Maryland National Guard in Baltimore

MDARNG in Baltimore

Chief Tango sends us a link from the Washington Post which reports that about 2000 Maryland Army National Guard troops will be in Baltimore Thursday to “protect the lives and property of law-abiding citizens of our state” much to the chagrin of folks like Brooke Baldwin;

“We are working in direct support of the Maryland State Police and Baltimore City Police and being tasked by them,” Breitenfeldt said.

He added that they are trained and equipped to protect the lives and property of “law-abiding citizens of our state.”

“We are as proud of the role we play serving our communities as we are of our role protecting our state and nation,” Breitenfeldt said. “Marylanders should be reassured that the National Guard is carrying out a well-established plan to ensure the safety and well-being of all law-abiding citizens.”

Ya know why? Because most law-abiding, peaceful Americans are comforted by the presence of uniformed and armed National Guard troops on their streets. The only people who aren’t comforted are the criminals…and CNN reporters. But that’s redundant.

Well, actually, it makes me very uncomfortable to see troops on American streets, absent a natural disaster. I don’t like it at all that military personnel are needed to deter violence. Makes me queasy.

GDContractor

Absent an armed citizenry and a civilian chain of command that is willing to protect private property, behold.

Flagwaver

That’s actually the role of the National Guard. It’s not technically a breach of Posse Comitatus if it is a state militia (i.e. National Guard) deploying.

Though, technically, it is a disaster. A disaster created by the dimocraps in charge who wanted to give the thugs their own place to destroy. I say, next time, they let the animals destroy their homes, property, and livelihoods.

Foxbat40

I think the point he was making is that it is better to see them and not need them rather than needing them and not having them.

But this is a sad state of affairs in such a liberal state.

Had the Baltimore management team from the mayor to the chief of police and DA done their jobs over the last twenty years this would be unnecessary.

There are many cities where the death of a young black male at the hands of police does not incite a riot.

Often times that is a direct result of a clear, transparent policy of police investigation for both black and white perpetrators who die at the hands of police for whatever reason.

If the community sees the integrity of the system, and understands that system will punish as well as exonerate based on the evidence the community tends to believe that justice is working as well as can be expected. While no one wants to see dead perpetrators during the arrest process a clear and honest investigative process maintains a sense of respect for the community by the police and the government. That’s often all that’s needed to avoid community wide dissent and violence.

In other communities, the constant coverups and exonerations when unwarranted create an underlying tension that can erupt over virtually any incident whether appropriate or not to ignite that violence. We’ve seen that as well, and at that point those local governments no longer maintain the consent of the governed as being a legitimate source of government, integrity, or justice.

I am comforted by knowing that at any given time, I am likely surrounded by neighbors, lawfully carrying concealed weapons… except when I go to Starbucks, which is never.

Pinto Nag

You might be surprised how many armed citizens you find at Starbucks. We had a “Second Amendment Day” at one here not too long ago, and I couldn’t get near the joint because it was PACKED!

The queasiness I feel when I see troops on our streets has nothing whatsoever to do with the need for them. I certainly get that the show of strength is an effective deterrent, even if the troops’ rifles aren’t loaded. It strikes me as something foreign to the American experience (almost un-American), despite the many number of times over our history that troops have been employed to keep the peace. I suppose it has something to do with the exercise of power by government, letting us know who is in charge and wielding the biggest club.

2T451USAF

It should be foreign to the American experience, but inasmuch as the very first incidence of troops being used to put down a protest was in 1791 under George Washington I’d say it’s actually integral to the American experience. I totally agree with you, though, that it’s the government’s way of letting us know who wields the biggest club. It also puts the American soldier into an uncomfortable position. When a soldier is protecting and defending the Constitution from domestic enemies, how does he make the call as to whether the enemy is the citizens or the government?

Hondo

Actually, the situation here isn’t one of Federal troops being used whatsoever. This is a state NG mission. They have much more LE authority than if under Federal authority.

2T451USAF

Ah, yes, thank you for the clarification. I guess this is a different bottle of fish (hat tip to Spc. Tattersall).

Maryland is calling in the wrong units for the wrong disturbance. They should call in –
Companies A and C, 1/145th Infantry and Troop G of the 2/107th Armored Cavalry, Ohio National Guard (ARNG).

LOL (four dead in O-hi-o).

You think Brooke Baldwin’s comments were bad. How ’bout the twitter buttpain aimed at Whole Foods:

Shalom

Wasn’t just them. The local Kosher eateries also brought food out to the LEOs. Tov Pizza and Kosher Bite supplied pizza, hot dogs and beefburgers (no ham, of course…) as well as bottled water.

Kinda old ET1

Asshats. Bucket loads of twating asshats.

Pinto Nag

Whiners gonna whine. I can’t blame a merchant that knows who to thank for his safety.

