Missouri Democrats coming for your guns

| November 15, 2014

Fox News reports that Missouri Democrats have introduced a bill to their legislature which would effectively ban modern sporting rifles, of course, their term is “assault weapons”, my term is “scary looking guns. From their bill;

(1) “Assault weapon”, any:

(a) Semi-automatic rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and has one or more of the following:

a. A pistol grip or thumbhole stock;

b. Any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the nontrigger hand;

c. A folding or telescoping stock; or

d. A shroud attached to the barrel, or that partially or completely encircles the barrel, allowing the bearer to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned, but excluding a slide that encloses the barrel;

(b) Semi-automatic pistol, or any semi-automatic, centerfire or rimfire rifle with a fixed magazine, that has the capacity to accept more than ten rounds of ammunition;

(c) Semi-automatic pistol that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and has one or more of the following:

a. Any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the nontrigger hand;

b. A folding, telescoping or thumbhole stock;

c. A shroud attached to the barrel, or that partially or completely encircles the barrel, allowing the bearer to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned, but excluding a slide that encloses the barrel; or

d. The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at any location outside of the pistol grip.

Yeah, you’ll have ninety days from the time the bill is approved to turn in or destroy your weapon, or move it outside the state – otherwise you’ll become a felon. Your magazines can’t accept more than 10 rounds, your shotgun more than 5. In other words, Missouri Democrats want to suck the fun out of sport shooting. “Will not be infringed” is just a quaint phrase.

I’ve never set foot in Missouri, but I have the impression that it’s a pretty rural state with a LOT of sportsmen. I imagine this will not get passed without a BIG fight.

NHSparky

Problem is, it’s a state much like CA. St. Louis and KC fucking everything up for the rest of the state.

It won’t pass, but the fact it’s even being brought up shows the Democrats didn’t learn a fucking thing from last week.

MustangCryppie

I get it now. Actually, sounds like my present state of Maryland. The majority of it is rural, but Baltimore and the Montgomery County Mafia fucks everything up for the rest of us.

farmgirl with a mosin nagant

Dealing with similar problems in my state, where they voted in a voters’ initiative bill regarding firearms background checks which even state-wide law enforcement were going ‘are you crazy?’ The best I can say is that it’s likely both here and in Missouri that the legal challenges will hold up enforcement of the law indefinitely, and hopefully it can get overturned.

The Other Whitey

Cool, that just means they’ll lose even more in two years.

Richard

With very few exceptions (mostly Ruger 10/22), paragraph (b) includes almost every semiautomatic rimfire rifle – think Marlin etc with the magazine tube under the barrel. I have never seen one that held 10 or fewer rounds.

Check this phrase, “d. A shroud attached to the barrel, or that partially or completely encircles the barrel, allowing the bearer to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned, but excluding a slide that encloses the barrel;” As I interpret this paragraph, it outlaws every semiautomatic long gun with a foreend stock – think Remington 1100 shotgun – because it partially encircles the barrel.

The good news about this bill — it is so heinous that it probably won’t get very far.

Sergeant Guy

Pretty sure the MO legislature is controlled by Republicans. Anyone elected to a legislature can introduce a bill about anything.

Hell, didn’t a Texas state senator submit a bill honoring a serial killer just to see if it would pass?

Sparks

The Show Me State. “Yea, show me your hands MF cause us criminals is da only ones with dees here guns bro.” Fuck Missouri.

Open Channel D

Easy there Sparks, it’s some ultra lib politicians, not the People of Missouri who are plotting this. I am from Missouri (although I haven’t lived there in 39 years, all my family does) and I can tell you except for the pockets of libs in St. Louis, Columbia, and to a lesser extent, Kansas City, Missouri is red. This has no chance of passing in a state whose unofficial motto is “Guns Liquor and Ammo.”

nbcguy54

Ditto Open Channel D. Born & raised in Springfield but haven’t lived in MO since going AD in 84. No way this will pass but it is a bit embarrassing to read it. BTW- go Tigers, beat the Aggies tonight!

OC

OCD,“Guns Liquor and Ammo.” ain’t a motto – it’s a dang good name for a store !!

I must say that even here in bleeding heart liberal MN the dems haven’t been able to get a POS like this out of committee. So I’m guessing some folks from the Show Me state might have pink tinged faces.

