandwich served with a salad spoon.

I’d say as wrong as two altar boys screwing in the Holy water, but I don’t want people to think I’m blasphemous.

Hack Stone

Whenever I had a new guy assigned to me, I would have the new guy undergo the Hack Stone Screening Process. First question was ketchup or mustard on a hot dog. If he said ketchup, then we had a problem. Next, I asked if he was a cat or a dog person. Hack has always been a dog guy, usually mutts. Then, I would make him watch my VHS copy of Terror In Beverly Hills. You were not fully integrated until you wasted 90 minutes watching Frank Stallone kill a bunch of Middle Eastern terrorists.

sj

Local news had big coverage on All American week at Bragg yesterday including videos of mass drops and Div (I think) pass in review at the DZ. Enjoy the trip!

Yes, I enjoy Murphy’s and have for years.

To all, however you remember Memorial Day I wish each of you the very best. It is a solemn and honored time of remembrance for me. God bless each of you who have served. God bless each of us, who on this day, remember and mourn those we have known and loved and lost.

Well stated. I am going out to pay my respects today.

My opinion is that Adam Appel of Anchorage Alaska probably loves the taste of nuts – warm with a slightly salty after taste.

https://adamappelfraud.wordpress.com/2014/12/14/an-open-letter-to-adam-appel-of-anchorage-alaska/

Adam B. Appel is a licensed EMT in Alaska with a history of multiple fake charities and unlicensed security companies leveraging a fake military history. his entire work history is at the link – all short duration and mostly low wage jobs – yet he managed to pay cash to buy acreage in Hawaii. The source of his money was a mystery for a while until the Alaska Elder Fraud divion resolved the issue. He’d taken the money from his mom.

Adam Appel also has a legitimate business with his wife running a bouncy house rental business (For Fun Alaska). Beware when doing business with this guy.

http://news.yahoo.com/nasa-spacecraft-now-closer-moon-ever-151602176.html?bcmt=1432392066398-b8464cba-a23e-45d8-adf1-41118ee5a948_00003b000000000000000000000000-00b58ee5-fdb1-4115-be29-a82b72a9e774&bcmt_s=u#mediacommentsugc_container

So, is NASA tacitly admitting the 1969 Apollo Moon Landing Mission was indeed, a gigantic hoax, secretly created in a clandestine Hollywood studio?

As hard as it is for any agency in this Country to keep anything secret, I find that really hard to believe.

I remember watching it, LIVE, on television, and simultaneously listening to it on the microwave radio at Spangdahlem Air Force Base in Germany, when I was a Private First Class serving with the 11th Air Defense Signal Battalion of the 32d Army Air Defense Command.

Do you remember that scene in the 1987 movie, “THE HANOI HILTON”, where the POWs are handed their letters from home during their Christmas dinner?

So, what the Sam Hill is going on?

Ex-PH2

Geez, you should try reading the whole thing.

The LRO is the Lunar Reconaissance Orbiter. It’s an unmanned orbiting research platform looking for signs of water at both of the Moon’s poles, north and south. This was sent off months ago and has been orbting the moon for several months now. The practical application of this orbiter is that if there is sufficient ice at both of the moon’s poles, there won’t be a need to transport water to a lunar base from Earth. It has never been a secret. There has been a lot of publicity from NASA about it. I expect to see the US establishing a lunar base there before long.

The Chinese want to get there ahead of us, and I don’t think we should let that happen.

The same thing is going on with the Mars rovers. There is ice buried under Martian soil. The first expedition to Mars is expected to use that ice as water to created and build its habitat platform and buildings when the group arrives on Mars. There is also methane detected in Martian soil by one of the rovers, which could provide fuel for the Mars base and habitat.

2/17 Air Cav

I have to get this off my chest. I have seen a few stories lately asking why Americans fought and died in Ramadi only to have it abandoned to ISIS. The question is presented as rhetorical, suggesting that the Americans who fought in that city, shed their blood in that city, and died in that city now have been betrayed. Similar thoughts have been expressed here and, no doubt, many others wonder the same thing. That point of view makes sense, at least at one level: anything that is hard won is prized and those who won it want to see it kept, not given away. But that point of view treats the issue as one would a twisted commercial transaction. That is, the value of a thing is determined by the cost of the thing. Things don’t always work out that way in war. There are countless examples of this, where many lives are lost, and much suffering visited upon the opponents, for no material gain. World War I provides may provide the most stark and pronounced examples of this, but it is so in all war where a piece of real estate is bought with many lives only to be abandoned later, or an island or mountain without strategic importance is ‘bought’ with much loss of life. Were those lives wasted? No, not the way I see things, anyway. War is not a commercial transaction and value, if you will, is not solely or necessarily determined by acquiring or retaining a particular chunk of real estate. In fact, forget about the real estate. Put it out of mind for a moment. What other purposes are served and what other value attaches when those who wear our nation’s uniforms do their duty courageously, often heroically, as those who fought in Ramadi did? If you need my answers, I’ll provide them, but I really don’t think you do.

OWB

Can’t really disagree with you, A/C. It’s not so much about real estate for me as the real treasure lost, the lives of our young men and women who gave their futures for us. We lived through the squandering of so many once, and that was inexcusable. Must we do it again so soon?

Yes, I am grateful that the enemy was kept from our shores for a while, but it was never inevitable that they be invited in, yet that is what was done to us. May all who contributed to this rot in hell for what they have done to this country.

Ex-PH2

I found this on my front page this morning, regarding the disconnect between the civilian world and the military ‘world’, as if they are not just walled off from each other, but are in different solar systems light years apart.

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/us-military-and-civilians-are-increasingly-divided/ar-BBkaN9f

I read the entire article, which does make some good points about the disconnect, but my response is that the media bears a great deal of responsibility for it. Warfare is not the most pleasant subject to have to address on a day-to-day basis, but it exists, like it or not, and the threat to our own civilian population is very real.

Since we no longer have a draft, and no one is required to give a year or more serving his/her country in even a modest way, the cultural gap becomes wider with each passing generation. It should not take a disastrous event like the Sept 2001 hijackings to stir the banked embers of ‘my country, right or wrong’.

While voluntary service of various kinds goes on everywhere and does some real good, it’s connection to the ‘my country, my nation’ is tenuous and lost in the feel-good moment of having done something that gets approval from others.

It is not, however, the same thing as a ruck march to draw attention to daily numbers of ex-miliatry suicides. Neither does a parade with veterans going back to WWII included in it, like homecoming queens on a float, mean anything real to those watching the parade. There is no sense of inclusiveness there, even if the ruck march is open to all and the vets in the parade may or may not be willing to share their stories with non-vets.

Again, I blame the media for creating this gap in the first place. I truly do. They still harbor an embedded resentment of the military’s role in this country that started in the 1960s and carried forward after that. I don’t think they understand the consequences of having no Rottweilers in the yard, and probably never will. Whatever happens overseas, in other countries, has nothing to do with them.

Silentium Est Aureum

I’m of the age (old enough to remember Vietnam, too young to have served there) that many of my generation said they would only serve if we were attacked.

My retort to them, then as now, is that if we are attacked, it’s already too late. And to add to that, where were those same types after 9/11?

Yeah. Exactly
