King Abdullah goes to war

| February 5, 2015

Barack Obama, Glenn Hutchins, Cyrus Walker

Breitbart reports that King Abdullah of Jordan has reacted differently to the gruesome death of one his pilots than our own president reacted to the beheading of American James Foley;

Shafaqna news and Iraqinews.com claimed to have confirmed with their sources that King Abdullah is personally involved in conducting the air strikes. What remains unclear is whether Abdullah is personally suiting up and flying a plane, or instead commanding units involved in the mission.

“The Jordanian King Abdullah II will participate personally on Thursday in conducting air strikes against the shelters of the terrorist ISIL organization to revenge the execution of the Jordanian pilot [Kasasbeh] by the ISIL,” said the IraqiNews report.

I don’t expect our president to fly Cobras or an A-10, but it would be nice if he acted like there’s a war.

A monarch’s leading his army in actual battle has not been seen since I don’t know when. It must be several hundreds of years. Although I appreciate the very coolness of this fellow leading a squadron in a combat flight, it really isn’t smart. If, for any number of reasons, he were to put down or eject over ISIS-controlled ground, he would be too great a prize, dead or alive. In any event, I wish the Jordanians good hunting.

Flagwaver

I would feel a great swell of pity for any ISIS fighters who tried to capture him.

My undergrad major was English history so I only know about the English monarchs. Racking my brain here but certainly Henry V commanded troops in the field as king (Battle of Agincourt among others: “We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.”)

I think Henry VI did as well as Edward IV. Richard III was killed at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485 so he would count as a fighting monarch. I believe Henry Tudor (AKA Henry VII) fought at Bosworth Field as well but he wasn’t king at the time so I’m not sure that counts. I don’t recall that any of the other Tudor monarchs (Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I, Elizabeth I) ever commanded soldiers in the field (that movie with Cate Blanchett as QE1 wearing armor notwithstanding.)

I don’t think any of the Stuart kings (James I, Charles I, Charles II, James II) ever led troops in battle although I guess Charles I might have during the Civil War. Oliver Crommwell was a general but of course never claimed to be “king.”

William III (William of Orange) was a soldier but I don’t think he was king when he was leading troops.

As far as I know none of the Hanover monarchs (the Georges, William IV and Victoria) ever led troops nor did any of the current House of Windsor/Saxe Coburg.

So that leaves, to my knowledge, Richard III as the last English monarch I can confidently say led troops in battle.

Corrections welcomed, though, it’s been a few decades since college!

Commissioner Wretched

Richard III was the last English king to command his troops in battle, if I recall correctly. Prior to his reign it was a standard thing; afterward, not so much.

Ex-PH2

Actually, the last British monarch to lead troops into battle was George II at the Battle of Dettingen (against the French) in 1743.

jp

Once upon a time, Saudi monarchs were a bit more active in their operational planning: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibn_Saud

I don’t know if Hussein bin Ali, Abdullah’s great-great grandfather, ever led forces in combat. Not sure about his father Hussein, either.

The bigger the cheese the bigger the rats.
Good hunting sir.

Steadfast&Loyal

Dude.

I just got a chubby.

I think I found some new respect for Jordan.

A Proud Infidel®™

DITTO, King Abdullah knows his enemy and how to deal with them. AS TO the ISIL/ISIS vermin, the only sensible way to deal with them is to KILL THEM ALL and let Satan eat their souls.

Steadfast&Loyal

At this point all I want to know is how we elect him President.

Commissioner Wretched

Should be pretty easy – we already have a Muslim foreigner in the office.

Richard

Bad news. The constitution says that a US President has to be a natural born citizen. Abdullah was born in Amman Jordan.

I say Honorable Ally and Friend.

Grimmy

Imo, – and all who’ve made excuses for them, all who’ve spoken up in their favor, all who’ve argued against full spectrum elimination of them and all who’ve ever mentioned wanting to join them but just never got around it doing so in time – needs to be inserted between ALL and and.

