14-year-old beats other girls because of PTSD

| March 23, 2015

In Indianapolis, a 14-year-old girl was arrested for beating another teen and a 5-year-old with her brass knuckles. Of course, everyone automatically blames PTSD for no real reason, but it’s everyone’s excuse for everything these days;

Shawn Taylor, the suspect’s mother, said her daughter needs counseling – not jail time. She says her daughter has been diagnosed with PTSD, though when we asked, she could not point to a single traumatic incident in the girl’s life.

We spoke with Taylor outside the courthouse Thursday. She said, “So long as she’s on the road to recovery, that’s all that matters.”

Well, it seems to work so well for the phonies to claim PTSD for their bad behavior, I guess all criminals have a case of the disorder these days. I’m surprised the whole country isn’t terrorized by the millions of legitimate PTS cases. But of course, legitimate PTS doesn’t make folks beat 5-year-olds, either. For some reason it’s the first thing out of people’s mouth these days.

For the record, I’m not saying that the teen couldn’t have PTSD, what I’m saying is that the disorder doesn’t cause the type of behavior that caused her to be arrested. By the way, she was already facing similar charges for another similar incident.

If you have a dog and it bites children you put the dog down.

L. Taylor

This article is not about dogs. There is no dogs in this at all.

She is a psychopath maybe. But she is a person.

Not a dog.

This is not grounds to execute someone.

2/17 Air Cav

Watch that subject/verb agreement, Lars. And why not start a GoFundMe page for her? I hear that she’s low on Gravy Train.

L. Taylor

I am not defending her. Or her actions.

I am taking issue with the comparison made and the conclusion that we should execute children.

David

So when do they become adults? There are those who would say that when a teenager uses a deadly weapon in an all-grown-up potentially lethal assault, they cross the line into “doing adult time” as well. Any thoughts on that?

A Proud Infidel®™

Larsie-parsie Rudy-poo, you sound like the type of bleeding heart that refers to people like her as “Victims of Society” while calling for us to hand them even more of our hard-earned paychecks. Have you ever lived outside of a Rudy-poo liberal la-la land?

smoke-check

I am sure she appreciates your support white knight.

Sapper3307

Lars do you want my ARCOM? I will include one AAM and a company certificate of appreciation.

nbcguy54ACTUAL

If she was five years older things would be different. At the rate she’s going however, she won’t last another five years.

On a separate note, how’s that naming a UC Berkeley building after a convicted cop killer working out, Lard?

desert

It would be if she was beating your ass with brass knuckles tho would’nt it? Or maybe your daughter, or wife or mother? The little p.o.s. is a “bad seed” and should be locked up permanently or gassed imho!

L. Taylor

Though I cannot even conceive of the fact that she attacked a 5 year old. That is insane.

2/17 Air Cav

You don’t have to conceive it, Lars. It actually happened. Say, how do you like the “report comment” button?

L. Taylor

I like it.

Though it is too bad it is probably just a way for some of the regulars to silence dissenting opinion.

The regulars like “whitey” and “GDContractor” will continue to post one line trollish responses with impunity because they are part of the in-group on the forum.

I could care less at this point. I know this board does not reflect the sentiment of most veterans.

Open Channel D

“In Group”??
You mean like a cadre?

I knew it! You and Chevy are on that LIKE A BOSS!

I doubt if they’re taking new membership applications, but you might try the Dutch Rudder Club, they’re always looking for new talent.

L. Taylor

No.

Virtual Insanity

Do you think it’s possible, maybe, that YOUR views don’t reflect the views of most veterans?

Hondo

Why, VI, his opinions probably are representative of all the veterans he knows – at UC-Berkely.

For the other 99.9+% of the nation? Eh, probably not so much.

Casey

Though it is too bad it is probably just a way for some of the regulars to silence dissenting opinion.

…And you wonder why you get such a lousy reception here. You consistently express bigoted points of view based on cheesy & inaccurate stereotypes. After which you jump to idiotic conclusions such as claiming that some regulars may use the new button to “silence dissent.”

First, go look up what “weasel words” means, then go back and re-read the threads you’ve participated in. They’re not trying to silence you, they’re just telling you what an idiot you are. I doubt you’ll be able to grasp the difference though.

