Congressmen and their scary gun

| April 22, 2015

Buck & Gowdy

Somehow the Washington Post thinks it’s news that Congressmen Buck and Gowdy posed for this picture in Buck’s office with a patriotically decorated rifle. According to Congressman Ken Buck, the bolt carrier group is in Colorado while the gun is in his DC office, so it’s nothing more than an expensive paper weight;

Lt. Kimberly Schneider, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Capitol Police, said members of Congress “may maintain firearms within the confines of their office.” Not only that, Schneider said, members “and any employee or agent of any Member of Congress may transport” weapons within the Capitol grounds as long as the “firearms are unloaded and securely wrapped.”

In an interview Tuesday, Buck, a House freshman, said he sought approval from numerous authorities: “I went to the Ethics Committee; I got permission to accept the gift” from a business. “I went to Capitol Hill police; I got permission to bring it into my office. They went to the D.C. police; they got permission for me to transport it into the District. I went to TSA, and followed all of the regulations in getting it onto the plane and getting it here.”

Nonetheless, it’s worthy of a Washington Post story. Something, something, Congressional privilege, something, something, scary gun.

For some reason the incident is under investigation, according to The Hill;

Having the AR-15 in the District could be a violation of the city’s strict gun laws, and the city attorney general’s office has referred the matter to police, a spokesman told The Hill.

“The matter has been referred to the Metropolitan Police Department for further investigation,” he said.

Good, do that. I mean, what else does the Metro PD have to do? 31 homicides in the District so far this year, but yeah, investigate this incident.

According to Article I, Section 6, of our divinely inspired Constitution of the United States of America, Congressman Buck doesn’t need anyone’s permission to possess and carry a functioning, fully loaded firearm to and from his official business, either openly or concealed, as no police authority has the right to stop or detain him.

Maybe our congressional representatives should study what’s written in our divinely inspired Constitution of the United states of America, which incidentally, they publicly swore a solemn oath before Almighty God to uphold and defend, as did we all.

Pinto Nag

The US Constitution is a lot of things, admirable being one of them, but it is NOT ‘divinely inspired.’ Not one of our Founding Fathers has ever been declared a prophet or a saint. It is a man-made document, and subject to all the shortcomings and failures that any man-made object is subject to.

Swearing an oath to anything doesn’t necessarily make it so, unless the person doing the swearing is honorable. That virtue is in short supply in our government at the moment, and has been for some time now. Without honor and integrity, an oath is so much empty air.

John Robert Mallernee

@ PINTO NAG, Et Alii:

I try to get people to think, which is why I keep using that phrase, “divinely inspired”.

In my chosen faith, The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints, it is our declared basic belief that the Constitution of the United States of America is a divinely inspired document written by men who God raised up for that very purpose.

We also firmly believe that America is the “Promised Land”, blessed above all other nations, where no king shall ever rule, and that we will continue to enjoy the blessings of liberty only as long as we worship and obey the God of this land, who is Jesus, the Christ.

I’ve forgotten who it was, but someone stated that our Constitution of the United States of America was written for only a righteous and God-fearing people, for no other society could live under it.

Pinto Nag

Just because you believe it, doesn’t make it so.

NASA has a magnificent picture of two galaxies colliding. COLLIDING. Galaxies. I’m sure the creatures that lived in those two galaxies thought God loved them, too. I’m sure they thought their societies were God-inspired, too. Now all they are is a shimmering swirl of dust and vapor in space.

The ONLY nation that God ever claimed to be special to him was the nation of Israel. Not Egypt, not Germany, not England, not America. We’re all just so many pieces of a giant chessboard — if even that.

Blaster

JRM, as a believer,I appreciate your words.

Semper Idem

I love America as much as anyone, but calling our Constitution ‘divinely inspired’ is a bit much! ;o)

Our Founding Fathers were just ordinary men. Granted, they were respectable by the standards of their time, but still just regular guys. They could and did make mistakes – they didn’t free the slaves, to name just one thing. There’s also the matter of the courts having authority to decide what the Constitution means, and they said that licensing gun owners is legal. We can disagree with that, but they have legal authority to make that stick.

From the article: “They went to the D.C. police; they got permission for me to transport it into the District.”

Sounds to me like there’s nothing to investigate to begin with. I think the city AG office is trying to pick fly shit out of pepper.

MustangCryppie

When the Post called Metro PD, the cops went “Uh, oh, we better investigate this ASAP.” Just the bosses sweatin’ the load.

