Anthony Kolat, Beirut phony, doubles down on the dumb

| May 3, 2015

Anthony Kolat

Last week, we wrote about Anthony Kolat a former Marine who claimed that he had earned a Purple Heart for Merit at the Beirut Barracks bombing in 1983, you know, even though he had left the active force more than a year prior to the tragedy. Well today the news from his local media is that he’s backed off from the Purple Heart claim, with the proviso that he’s still looking for the paperwork – surprisingly, his copy of the orders may have been lost in a house fire. I swear, fire just hates military records;

“I refuse to take credit for receiving a Purple Heart until I can prove it,” Kolat said.

However, his retraction comes with a caveat.

Kolat, trained as a combat engineer, claims he received the necessary Purple Heart documentation and is searching through his own records for the necessary documents, some of which he says may have been lost in a house fire. He is also seeking help from veterans organizations and the National Archives and Records Administration regional facility in Kansas City, Mo., to find the documents that he says would clear his name.

You’d have thought that if he didn’t want to take credit for his Purple Heart before he had proof, he wouldn’t have been spouting off about it six years ago – or he would have at least begun his search for proof at about that time.

Well, the VFW doesn’t believe him because they’ve removed him from his position as the Post 2799 chaplain and he’s no longer a member.

Damned old house fires are just ruining people across the country, between house fires and floods, military records just aren’t safe. You’d think that in the age of computers there’d be a way to protect records better, wouldn’t you?

If I were him I’d hire Doc Chev. He should be able to track them down with a quickness. For a small donation of cheese and a couch to crash on for a few nights.

Ex-344MP

What kind of cheese would that be? Limburger?

I’m sure that Forgin’ Frank could fire up the old mimeograph machine and print him out a few docs for just a small fee…

Maybe it’s gremlins? No, not the car, maybe it’s them little green critters that look for Mimitary Records, and *WHOOSH!*, up in flames they go!

Maybe he spilled beer on them when he was watching WWE Smackdown.

Purple Heart for Merit:

Kinda like a MoH for doing a good job or a MSM for adequate work in the performance of one’s duties.

John Sammons

While I do not condone someone claiming the Purple Heart it has a long history and significance.

The Purple Heart had its genesis in the Revolutionary War and is one of the most recognized and respected medals awarded to members of the U.S. armed forces. Introduced as the “Badge of Military Merit” by General George Washington in 1782, the Purple Heart is also the nation’s oldest military award. In military terms, the award had “broken service,” as it was ignored for nearly 150 years until it was re-introduced on February 22, 1932, on the 200th anniversary of George Washington’s birth. The medal’s plain inscription “FOR MILITARY MERIT” barely expresses its significance.

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

Thank you Dr. Sammons for the background information.

I had NO idea!

Hondo

Yep. We had no idea. Just like regular readers here had no idea that the Purple Heart was not actually the first military decoration ever awarded to members of the Continental Army, or that it actually the third item the Army has used to recognize wounds received in combat.

Always ironic how those house fires always destroy their records on file at the NPRC too. Just the parts that they are lie’ing though.

Being a Marine wasn’t enough for Kolat… now that bytch known as karma is biting him in the ass.

Al Sandrik

Gee I don’t know having actually been there and having triaged/treated wounded on the Iwo Jima that day nobody offered me a Purple Heart “for merit(?????)” nor was I presented a Humanitarian Medal which is the more liky award. But if he were actually sent over as a replacement (which I doubt) he should remember what type of aircraft he was sent over on and that aircraft should have a passenger manifest. Just saying if he really were legit there are ways to prove it. There weren’t axlot of aircraft coming in with replacements as I recall!

Just an Old Dog

Al,
There were absolutely no Marines from the reserves called up to go to Beruit for the Bombing. The BLT/MAU on the ground, BLT/MAU enroute (Who went to Grenada) and the replacements flown in were all from 2nd Mar DIV, 2nd FSSG and 2nd MAW.
The idea of calling up a few reserve Engineers when an entire active Battalion was avaliable is outlandish.

Hack Stone

I believe that Al was being facetious when he posted his comment. In all of my time in the Marine Corps, I can rattle off the names at least five individuals that I served with, and keep in contact with quite a few of them. Maybe he can get a few of his fellow Marines to vouch for him. Then again, maybe not.

Hondo

I’ll take “Maybe Not” for $500, Hack.

Thunderstixx

Door #3 for me.

Dave Hardin

JOD is absolutely correct. BLT 2/8 was already in route. Secondly, BLT 3/8 was doing its LF6F training for the next rotation. There were 2 entire MEU’s ready to be deployed.

By the time that second bombing happened there were many Marines in those units that had already been there once.

There was no MARSOC at the time. All of the mission requirements for those type of deployments were the responsibility of the MEU’s.

Dumbass here was never called up to go do shit.

Big Steve

If Fred Sanford were still with us, he would say:
“Kolat, you big dummy. How about I give you five across your lips?”

Lee Benzo Sr.

He was never a part of Charlie Company 1st Plt 2nd Combat Engineers, who was attached to BLT 1/8 24 MAU. How do I know this? BECAUSE I WAS ! Kolat will never be able to prove legitimately that he was there, and I would have a little respect restored for him had he come completely clean in that 2nd article but this disgraceful douchebag continues to dishonor himself by not telling the truth. It’s a damn shame when an once honorable Marine disgraces himself & our Corps. BTW, You may now rot in hell Kolat.