GDContractor

Hey Lars, it is not my fault your illogic and ill-sourced bullshit can be refuted with a sentence or two. You can call me a troll but that doesn’t make me one, any more than it makes that “stylized cartoon” a member of the military. I have attacked nothing but your ideas. Quit making them easy targets.

OC

Wanna bet?

L. Taylor

Nice to see an “edit” function though.

Hondo

You could keep wishing for that. Or you could try drafting and proofing the comments using a word processor, then using your “copypasta” skills.

Bobo

Kid comes at a 5 year old using brass knuckles in my presence, kid won’t have to worry about court until released from hospital.

Really, I’m a very laid back guy. But, if you want to see an immediate and hostile reaction, abuse my family, a woman, a child, or an animal in front of me.

Jon The Mechanic

Pleasant when stroked, fearless when provoked type thing?

Bobo

To avoid persistent litigious lurkers from causing problems, let’s just say that some people have mistaken my willingness to accept crap for pacifism. Those who made that mistake didn’t make it a second time.

David Vert

Well the PTSD excuse could of been plausible if not for the brass knuckles. This sure looked more like a racial issue. Then she even escalated the crime by beating on a 5 year old. Yea, such a tough girl

So, if I show up with a [hearty handshake and cup of warm soup], I can get a pass if I claim PTSD? Is that how it works “mom of the year”? You’d be okay with that?
PTSD DOES NOT cause people to go to a park with brass knuckles and beat on other kids.

Hondo

I find it quite . . . interesting that the mom in this case cannot identify a single “traumatic incident” that her daughter had experienced.

I’m not a shrink, but I’m pretty sure surviving at least one such traumatic incident is a requirement for a valid case of PTSD. And I’d certainly expect any parent worth a damn to know if their 14 y/o child had ever experienced such an incident.

Dave Hardin

Parents of abused children often do not know anything happened until years later. Guilt and control are twisted dynamics in abused children.

If the mother is pushed to disclose any traumatic incident she will most likely claim she doesnt want to expose her child to the trauma of public humiliation.

Part of any legitimate treatment plan is accountability for their actions. Even if PTSD was a contributing factor, it is no excuse for not being held accountable. Not in this case or any other case.

Hondo

That’s at least theoretically possible, DH.

It’s also possible – and IMO, much more likely – that PTSD here is being used merely as a “justification of convenience” to try and beat the system, and that the claim is utterly bogus.

Dave Hardin

Oh, make no mistake about my opinion on this particular case, I agree completely.

I was referring to ‘I’d certainly expect any parent worth a damn to know’. It’s tragic but in the vast majority of cases even the best parents are unaware of abuse for a time, if they were aware they would put an immediate stop to it.

I would love to do a 9 point intake on this lady. Doubt she would like my recommendations.

Poetrooper

Hondo, ten bucks to your one, that mother couldn’t tell you what PTSD stands for much less any causative factors. It’s just an easy dodge they’ve picked up from TV.

UpNorth

Maybe mom is avoiding self-incrimination by dodging what gave the daughter the PTS. Or, not telling on her current boy friend.

medic09

What that little girl (the teenager) needs is the fear of God, or someone a lot closer, instilled in her. That is both the problem, and a piece of the cure. I’ll bet Mom needs a dose of it, too.

If I ever would have done anything remotely similar as a kid, or even been caught with brass knuckles without a hell of a compelling explanation – the old man would’ve taken off his belt right there and laid it into me a few times. A brutal thought, I admit (and I never did it to my kids as a result); but it sure as hell was a deterrent that reminded me that certain lines must never be crossed.

2/17 Air Cav

Miss Thug is to tried as a juvenile. She’s probably out already and, ultimately, she may have to sit in a detention center until she’s 18. That looks to be the severest consequence she can receive under state law.

OldSarge57

Did mom happen to leave her brass knuckles laying around and the innocent teen picked them up? Sounds more like a gang initiation scenario to me.

Poetrooper

Yeah, Sarge, I don’t know what kept me from picking up one of the sets of brass knuckles laying around our house and going to the park for a little stress therapy.

Oh wait…

Claymore

One question; where’s dad?

OldSarge57

Really, Claymore? You actually asked that question? I’m guesing it was sarcasm…

Claymore

rgr1480

That’s RACIST!~

ARCOM!