UpNorth

Chief Lanier will get back to us, as soon as she moves her police car out of the Handicapped Parking spot she usurped. http://www.myfoxdc.com/story/28862441/dc-police-chiefs-cruiser-parked-in-handicapped-space

PavePusher

The thing that needs ‘investigating’ (translation: Nuke it from orbit) is why it required permission from the Police.

John Robert Mallernee

AMEN, Brother!!!

GDContractor

I wonder if they ransacked his office yet, looking for one spent cartridge… or do they only do that to us chumps i.e. “voters”.

On another note, did y’all see that Emily Miller is on the warpath with the DC Police Chief? She has pictures of the Chief’s car parked in a handicap space. Could get interesting. Go Emily GO!

rb325th

Idiots everywhere! My god!! It’s a gun!! It’s going to kill us all!! I can just envison it as a modern day version of Monty Pythons Holy Grail. Run away… Run away…

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Investigating the 31 homicides requires some time near the dangerous parts of the city Jonn.

Investigating the capitol allows for some nice luncheon experiences on the taxpayer’s dime.

This isn’t too complicated really, just more noise about a shiny object.

Kinda old ET1

That can’t make any noise unless you drop it on the floor.

Bobo

The fact that Congress has given themselves and their staffers the ability to avoid yet another law that the rest of us peons have to follow is the most troublesome aspect of this story. Is it any wonder why that organization is able to breed folks like Cynthia McKinney?

GDContractor

Yes, and the irony is that it is not “their” building and “his” office. It all belongs to us.

Pinto Nag

The perfumed princes are flaunting their privilege before the lowly peasants again, I see…

Silentium Est Aureum

Meanwhile, David Gregory gets hardly a second glance.

Score one for (in)consistency.

John Robert Mallernee

Your comment forced me to Google, “David Gregory”.

CBPH

This!

The difference with Gregory’s situation was he asked permission, was denied, and brought the magazine on the air anyway.

billy hill

Actually I hope they slam him and pursue charges. It will bring to light the insanity of DC and ridiculous gun laws everywhere (looking at you CA, MD, NY, CT, MA). Just like they should have done to that stupid reporter with the magazine.

Technically a bolt carrier is just a gun part even though it would make it non-functioning but anyone could put another in there. The lower receiver is classified as the actual firearm so yeah…still brought one into the district.

John Robert Mallernee

If only folks (including the congressman and the police) would adhere to what’s specifically written in Article I, Section 6, of our divinely inspired Constitution of the United States of American, we wouldn’t even be discussing this incident.

John Robert Mallernee

I hate making typos, and not being able to edit my mistakes!

Semper Idem

Relax, my friend; we all got what you meant. ;o)

The way I see it, if you got your point across, that’s all that matters, and to Hell with what the grammar trolls may say. We’re not writing prose here, right? Right – so don’t sweat it. ;o)

It’s common knowledge that when you’re exposed to something you’re afraid of, you’ll lose your fear of it, especially if you bother to do a little research on how it functions and how you can avoid getting hurt by it.

I used to be afraid of spiders, so I found out a lot about them. There are only a few that are lethal or even damaging to humans. Now I just don’t want them in my house. Or under it. But there they are, and I encourage them to leave.

Perhaps the fearful gunphobics could be encouraged to do the same thing – leave my house… for good. 🙂

A Proud Infidel®™

There will never be a shortage of effluviating idiotic snotweasels in Washington DC.

David

Well, it DOES have one a them illegal 30 round magazines…. they should definitely get the same charges as David Gregory did.

John Robert Mallernee

Not according to Article I, Section 6, of our divinely inspired Constitution of the United States of America.

MustangCryppie

Hmmm. Looks like they designed the rifle to match Gowdy’s suit.

H1

Gowdy said, “The only crime here is my suit”.

Climb to Glory

Uh oh. I think I can hear LTC. Bateman pounding away at his keyboard, writing another column that would put the likes of Bill Shakespeare to shame. Don’t make MasterBateman angry. You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.

MGySgtRet.

Yeah, I hate when that fucking blowhard, shit disturbing, whining, disgrace to the uniform gets angry….oops, misspelled hate…meant to say “don’t give two shits”…

Skippy

Oh NO not the scary AR-15. I’m so sick of the left wing media blowing shit out of per portion. And by the way doesn’t Congress in the end sign off on Laws in DC ?????
Because I’m finding it hard to believe with people flying birds on capital hill and all the damn crime that this would be a priority!!!!!!!!!

2/17 Air Cav

They look like a very gay tag team. “Come here, big boy, I want to show you my gun.”

Richard

Okay guys, you can stop holding your breath, it has a trigger lock.

That would be sarcasm.

Why does Mr. Gowdy looks so uncomfortable?
