Wednesday morning feel good stories

| April 29, 2015

This morning first feel good story is a follow up from an Arkansas story we did a few days ago where a random guy saw an old man being accosted by seven youths;

It happened in the parking lot of the Kroger store on Chenal Parkway, where officers say an elderly man was being attacked by seven men.

The armed shopper drew his gun and warned the attackers to stop. By the time police arrived, the group and the victim were gone.

We caught up with “Gene” to find out why he decided to get involved.

“If you see a crime happening and you see someone getting injured and you have the ability to stop it, you should,” said the armed shopper.

Good job, Gene!

The next story comes from Texas where Matt Kelly noticed a strange car in front of his home after he pulled into his garage. After watching the car for a while, Matt closed his power garage door, but someone jumped out of the car and tried to trip the sensors to keep the door open.

“I just let out a yell like, ‘Hey!,’ as loud and as nasty as I could sound and they jumped and shot twice,” Kelly said.

The suspect was armed and the bullets pierced Kelly’s garage door and the back of his Suburban, which was parked in his garage.

Another shot was fired into the air.

The men took off without saying a word.

“He was closer to me than my gun was,” Kelly said. “That’s why I screamed rather than go for my gun. I didn’t have time.”

Kelly thinks the men wanted more than his wallet or the keys to his SUV, he believes they wanted to get inside his house.

Yeah, if you see something suspicious, you should have your gun within reach. Matt was lucky that the criminals need range time.

Finally, from Alabama, comes the story about a fellow who murdered a woman and took another hostage. While police were hunting for the man and woman, they showed up at a fellow’s house trying to get help. He turned them away with a gun in his hand;

The next morning, a neighbor called 911 after Minor and Grinnell knocked on his door for help.

“He pulled a gun or a shot gun on them and told them he couldn’t help them,” says Harris.

“Law enforcement was driving through and checking all the empty buildings,” says neighbor Ray Hufstetler.

Hufstetler says it was a flurry of activity for a usually quiet part of the county.

“The helicopter came by after they found the truck they some dogs come in and try to track them down. But they were unsuccessful,” says Hufstetler.

As deputies pulled up to an abandoned chicken house, Grinnell, with bruises on her face, asked officers for help.

“As soon as those cars pulled up, he bailed,” says Harris.

After a short chase, Minor was arrested. As of now, he faces charges of assault and kidnapping.

Ironically, Minor was hiding out in a chicken coop.