68W58

The professionally aggrieved are always looking for something to be outraged about-they don’t even try to live up to the standards that they claim to hold other to.

Screw ’em.

David

according to the complainers, NO child in Baltimore eats except at school. When school is out they starve… sounds like all those food stamp programs are wasted there and should be terminated. Send all that money to school lunch programs.

Thunderstixx

I continue to wonder about all these charities that say they are combating hunger in any city USA…
Holy shit, we give out billions in food stamps and people are still hungry…
How the fuck does that work ???

UpNorth

They spend the EBT money on 40 ouncers, cigarettes, srippers and casinos? Just a quick guess.

Naaaw, PERISH THE THOUGHT!! /sarc

Ex-PH2

And the moment the NG show up, the crowd suddenly disappears. That’s interesting. If the mayor in that city weren’t so incompetent, none of this might have happened in the first place. And where were the parents of those out-of-control brats who started that crap in the first place?

Don’t whine at me about a grocery chain giving food to soldiers when you can’t keep your own children under control and stop them from wreaking the havoc that THEY started.

Ex-PH2

Anyone who thinks it isn’t KIDS making trouble is not paying attention.

AW1Ed

Another flash mob. This is the entirely predictable result of an entitlement population raised without a positive male role model in the family, uneducated, and with no marketable skills. Another generation on welfare. I’d like to thank the shade of LBJ and his Great Society for inflicting this on us.

FatCircles0311

Libtard paradise in action.

Hi everyone

I don’t understand something. Everyone always talks about red lines.

Why didn’t the police take a can of red spray paint, draw a line across the road and say, “you cross this, you answer to God.”

Now the Army is in Baltimore? Why? Because the police couldn’t do their job or weren’t allowed to?

Oh wait it’s more complicated than that.

Actually no. It’s not. Step over the red line, answer to God. It’s THAT simple.

I just want to weep for liberty and freedom. I’m surprised the Statue of Liberty hasn’t just crumbled in shame.

Seriously? FUCK these punks! Pull UP your fucking jeans, and get a fucking job!

OWB

Can we ponder how many of these Guardsmen are from the communities they are being sent to protect? No, it doesn’t make an iota of difference except to the whining, racist, willfully ignorant lefties. In reality, “outsiders” may be better at establishing order than are those tied to the community, since they have already proven not to be capable of forcing peace be kept. Or something.

Thunderstixx

Fuck ’em…
Evacuate all those that are not believers in the liberal utopian dream…
Then nuke the place…

Pinto Nag

The minute anyone tried to evacuate the city, everything liberal with feet would be on the transport, absolutely certain the Real Utopia was wherever the transports were going. They believe we have the unicorns, skittles, and rainbows stashed somewhere and are keeping them all for ourselves.

Ex-PH2

Shhhhhhhhh! That’s a top seekrit thingy!!!

A Proud Infidel®™

I SECOND what Ex-PH2 said, THE LAST THING WE NEED is more liberals migrating and infesting other locales, look at what the damn things have done to WA, OR, and CO!!!

19D2OR4 - Smitty

Did their CSM not go in with them? I see an LMTV without a drip pan, and a Soldier without a PT Belt. He also has his flex cuffs coveniently affixed to his mag pouch. HOW ARE THEY TO SURVIVE WITHOUT DRIP PANS AND PT BELTS.

It appears the situation is worse than at first glance

“Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he will eat for a lifetime.” – Old Japanese proverb

In today’s reality proven true by liberal politics, “Give a man one or more of someone else’s fish every day, and he will become a social parasite always demanding more. He’ll be wanting to destroy other peoples’ property when he doesn’t get his way like a spoiled child demanding something.”

AW1Ed

“Give a Korean shopkeeper a rifle, and he will defend his property against social parasites threating his livelihood.”

“Stupidity should be painful.”

“Never fuck with an old man, he didn’t get there by being stupid, and he’ll just kill you.”

Maxims of AW1Ed, circa 2015.

NOT just rifles AW1Ed, plenty of the Korean Shopkeepers used shotguns which are much better for Close Quarters Urban Combat! 😀

Freddie Gray died on April 19th. Baltimorons thereafter went on a looting spree, destrying businesses, pelting police with rocks, bottles, and the occasional miscellaneous heavy object. The National Guard was called out to restore order and, recently, indictments were against six police officers whose chances of a fair trial are about nil. The violence must stop. Light a candle. And this weekend, in that spirit, 29 people were shot and 9 are on a slab. That makes 47 bodies. The number shot by police? Zero. Really, can’t we all just get along and give peace a chance?

2/17 Air Cav

Sorry. That’s 47 bodies since Gray died.

A Proud Infidel®™

WHOOOOAAAAA, you’re using facts and logic in your statements 2/17. Remember that liberals are as allergic to facts and logic as hippies are to soap, water, and honest work. You might get called a racist by somebody!
