Major Erik J. Burris; Army sex assault prosecutor sentenced

| January 27, 2015

According to the Associated Press, Major Erik J. Burris, who is formerly an Army prosecutor specializing in sexual assaults, was found guilty of rape among other charges and sentenced to twenty years;

Maj. Erik J. Burris was found guilty on two charges of rape, a charge of forcible sodomy, four charges of assault and a charge of disobeying an order, the Army said in a five-sentence statement. Burris was sentenced to 20 years in prison, dismissed from the service, and ordered to forfeit all pay, the statement said.

Burris, 39, had pleaded not guilty to the charges. He could not be reached for comment, and the name of the lawyer representing him was not provided.

The statement emailed to news media outlets Monday was the first issued by the Army about the case. It provided no details about the crimes for which Burris was convicted or whether they included other military personnel.

So what is it with these guys? We had an Air Force prosecutor arrested last year. Another Army officer has been removed from his position because of groping allegations. It’s as if they don’t understand the policy or their jobs.

The Army needs to come forward and produce information on what this guy did.

They (Army) are starting to act like the VA.

I remember when I was made a CDAAC NCO – Community Drug And Alcohol – I told people who asked that it was because I had more experience.

Must be the same with these clowns.

If only he had seen a few more SHARP PowerPoints, this officer’s career would have been saved.

And worn his reflective belt during all duty hours.

2/17 Air Cav

Writes the AP reporter, “He could not be reached for comment….” No shit. He was busy being introduced to his new life:

“Bend over and, putting your right hand on your right buttock and your left hand on your left buttock, pull your buttocks in opposite directions for an anal cavity search. Do it NOW!”

Green Thumb

Alas, it probably will not happen due to military segregation.

My personally, though, I believe his ass should be tossed in general population.

Hondo

He was convicted at court-martial. He’ll quite likely end up doing his time at USDB/Ft Leavenworth vice a Federal pen.

Green Thumb

How unfortunate.

Eric

Where he probably “sent” a few others for the same acts he did himself.

That ought to be a hoot. If they put those kinds of events up on pay per view, we’d have the national debt settled in no time.

Sexual predators go where their victims of choice can be found. People who have already been sexually preyed on are prime targets for further attacks of the same type, and as sick as it is, there are predators who seek out that demographic.

We need to go back to the old laws that murder and rape are automatic capital offenses. We might not deter them, but we could limit the damage these bastards do.

Green Thumb

Well said.

Only problem is that, for now, the Supreme Court has claimed it is unconstitutional (under the eighth amendment) to have death as the automatic, or even the usual, penalty for any crime; or to ever have the death penalty for a crime that doesn’t result in a death (i.e., even someone who rapes and tortures a dozen children can’t be executed unless he kills someone too).

I don’t agree with their reading of the Constitution at all…but that’s what they’ve laid down.

Pinto Nag

I understand your point, I was only commenting that the law used to be far more harsh, and should return to that level of punishment.

My grandfather was a wise old man, and a JP in a small rural county. He was known for some of the things he said, one of which was this: there would come a day when decent people would be locked up, while criminals roamed freely. Sound familiar? In this day and age, the criminals have more rights than the law abiding citizens do, and if you take a minute to think about all the different kinds of ‘locks’ you use to keep yourself and your things safe, I’d say we definitely have a problem with decent people being ‘locked up.’ It’s time for the criminals to become afraid of committing crime again.

Grimmy

I’m of the opinion that all prisons should be solitary confinement for the duration of the sentence for all prisoners.

No more prisons as finishing schools for the criminal class. No more prisons as recruiting grounds for the violent gangs.

Eden

Supreme Court be hanged! (Figuratively, of course.) I agree with Pinto Nag.

Was listening to “Whiskey For My Men and Beer For My Horses” on the way in to work this morning. Funny how an apropos solution to a lot of problems is “unconstitutional”. I’ll give up my support for the death penalty when someone shows ma a 100% sure way to make sure the perp can never, ever commit another crime. It ain’t about punishment, it’s about prevention and society protecting itself.

NHSparky

Don’t forget about SFC (hopefully soon to be Private with DD) McQueen. Guy was a sexual abuse educator who became a pimp.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Steadfast&Loyal

I don’t get it.

Meanwhile people are submitting essays for the I Love Abdullah contest.

Grimmy

I think that essay contests might turn out to be the Army’s next version of “here’s a new hat, feel better about yourself now.”

Reading the charges and sentence…he got far worse than Bowe Bergdahl ever will! Maybe if Bowe had done a forcible Blue Falcon on someone inside the wire, he’d be doing 20 now without pay.

Is it just me, or are those who point the finger at others frequently the guiltiest?

Does this remind you of anyone? You needn’t answer that, not even post a response. Just smile and nod.

The hottest spots in Hell are reserved for those who condemn others for doing what they themselves do.

That’s why I am so cautious about the morals police. You wanna’ know what someone’s darkest secrets are? Look at what they rant/rail against in public. That is what they secretly are in the greatest majority of cases.

We only hate in others what we despise in ourselves.

PeteOldABH

That’s absolutely correct. We hate it that people are the moral police because we secretly want to be immoral. We hate police because we want to break the law, we don’t like people who are the moral judges because we secretly want to be immoral, whatever immorality is. So it serves correctly that we celebrate when a so called “prosecutor of the doers of inequity” are found guilty of the same crime. Why? The real answer is. “We want to hold those accountable who speak the truth, but don’t walk the truth.” . Damn Im upset tonight.

Rubik's Pube

Someone didn’t stay up to date on their annual online SHARP awareness training

THIS is what happens when you just click through the PowerPoint without actually reading the slides…..

PeteOldABH

what powerpoint? or did I miss something here.

Climb to Glory

This shit drives me nuts. These dumb GOs can’t keep their collective dicks in there pants, while screwing over the enlisted at every opportunity.

Reminds me of when the higher ups would fly in to our COP in the middle of bum fuck nowhere from Bagram. They’d bitch about all the stupid shit that didn’t matter. They’d bitch that my guys needed a haircut and their uniforms were all fucked up. Mainly us looking raggedy ass.

Meanwhile, they’re back at Bagram enjoying hot chow, showers, air conditioning, clean laundry and banging their subordinates. I’ll never forget my Platoon Sergeants reaction when they bitched. PL was pretty pissed too. Classic.

valerie

He was charged with raping his estranged wife and assaulting his kids. I hope there was solid evidence.

crewchief guy

whelp i hope every enlisted person is ready for 20 more hours of death by powerpoint due to some officer screwing up royally.