JimW

I don’t get it! Why is asking where the father is racist. I’m not following the logic.

Virtual Insanity

L Taylor will be here shortly to tell you why that isn’t funny, and you’re both racist.

Frankie Cee "loud and clear"

PTSD? H’mmm. In 7 years I have seen two of my dogs and my son, friends and relatives die of Cancer, 2 more of my dogs die of old age, and read about a shit ton of military deaths and injuries. I guess that I might be able to run amok, and just claim that I caught the PTSD because of that, and walk away Scot free.

Blaster

May God bless you and keep you. Loosing our loved ones is a part of life (even if it’s a pet, they’re part of the family too). I think it’s the worst part.

I’ll keep you in my prayers.

Sparks

It’s not that I don’t get it or we here don’t get it, it’s that America out there DOES NOT GET IT! They have been hard wired, through movies, TV shows, books and every uninformed sensationalist writers work, to identify and believe, PTS or PTSD EQUALS…crazed, violent and unpredictable. Though it is a perfect example, even before Rambo, it was the mindset. Since post Vietnam and “The Deer Hunter” to “Dog Day Afternoon” and such. Every veteran was a potential PTS case and therefore suspect. Now this very, very false definition of what PTS is and how it affects those with it, has caught on as a norm and gone beyond the stereotypes, to an acceptable “excuse” for any and all behavior, civilian of supposed veteran (often), for which the accused has no excuse. This kid and her mother need to both be [offered a hearty handshake and cup of warm soup] then sent to prison. No parenting or parenting like this mom, means no kids worth a damn, unless the kid is a one in a thousand or more exception.

nbcguy54ACTUAL

Sparks – if I may:

We have been hardwired to find a way to blame someone or something else for our OWN stupid decisions. PTSD is just one of the things. Personal responsibility is a thing of the past.

“It ain’t MY fault!”

Sparks

Jonn, I assume or whomever in Admin corrected my original post to be far more appropriate with, “[offered a hearty handshake and cup of warm soup]”. Thank you and my apologies for going overboard in my post. Sorry for the time it cost you.

unclewisconsin

I kid you not psychiatrists are diagnosing kids who have “suffered” from bullying with PTSD. Figured this out when an aquantence of mine who I know has no military background started claiming to have it. I was dumbfounded but not surprised. I guess nothing surprises me in regards to the pussification of America anymore.

Sparks

YOu know I posted because of the PTS issue before watching the video because the issue is so vast now. Having now watched the video, this kid is a street thug and ass hole. Her mother, times ten that. Both worthless shit stains on society. All she was concerned about, is well, “she’s getting help and that’s all that’s important”. Really, that’s all! What about the other girl and her FIVE YEAR OLD brother, beat down with brass knuckles? What say you about them mom? Just figure it’s normal “street shit” and they had it coming? Whatever works and keeps your kids in the home so you continue to get as much welfare and SNAP money as possible is the true goal of course. Funny the reporters never mentioned the condition of those attacked and how they are doing or bothered to interview THEIR mother.

Blaster

Sparks, I thought the same thing. She sounds like her daughter is the victim in this. At some point common sense is going to have to take over. When society is able to stop all of the PC bull and start being honest about everything, then we”ll be back on the right track. I hope I live to see it .

Nothing Special

The P in this case stands for PRE. At some point in the future, something traumatic is going to happen. And, the young lady in question is already stressed about that.

I am kind of surprised that no one has commented on the link below the cited story:

INDIANAPOLIS -The Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Services Board today voted to suspend the license of social worker Robin Paul, the clinic manager on administrative leave at an Indianapolis veterans’ clinic, after allegations arose that she sent an inappropriate and insensitive email to fellow employees regarding veteran suicide in December 2014.

Paul is manager of the Seamless Transition Integrated Care Clinic (STICC) at Roudebush Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Indianapolis. The Clinic focuses on assisting veterans who have recently returned from service.

On Dec. 18, 2014, Paul sent an email to the Clinic team with a subject line “Naughty Elf in the STICC” that included four photos of a Christmas elf character. One photo included a note next to the character that read “Out of Xanax please help!” and a caption that read “Self-medicating for mental health issues when a CNS would not give him his requested script,” according to a complaint forwarded by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.

