Obama says you don’t need to stock up on guns

| December 9, 2008

From all reports, folks are buying up guns as fast as they can – it all started the day after the election from what I can tell. But Obama says you don’t need to stock up according to the Sun-Times;

As gun sales shoot up around the country, President-elect Barack Obama said Sunday that gun-owning Americans do not need to rush out and stock up before he is sworn in next month.

“I believe in common-sense gun safety laws, and I believe in the second amendment,” Obama said at a news conference. “Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear. I said that throughout the campaign. I haven’t indicated anything different during the transition. I think people can take me at my word.”

Ya know, I’m not a paranoid person, but if someone in government told me I “don’t need” to do something, it’d probably speed up my process of doing it. Remember this from FactCheck.org;

Obama was being misleading when he denied that his handwriting had been on a document endorsing a state ban on the sale and possession of handguns in Illinois. Obama responded, “No, my writing wasn’t on that particular questionnaire. As I said, I have never favored an all-out ban on handguns.”

Actually, Obama’s writing was on the 1996 document, which was filed when Obama was running for the Illinois state Senate. A Chicago nonprofit, Independent Voters of Illinois, had this question, and Obama took hard line:

35. Do you support state legislation to:
a. ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns? Yes.
b. ban assault weapons? Yes.
c. mandatory waiting periods and background checks? Yes.

Obama’s campaign said, “Sen. Obama didn’t fill out these state Senate questionnaires–a staffer did–and there are several answers that didn’t reflect his views then or now. He may have jotted some notes on the front page of the questionnaire, but some answers didn’t reflect his views.”

Yeah, see, we hear what he says, but his actions speak louder than his words. Why would he suddenly be concerned about legitimate gun buyers purchasing more guns? Isn’t that good for the economy? He should just shut up.

Of course we should trust the Obamamessiah. After all, look how well he has kept his promises to his own lunatic left-wing base voters.

Buying up guns won’t mean much when The Obama tacks on huge taxes so that a box of ammo costs $200…for the children, of course.

That’s why I didn’t buy another gun, but bought ammunition instead. Ammo lasts forever if properly stored.

Exactly right, Jonn. Obama’s actions far outweigh his words on this subject – it’s clear that Obama supports guns so long as he makes the decisions on who can own them, what kind people can own them, how much ammo one person can purchase, etc. etc.

It’s gonna be an interesting four years.

An armed people are free people. Obama (may peace and blessings be upon Him) says to not buy guns — don’t worry.

I’m a tad worried.

I support buying lots and lots of guns to stimulate the economy.
I do not see any down side to this. From what I hear, guns are also a sound financial investment because they don’t depreciate the same way other things you could buy do, and they will always be valuable. (I.e. even in total collapse if jewelery and gold are worthless, firearms will still have value.)