Casey

Remember what his father did to the PLO when they tried to take over Jordan? Black September they called it.

Maybe ISIS should have consulted a history book.

Blaster

It’s weird to see a leader of a country that actually has balls.

Hondo

From what I’ve seen, I think I would be proud to call that man a brother-in-arms.

Best wishes and good hunting, Sir.

Stacy0311

unconfirmed reports say that napalm was used in some of the strikes.
poetic justice if true.

A Proud Infidel®™

Just the thought of ISIS/ISIL pukes being turned into “Crispy Critters” via napalm or “Willie Pete” makes my day!!!

Congress needs to expedite a large shipment of FAE Ord.
Yesterday.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Hey, once Obama can identify what ideology the ISIS group follows he will be able to identify a proper course of action. Until then any action is inappropriate as we have no actual idea who they are and why they act as they. Our leader is using appropriate diplomatic caution to avoid mis-identifying the actual culprits behind these attacks. They could be ex-US military veterans or some odd christian sect after all….

You know, I just got word of the video that had been — should it in fact this video be authentic, it’s just one more indication of the viciousness and barbarity of this organization. And it I think will redouble the vigilance and determination on the part of global coalition to make sure that they are degraded and ultimately defeated. It also indicates the degree to which whatever ideology they are operating off of, it’s bankrupt. We’re here to talk about how to make people healthier and make their lives better. And this organization appears only interested in death and destruction.

Don’t you worry once he sorts it out his wife promises to start a hashtag campaign immediately…#stopburningpilotsyouguys!

I hope I don’t need this but here it is anyway: /sarc

David

Just freakin’ nauseating. Sadly true. +1

rb325th

That is what a King does, go to war on behalf of and with his people.
Our Emperor pontificates, and does not directly adress our enemies for what they are, and uses a series of half measures to indirectly appear as if he is taking action.

A Proud Infidel®™

Methinks our wannabe Emperor says what his teleprompter tells him to and then rushes off to an important round of golf, fundraiser, or vacation at US Taxpayers’ expense!

GDContractor

And salutes with a fucking starbucks cup or some bullshit.

A Proud Infidel®™

NO SHIT, just before he orders those saluting him to hold his umbrella for him!

Commissioner Wretched

And this “President” is not fooling anyone with his half-assed approach to the ISIS issue – or to anything else, for that matter.

The rest of the world already sees him for what he is.

Ex-PH2

No, no. Napoleon Bonaparte was a self-declared emperor, but he was a charismatic leader for the nasty Frogs.

When he left Elba and began gathering his forces around him, Marhsall Soult proposed sending a large force to the south to stop him. Massena’s regiments were behind him, and it was assumed that Bonaparte would be trapped.

However, on the road beyond Gap, Napoleon met a battalion of Infantry of the Line. With his unfailing flair for the dramatic he dismounted, walking toward them alone and sais ‘Men of the Fifth! I am your Emperor! Know me! If there is one of you who would kill his Emperor, here I am!”

It is reported that an order to fire was ignored. Instead, the soldiers tore the white cockades off their hats and surrounded him.

If you can actually imagine bodaprez getting that reaction, then you can call him ’emperor’. But he is truly a hollow man, an empty shell, with less emotional involvement in the real world than a walnut hull.

Commissioner Wretched

I already had a lot of respect for King Abdullah II. Now, it has gone through the roof into the stratosphere.

Safe flying, Your Majesty, and send as many of those ISIS bastards to the hell they deserve as you can. Come back safely, sir, so you and your people can enjoy a world free of that particular scourge.

Commissioner Wretched

I’d be somewhat more satisfied if our “President” even knew what a Cobra or an A-10 actually is.

For the rest of this disaster’s term in office I will put his title in quotation marks. This man is no more a president than Charlie McCarthy is.

GDContractor

But, but, but he wears a leather flight jacket sometimes.

A Proud Infidel®™

What for? To make himself look manly while he’s eating ice cream?

Ex-PH2

Why do you think I refer to him as bodaprez?

