Leo Keligan; old phony
Someone sent us this article about 88-year-old Leo Keligan who spoke at a Tribute to veterans last year;
Starting in just the twelfth grade, Captain Keligian has been a part of the Coast Guard, Navy Seals, and the United States Army. During World War II, he participated in the war in the Pacific Theatre, and was active from the South Pacific to Japan. After World War II concluded, he was sent to the U.S. Army and promoted to Captain. He was on active duty during the Korean War, and six years later during the Berlin Crisis. In 1983, he was redeployed with only four hours’ notice. He did not return back home for three long, exhausting years. Captain Keligian is one of the most inspirational Veterans I have ever met. My eyes kept reverting back to his olive green coat, which was decorated and adorned with many medals. But what made him noteworthy were not the medals, but his humility.
Yeah, his humility. When World War II drew in the United States, he had just turned 15 years old. By the time it ended, he was 18, so just the math ruins his story. He was never a SEAL nor was he in the Coast Guard. During the Korean War, he was in the Army Reserve and he didn’t deploy to the war. The only thing that might be true about his narrative is that he was activated for the Berlin Crisis in 1961;
I don’t know what would have tempted the Pentagon to call him back to active duty in 1983 for three years when he was a 57 year-old retired captain, but that isn’t listed on his FOIA, either. Mary sent his whole narrative to the NPRC and they verified none of it.
The EIB was an odd choice, along with the EOD badge. The Army of Occupation Medal probably doesn’t belong above his self-awarded Soldiers Medal either.
Yeah, I know, I’m a big meanie for picking on this old guy, but it’s more than likely that he’s been telling these lies for decades – you know, because of his humility.

Yesterday, my 73 year old neighbor died. He came over from Italy at 18, worked construction for ten years, then worked for Ford. Retired, and had a wonderful garden. He didn’t tell big assed lies about what a frikkin war hero he was. Fuck this old loser piece of shit.
Since he was in the Army Reserve, I think the “Air Force Reserve Medal” entered on his DD-214 is a clerical error.
It’s probably supposed to say, “Armed Forces Reserve Medal”.
I remember when I got mine that I thought the Army had made a mistake, since I was only briefly in the National Guard.
But, when I read the regulation, apparently, I had qualified, as they also counted my years of active duty service.
They did the same thing when I was awarded my Ten-Year Service Pin as a federal employee, counting my years as a soldier in with my time as a civilian federal employee.
When I lived at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi, the staff at the Biloxi VAMC, when seeing the initials, “AFRH”, would refer to it as the, “Air Force Retirement Home”.

So, he was an AG officer who is pretending to be an Infantry officer and who is EOD. Apparently he was a pretty piss poor AG officer if he couldn’t manage to get a few faked awards into his 2-1 before he left or even a real AAM signed off by his command.

And he was “active” in the South Pacific? I’m not at all what that means. Perhaps the author meant that he was active in South Pacific, the show. Yeah, that must be it. Leo Keligan was an extra in South Pacific. I think that’s him in the back right in the opening scene. A very good clapper was he.

I don’t cut this old buzzard any more slack than I do the younger phonies. Leo’s claims are absurd and he should be ashamed of himself. He looks ridiculous making the scene in that retirement home or wherever it is with his uniform… complete with the cover on, indoors.
Yeah, sometimes they are caught when old but lied for decades before being caught. And once in a while, they die with the lie and leave it for their families to suffer the shame of the lies.

His FOIA tells the truth about him, and I believe that. The math, however, is not as simple as it looks. I can’t recall his name at the moment but a Marine earned the Medal of Honor while fighting on Iwo Jima at age 15.
You’re thinking of Jack Lucas, who was 17 when he got the Medal of Honor.
I stand corrected. But I was wrong on two counts. He was actually 14 when he enlisted in the Marine Corps.