Another photo depicted the elf hanging from a strand of Christmas lights and a caption that read “Caught in the act of suicidal behavior (trying to hang himself from an electrical cord).”

After the email and photos were made public earlier this month, the Roudebush Veterans Affairs Health Center placed Paul on administrative leave pending an internal investigation. (more at link)

Jonn…Roger That. Point taken.

Ex-344MP

Jonn…..This sucks. We can’t even have our own discussions on our own board because someone might get butthurt.

Ex-PH2

I watched the video posted by the news station.

PTSD, my fat Aunt Harriet. Where I come from (the Dark Ages), this 14-year-old girl is a juvenile delinquent with an unbelievable vicious streak.

medic09

Bingo. And she needs the fitting response for that.

Green Thumb

As we have seen time and time again here on TAH, people will lie about any and everything to get out of trouble.

Green Thumb

What is “report comment” about?

Green Thumb

Nevermind.

RM3(SS)

Sea Dragon

I’ve been prosecuting juveniles for over 16 years. She’s no different from most of the violent predators/thugs I see, and her mother is no different from many of the mothers I see. And I’ve never had anyone claim PTSD as an excuse.

Poetrooper

And now you have a precedent. What I keep thinking is wait till she’s in her early twenties, weighs over 200 pounds and can really do some damage with those knucks.

David

Heinlein wrote of how crazy the juvie system is – he compared it to never disciplining a puppy that peed and crapped on the floor constantly till it was 2, at which time when it did it again, you shot it. These kids get a pass and essentially no punishment till suddenly they are charged as adults and in serious trouble – no wonder they don’t have a clue how serious their behavior is. Personally, I am not sure treating them differently after the age of maybe 5 is justified – I sure as hell knew right from wrong when I was in grade school and would have known I was in BIG trouble had I done some of these things.

Somewhat related – “Madam Secretary” last night was concerned with PTSD and actually gave it respectful treatment – including listing many symptoms and NOT treating PTSD sufferers as time bombs. I’ve seen much worse.

Brown Neck Gaitor

Video was running before the fight ever started. Pre-meditation on her and the videographer’s part.

I also vote gang.

1AirCav69

My head just exploded.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

For some kids the best outcome is [offering them a hearty handshake] until they stop wiggling.

There’s no fixing a teenager who beats a five year old with brass knuckles…we as society need to stop thinking that all problems are solvable with a kumbaya style resolution.

Sometimes the rabid one needs [a warm cup of soup] to make things safe for the rest of us….

This time it was a beating, the next time it will be a murder. I’ve seen it far too many times to believe it goes the other way for these kids.

Blaster

Agree. Punishment is supposed to be, or cause a deterrent to crime/violence. Until we as a society make the thugs want to quit the things that they are doing, they won’t. It’s too easy to TAKE what you want especially when there will be no real punishment on the back side of the event.

This goes for any age. My kids act right because they know ill tear their butt up for them when they don’t.

Flagwaver

I don’t mean to sound racist or violent, because I am neither, but that little hood rat needs her arse beaten. Not beaten as in fists and clubs, but hickory switch and inability to sit for a week without wincing.

Just because I’m not a violent man does not mean that I do not support corporal punishment.

Big John

Right on!!!

Thunderstixx

It is all part of the failures of the “Great Society” from LBJ, a proven racist and quite possibly the second worst CinC in the history of the United States.
I see it all the time at Walmart and had an experience yesterday where I thought I would be lucky if I walked out of there alive.
No doubt gang related. But really, beat up a 5 year old???
Tough kid there, could beat up a 5 year old…
Good God…

Hondo

LBJ? No lower than third worst CINC.

Flagwaver

When it comes to worst President’s in History, the bottom of the barrel does include LBJ. However, just above the lowest algae scum is Woodrow Wilson.

I don’t remember who the lowest of the low is. I must be racist for not remembering, or is it that I’m racist if I do remember… I’m kinda confused by that whole thing.

2/17 Air Cav

Well, if you don’t like Wilson, who was an ardent racist, then you are a racist. Does that help?

Hondo

No argument that LBJ deserves a spot near the bottom, Flag. As I said above, I’d put him 3rd from the bottom.

IMO, Carter owns either next to the bottom or the bottom – it’s pretty close.

