Victim’s sister shoots down anti-gun group
In October 2013, Joshua Cavett shot and killed his 27-year-old wife, Jesse Doyle Cavett, in front of his children when he couldn’t get the visitation rights he wanted in their divorce. Cavett was a previously convicted felon and was in illegal possession of a gun when he killed his ex. He was convicted late last year.
So, this group of gun grabbers, Everytown for Gun Safety, hoping to make some hay from the tragedy, contacted the victim’s sister, Jennie Cochran, for her cooperation in that endeavor. I guess the were surprised by her reaction;
“I’m very pro-gun, as is Jessie, so I would really hope that you guys don’t use her story for anything,” Cochran responded. “Because the only thing that would have saved her was a gun.”
On “Fox and Friends” this morning, Cochran explained that there’s no way the police would have been able to respond in time to prevent her sister’s murder.
“[Cavett] is a felon. He’s gonna have a gun, and the only thing that would have leveled it out is if she had one too,” she said.
“It was already illegal for him to have a gun. He was a felon … they’re gonna get them. There’s a black market out there and they’re always gonna have them.”
So, I guess that’s a “no”.

I bet they hate that they can’t find too many victims, or their families, that believe their bullshit. Just like that Columbine survivor, who is now a Colorado State legislator and wants to pass a law to arm teachers.
What is so ironic about this is that the group who solicited her support, Everytown Needs More Victims or whatever it’s called, prompted more favorable focus on being armed than disarming.
They wanted to exploit her feelings. Yes, *exploit,* because that’s what they do, the rat-bastards. Too bad for them that she’s a smart woman whose feelings guide her towards a rational answer, rather than the manipulated hysteria they desire.
In my local area, the anti-gun groups have a specific tactic, they keep demanding in the social media that the police track down and find the source of the guns the criminals used in charge those people with aiding and abetting.
Which of course, the police should be doing. However there are also demanding that legal gunowners take extra steps to secure their weapons when they’re not having them on their person. Meaning trigger locks and gun safes or face felony charges so that they would never have the right to a gun again.
One local advocate even got a negligent discharge bill proposed that would raised to a felony level the negligent discharge of a firearm inside the city limits. It never got out of committee of course so far.
And to be honest, it’s hard to argue against those kind of arguments. It’s much easier to argue against the let’s ban them so the bad guys can’t have them stupidity.
Bahahahahaha ! , ! ! !
Crap I just craped myself. Lol….
The criminal is responsible for his crimes, no one else. The victim does not bear any responsibility. It is not his job to reform the criminal heart, nor to remain invisible, nor to divest himself of anything tempting.
The person who has a gun stolen is a victim of theft. Not his job to prevent evil in the hearts of others.
Basically, I do not care if the woman is buck naked and holding wads of hundred dollar bills. Keep your hands to yourself. I do not care what cool stuff Mr X has at home. Not yours, so hands off. I do not care if the door is wide open. Stay out.
So give me no more of this horse pucky about blaming gun owners for the ravages of repeat offenders and parolees. If we held people responsible for their own evil, we could probably more effectively dissuade it.
Idiots.
You wouldn’t be considering running for office, would you? Because you would definitely have my vote. I like the way you think!
I will take that as high praise.
Indeed, you would have my vote also, sir.
Hear, hear!
I couldn’t agree more!!!
Anti-gun types are as obsessed with taking away peoples’ rights as Bernath is with claiming that he was an honorary CPO.
This woman is a strong advocate for responsible gun owners, those who require protection and those who can not comprehend basic self protection 101.
She said, “only a gun would have saved her.”
Stuff that is your pipe and smoke it!
She’s using facts and logic on moonbats, and they’re as allergic to that as hippies are to soap, water, and honest work!
I write a Gun Blog on a different web site and deal mostly with the politics of guns and the morons that try to take our Second Amendment rights from us.
What Mail Clerk writes is right, it is nobody elses fault when a criminal uses a gun or steals a gun for that matter.
The only thing about it is that we ARE winning the war for the truth of guns and the fact that guns are but a tool neither good nor bad only a tool to be used in the same way that a baseball bat can be used in a good way or to beat someone to death with…
It is never the victims fault, periodIf you can, please carry. St Louis is overrun with gang bangers attacking white people just because they can and know that they can get away with it.
A talk show host from Milwaukee told on the air today that his sister was carjacked by a 13 year old kid. She is lucky to be alive and you know that kid will end up either dead or in prison for a very long time after working his way through the juvenile system…
If she would have had a gun with her, she could have shot him on the spot and not faced charges because he had a gun…
Protect yourself…
You are responsible for yourself, nobody else is able to be there when you need them.