MustangCryppie

Yup. Needs a wheelbarrow to carry his balls.

I’ve always had a lot of respect for him and his late father. Class acts.

mistythemedic

King Abdullah II can be my commander in chief any old day. This is the most awesome thing I’ve read on the internet in ages.

sbk99

Roger that.

QM1

The original article I read had me at the “King Abdullah then quoted Clint Eastwood from the movie Unforgiven..”

A real warrior. A real leader. Something the United States has been missing for a while.

Total badass.

2/17 Air Cav

A strike and a salute:

“The [Jordanian] fighters flew over Amman and the southern governorate of Karak, the hometown of pilot Muath Kasasbeh, the Jordan TV said in breaking news, following the missions.” Jordantimes.com

Ex-PH2

I think it’s grossly inappropriate to show bodaprez playing golf in a green, summery setting.

I happen to know that there is snow in Foggy Bottom as I write this. It’s much more likely, and more appropriate, to show him building fierce-looking snowman in the Rose Garden, with a sign for the snowman that says “#we’rewithjordan”. (snarc)

As it is, one man is a leader and shows it, and the other can only hold his ‘manhood’ cheap, if he can even find it.

OldSoldier54

” … the other can only hold his ‘manhood’ cheap, if he can even find it.”

Bingo.

SFC D

It’s in Michelle’s purse, right next to the twinkies.

Ex-PH2

Durnburnit, would you guys post a spew alert?!?

Good thing I only had the cup halfway up.

Hondo

I don’t think I’ve ever heard cojones referred to as “twinkies” before . . . .

QM1

Personally, I would have utilized the “mom jeans on bike” over the golf photo, juxtaposed with a true leader in flight gear. I feel it more accurately portrays the comparison.

King Abdullah will not stand by and allow his people to be terrorized by such evil scum without retribution. How did he put it? “The only problem we’re going to have is running out of fuel and bullets.”

#BadAss

A Proud Infidel®™

Yeah, the Mom-jeans-on-bicycle is a good one (he’s even wearing a helmet0, and the one of him eating a soft-serve ice cream cone like a high school cheerleader is, too!

Commissioner Wretched

Interesting factoid about King Abdullah II – he appeared as an extra in an episode of “Star Trek: Voyager” while still the Crown Prince. Seems His Majesty is a Trekkie of the first order – as well as having the cojones to do what our “President” couldn’t grow the spine to do if he lived to be 800 years old.

valerie

I doubt the King will actually be flying a mission. That makes no sense to me, because I assume his training is not up-to-date. I fully expect him to be at the command post and attentive. That is different from our current President, to my complete dismay.

Commissioner Wretched

You are most likely correct, Valerie. His Majesty is far, far too valuable to Jordan to allow him to actually fly in combat.

However, the mere fact that he is willing and ready to go – and is capable of doing so – makes him a true leader, unlike our “President” who couldn’t lead his way out of a wet paper bag if one end was wide open and had signs pointing the way.

Old Trooper

Check my reply below. His Majesty is a total badass. They have the pics of him in the cockpit, helmet on, and looking pissed and that pic was after the strike.

Some folks are saying this is Social Media HYPE. He’s not personally going to bomb ISIS.

Jordan Rott

That man is a badass.

cannoncocker

Leading from the front: you’re doing it right.

11B-Mailclerk

Different culture there.

I could easily see circumstances where a King in that region would well serve his Kingdom by taking the risk of pilot on a ground attack mission.

Think of the stature of Jordan if this happens. think now with the eyes and minds of people who are largely tribal in outlook, where “country” is far more notional than here.

“That man, not kin to the dead victim, personally led an attack to wreak flaming vengeance, risking his privileged self for honor and vengeance.”

That, I believe, is Arabic for “Don’t tread on me!”

yeah, maybe they can’t actually publish the cockpit Selfe, but wow.

There is a jump seat on a B-1 or B-2, right? That sucker could haul a pit-shot of Napalm. Just sayin…. But no. Not our guy. Too valuable.