I’ll leave it as an exercise to figure out the guy who’s neck and neck with Carter.

UpNorth

Are you referring to the guy who now makes Carter smile when the conversation turns to worst president?

Flagwaver

Look at it this way…

Nixon is now smiling because a scandal-ridden White House no longer immediately brings his name into the conversation.

I wonder if this means 0bama accidentally pardoned Nixon, too?

OAE CPO USN Ret

Hell’s bells. If I’d done something like that as a kid I would have wound up with PTSD… from the ass whippin I would have got from my parents. I’d have been flinching at the sight of any belt, any raised hand, hell a shadow passing over me would have sent me running for cover.

Spare the rod, spoil the child.

Flagwaver

No, no… having to select your own apple switch. If you pick one that’s too big, you know it will hurt far more. If you pick one that’s too small, you get sent back to get a bigger one and get more strikes.

Perry Gaskill

Nothing like the old pick-the-switch thing to remind you of the transgression. And then on top of it, you got grounded until the next ice age.

Workhorse7

The first and last time I bucked up on my dad as a teenager I got a 12 inch piece of garden hose taken to me. It cured what ailed me mighty quick.

Sapper3307

This “little girl” is already famous and hero on the Interweb. Lots of videos of her and her large sister and friends stating fights and stuff. No adults to be seen.

Flagwaver

This surprises you how? I noticed there is no father in the picture and the mother is under the impression that her little baby is an innocent angel. This is typical of most poor inner city areas in the country. The kids are raised in a near state of barbarism on the streets, but the parents are kept completely in the dark because they don’t know anything about their kids and usually don’t want to, either.

Workhorse7

Me thinks if the shoe was on the other foot this would be classified as a hate crime and we would be seeing nationwide destruction….er…I mean peaceful protests.

Smitty

Ive been saying it for a long time, that ptsd is contagious! I bet this girl heard a story from a guy that knew soneone that once was near an air force desk jockey. it’s a good thing that stuff was only going around inside the wire, all the grunts managed to dodge it.

Blaster

Hahaha.. I know a guy that was diagnosed withPTSD after he and I deployed together once. I can only imagine that the PTSD came from watching the Band of Brothers too many times during the deployment because he never left the LSA until we flew out to Kuwait for redeployment.

Green Thumb

Met a dude one time that 100% PTSD because his unit deployed without him.

FatCircles0311

I bet that kid 5 year old some real PTSD now.

Common Sense

I think Cesar’s dog philosophy of exercise, consistent discipline, THEN affection applies well to children too. Exercise to wear them out, keep them out of trouble and make them receptive to discipline. discipline to teach them boundaries and good behavior, then lots of love. Always give them a job to do, everyone/dog likes to feel useful.

Unfortunately, it’s not just inner city parents that don’t know that. Ask any upper middle class suburban teacher what happens in most cases when parents are called to school. Their little angel couldn’t possibly do anything wrong, it must be the teacher’s fault.

A Proud Infidel®™

My bet is that her Momma didn’t care about anything other than making sure she has plenty of “Forties” and cigarettes while bitching that she doesn’t get enough handed to her on her welfare card. I’m sure that was some Gang ritual or another, and the kid will one day be a lifer in prison after some “Let ’em loose Bruce” type of Judge gives her a slap on the wrist for future crimes. It seems that NOTHING is anybody’s fault these days, and one can get PTSD from smelling someone else’s fart!

CLAW131

This happened in Indianapolis? The capital city of my Home of Record? Actions such as this are totally a deal breaker. I will never set foot within the city limits again.
I had heard that things were going to hell in a hand basket there ever since the state capital was moved from Corydon to Naptown in 1825.

Oh well, even if my little home town basketball team should actually ever go all the way to the State Finals and have to play the game at Hinkle Field House, I think I’ll just stay here on the farm at East Hog Flats and listen to the game on my little Philco.

Doc Savage

Has she tried taking meth for that “PTSD”?

JimW

And we should remind this little Thug to not take any drugs without her moms permission. (Never let your kid dig in your purse without permission)

FatCircles0311

Can I…

Can I call her a thug?

If you hit a 5 year old with brass knuckles I think that constitutes being a thug. I need confirmation though. I may have misinterpreted the grievous institutional racism that caused such a justified sane action of resistance though.