Dave Hardin

Good to see you post Lee, you already know how I fell about it. Semper Fi Brother.

Daisy Cutter

Someone needs to patent the paper they use for military records and sell it as survival or camping gear. Apparently it it highly flamible and/or spontaneously combusts.

The Defense Department may want to switch to flame retardant materials.

That only solves half the problem. The other half is when the ex-wife throws a man’s military records in the trash out of spite. Not all, mind you, just the ones that will exonerate me with Stolen Valor laws.

nbcguy54ACTUAL

Yep. Those ex-wives are smart. They know just the right records to throw away while leaving the rest untouched.

Guard Bum

I was in the Marine Corps and stationed in California when the bombing took place…it was lonely what with the rest of the Marine Corps in Beirut….

Dave Hardin

So you are the one. I was wondering who the First Marine Division left behind to guard things. I hope you at least got a NAM out of it.

19D2OR4 - Smitty

Isn’t the National Archives in Saint Louis? If he is looking for his records in KCMO, then he is unlikely to find any, unless that is where the phony records are kept.

A Proud Infidel®™

Maybe (JUST MAYBE!) said records are still languishing away someplace in Panama alongside Shane Lardner’s?

Lee Benzo Sr.

I don’t care what or where he gets his records from phony or otherwise,he wasn’t in my platoon like he says he was.

Dave Hardin

I keep saying this; If you were in Beirut we either know you or know someone who does. You can not pose as if you were to that were actually there.

Ex-344MP

Apparently people keep forgetting the simple fact. It’s not like the post Vietnam military was huge or anything.

Bobo

In my neck of the woods, I see more than enough “Beirut Marine” stuff on cars. Maybe I’ll stop a few of them and ask if they know this guy.

Skippy

One thing can be said about this train wreck. And that would be….. Nothing !!!!!!
He’s still a TURD !!!!!!
That’s all folks……. 🙂 🙂

Yall all picking on him, but clearly his purple heart paper work caught the ptsd and is hiding. It might even go on a shooting rampage when it decides to come out of hiding. It isnt this guy’s fault that nothing is sage from the ptsd, that shit is contagious

Lee Benzo Sr.

Just out of curiousity, why are some of you hiding behind nicknames & initials. What are you trying to hide? I could never figure that out. Kolat probably did the same but who knows. Okay,go ahead…. Call me hat you will, but at least you’ll know who your saying it to. In short,be proud of who you are and show it!

Dave Hardin

You know I have been using this guys name for years now. Some who post are still active duty, working for a company, or have some other reason to post annon.

Seemed weird to me at first too, after a a while I began to understand. What gets said here ends up in a court room from time to time. Active military commenting on another active member could lead to charge sheets being passed around.

Some, I guess just like to stay annon.

Like you, I could give a shit, but I have come to understand why some do.

When I offer someone a hearty handshake and a warm cup of soup, I don’t want to be sued because of it or have a restraining order taken out against me by some catheterized light sport pilot who mistakenly thinks that speed over ground equals indicated air speed because he spent 99 cents on an iPad app. I like being able to cross tribal boundaries. YMMV.

Dave Hardin

Oh, and there is always that crazed Sniper/RECON SEAL super killer that wants to kill everyone. Hang around, I can promise you will see clowns fall from the sky, photo buffs self promote, secret PI’s with cheese fetish’s, mail box abuse, rustling bushes, corn field landing strips, shit stains, and there is always the rare but occasional one that steps up and tries to make things right.

Then there is always our buddy LAWTON, the fat fuck that wont talk to me. I keep hoping that Robert Lawton comes around some day. I got a special greeting for his ass.

Lee,
Very valid question. First off the owners of the blog know who most of us are. They have our Email addresses, and if something ever got out of hand we could be identified.
The main reason that most of us go by screen names is that there is a small percentage of people who are exposed here who are flat out fucking nuts.
By name they are Daniel A Bernath, Dallas Wittengefeld and Paul K Wickre.
They have constantly harrassed people by threatening calls and emails and went as far as issuing death threats.
Not to mention publishing completely horrible websites accusing people of being convicted pedophiles, etc.
Well the wheels of justice do turn rather slowly, but to be honest I don’t need my family stressed out about some nut case calling them.
I really don’t need some of my family ( or friends) going to jail for taking matters into their own hands and doing something drastic.
Some of our members here, and the blog owners have borne the brunt of the craziness because wackos like Bernath knew their name. He has bought my Screen Name up as being a defendant in his lawsuit, however because of the anonimity provided by the owners of this blog I can speak my piece without worrying about some piece of shit sending me a bogus supeona, calling my house or spamming my email.

Mr. Blue

Most posers tend to have something really seriously wrong in the head, pathologically so.
To protect their little fantasy world, many will turn to very nasty means to make the truth go away. Multiple frivolous lawsuits, harassing calls to employers, “SWATting”, fake web pages, ect.
This sort of thing can intimidate most folks into staying quiet, into letting these fools go on with their fakery.