Old Trooper

I did see the cockpit selfie on another site.

This site has it.

Okay off, off topic about Bernath.

He posted s comment from Facebook above to one of his made up sockpuppets,

“I getting my gear ready for another cross country flight in da airplane. I also have just enrolled in the course for Light Sport airplane mechanic/inspector. I just bought a bike from Walmart so I can take the bike path from da house to Page airfield…take about ten minutes of paddling. Also just joined the American Experimental Aircraft club.
Not bad for 65 years old eh? And you? In front of your computers, in your Mom’s basement jacking off to child pornography.

A bike from WalMart to ride to the airfield? That’s pretty good for a guy who has a disabled parking plate and uses two canes to get around. Not bad at all. Keep contradicting yourself Danny. Keep forgetting which lies you told where and when. That’s why the truth is always best…it’s the easiest to remember. I wonder of someone contacted Oregon DMV and asked them to review his disabled parking plate in light of his new found ability to ride a bike ten minutes, if they would be interested? What a tick turd.

Friend S. Wilkins

Actually, I’m the one he just falsely accused of possessing child pornography. Don’t get me wrong, I’m flippin’ pissed off about it, but I’m not about to give the prick any satisfaction. That’s why my responses to any further attacks by this person will be meek and mild.

A Proud Infidel®™

Pedophilia and homosexuality are the first things Daniel A. Bernath accuses people of, I’m certain he’s doing what Psychologists and Psychiatrists refer to as “Projection”.

Ex-PH2

Oeewww, my gawwwd.

There is no such thing as the American Experimental Aircraft club. I know what I’m talking about. He doesn’t, so he’s lying again.

And big deal. Let’s see him build an actual full-sized airplane and fly it. Hey! I know! I can hit the fly-in this coming summer. He won’t be there. I guarantee it.

Oh, FSW, he accuses people of all sorts of reprehsnsible things, but you know it’s hogwash and he’s nothing but a bully and an atention whore. And he’s a compulsive, pathological liar. Almost forgot that part.

Did you see what he did with Audie Murphy’s MOH portrait?

Friend S. Wilkins

No, I didn’t. I’ll have to check it out tomorrow. Out of time for today. God, I can’t wait to see what Danny Boy says about me in the next 20 hours or so. LOL!!

ChipNASA

Just to repeat in case you missed it:

At last… The return of a warrior King. It has been a long time coming.

Old Trooper

While I agree with a lot of what Charles says, he missed a key point; when the palestinians tried to take over Jordan, a couple decades ago, they were crushed and forcefully so. The late King had no problem destroying that insurrection and the current King would do the same before his morning breakfast without so much as a wink and a nod. The key to Jordan’s Monarchy is that they deal with internal problems quickly and violently. Now they have an external issue and it appears that they are dealing with it the same way. Turkey is moving further and further away from secularism and towards islamic control. You have seen it since 2003 and Erdogan lets slip his islamic ideology more and more in speeches and actions. If there is one wild card in the bunch, it’s Turkey.

Commissioner Wretched

In the Facebook comments section, one Commissar asks, “So exactly what would you expect our President to do?”

For one thing, Mr. Taylor, I expect our “President” to be a leader. I expect him to set forth policies that would lead to the destruction of ISIS, because ISIS is bent on destroying us.

I expect our “President” to admit the truth about what we are fighting – ISLAMic extremists and terrorists. Why won’t the man say the freaking word? Why is it so necessary to be Politically Correct and not call a spade a spade?

I expect our “President” to realize that there are people out there who want to see our way of life destroyed and DO SOMETHING about it, rather than employ mealy-mouthed Pabulum designed to make everybody feel better.

In short, Mr. Taylor, I expect our “President” to act like a president.

Commissioner Wretched

And, Mr. Taylor, if our “President” needs an example to follow, he can look to His Majesty, King Hussein II of Jordan.

THAT man is a leader.

Commissioner Wretched

I’m sorry, it’s King Abdullah II of Jordan.

I shouldn’t type when I’m upset.
