McAuliffe’s gun control fails in VA Senate committee
The new governor of Virginia was handed his first defeat yesterday when the State Senate Courts of Justice panel defeated his proposals for limiting gun sales to one per month for legal gun owners and for tightening private sales rules for background checks according to the Associated Press;
Not all gun control measures failed. The committee voted in favor of a bill that would make it illegal for those convicted of certain violent crimes from transporting or possessing. The measure had broad support from many of the state’s law enforcement groups.
The panel also voted to allow gun owners to obtain a lifetime concealed carry permit.
Sounds like wins all around, well, except for McAuliffe, the carpetbagger from New York.
The Daily Press says that the carpetbagger will probably veto the parts of the bill that made it out of the committee. But then he’s a carpetbagger, that’s why he’s out of touch with Virginia.

Yes, not all Yankees are idiots like McAwful there.
Some of us can actually thingk for ourselves.
I’m looking forward to the lifetime CCP. We’ll see how the governor fairs on the veto attempt.
Good on the VA legislature. At least they get it.
I assume most people convicted of violent crimes are already prohibited. I guess I’ll have to assume that this is just hack politicians passing legislation to feel good. So now we possibly have multiple laws prohibiting the same thing
Don’t think there are enough votes to overturn a veto, unfortunately. Fingers crossed, would love to see lifetime concealed carry permit.
I still find it unfortunate that Virginia, the state which was the backbone of the Continental Army, and who gave us Patrick Henry and George Washington, would still enact ANY laws which would restrict the bearing of arms by any citizen.
The 2nd amendment is quite plain in it’s language: “……. the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”.
How any government at any level can interpret that phrase to permit the regulation of any arms or the restrictions upon possession of any arms by any citizen is beyond me.
Gun laws, as I see them in light of that phrase, are unconstitutional and should be repealed down to the last letter, comma ad period. They are anathema to our freedoms and liberties and have no place in our society.
Punish the individual for his or her actions. Return our laws to those which reflect personal responsibility, and eliminate all those which are prophylactic in nature, which punish an entire class for the actions of a single person.