Keep up the good fight.

Well, I guess that cuts out hunting in Missouri for me.

Which city full of libidiots did the bill presenters originate in? Were they maybe transplants from SanFran? They’re like cockroaches, aren’t they? They creep in while you’re sleeping and you think you’re safe.

OWB

Don’t worry. They don’t want anything extreme – just sensible legislation.

Right.

They won’t be happy until only criminals have guns, no matter that most gun owners have no ill intent at all. How exactly do they propose to protect themselves when the rest of us are unable to protect ourselves, much less them?

Oh, they live in those wonderful idealistic bubbles which no harm can penetrate, them being such special people, smarter than all of us, apparently capable of either walking on water or staying submerged in it until all danger has passed. Or something equally magical.

Enigma4you

Lets have some fun with this,

I read it, I cant see any language that would bar the ownership of a machine gun. It says semi auto..

A chain gun would be legal, after all there are no float tubes and no fore grip.

any of the belt fed water cooled would be legal.

Bunch of fucking morons

Ex-PH2

You’re right.

A .50 cal doesn’t use a magazine. It’d be a bit much for deer hunting, but the shock might kill the deer.

19Delta

You just have to wait the 8-10 months for BATFE to give you your tax stamp for a Class III weapon.

Ex-PH2

I can’t see anything that wording that bars ownership of a six-shooter (classic revolver), either, or for that matter, a Buntline Special like Bat Masterson carried.

Rory Ellinger represented district 86 in St Louis County, but has died in April of this year. Jill Schupp represents district 88, Creve Coeur, St Louis County. Margo McNeil represents districts 78 and incorporated district 69 in Florissant and Hazelwood areas, St Louis County. Rochelle Walton Gray represents district 75 from St Louis County.

I work in Tulsa through he week, but the family lives in central MO. I’m fairly certain that this attempt to emulate those wonderful examples of tolerance and common sense, known as California, New York, etc will fail. Again, this is a classic example of a small segment of high crime areas dictating via representatives to the entirety of the state.

Open Channel D

Did a little checking on the Missouri House website. That Bill was proposed 9 months ago in the last House Session, didn’t go anywhere, has no hearing scheduled and is not on the calendar.

12H

I saw that also – it’s languished in the General Laws committee since Feb 2013. I guess this attempt at an amendment to the bill (HB 545) is their way of reviving it. BUT, since it’s there’s no hearings scheduled for it in the past year, I doubt it’ll go far. People are trying to make a rep for themselves in the St Louis County area.

Richard Jacobs

Whoa, hold on there everybody. Missouri will NOT tolerate bills of this nature to advance past the idiot who introduced it! We are a sporting, fishing, gun-loving state and plan to keep it that way; liberals beware of what you’re trying to initiate!

JoshO

Yeah, it’ll never happen. Outside St Louis, KC and Columbia, the people range more from the central part of the the spectrum on over to the other flavor of crazy. Someone’s trying to impress the national party more than their constituents it looks like. How the fuck is this kind of shit supposed to help any of the real problems?

Open Channel D

That’s not the intent. The intent is to get campaign contributions from the anti-gun PACS and groups like Bloomberg and his ilk. The only help they’re looking for is help staying in office.

H1

How can such obviously racist legislation be even proposed in this day an age?
Hate’n on the black rifles.

H1

I guess FLW would have to go back to bolt action rifles.
They could excess the M4’s to the border patrol…
If only there was a major theater that was drawing down that the border patrol could tap for weapons.

Lawrence Todd

Can we get a ban on scary looking radical liberal/socialist/marxist/communists — Nancy Pelosi would be 1st on list followed by Biden, Franken and Sharpten

Lawrence Todd

And how can i forget our living dead majority leader Harry Reid

11BVet

Reid’s not majority leader anymore thanks to the lack of Democratic voters at the polls. Silver lining in every cloud…

Beretverde

I think they should outlaw rioting and looting of QTs instead of passing laws outlawing the archaic, useless, “assault weapons” ban.

11BVet

They’re trying this same crap here in Nevada. It’s easy to get 250,000 signatures by walking up and down the Las Vegas strip. Too bad 249,950 of those signatures are from tourists that don’t live in the state or the country, and the liberals they need to actually vote on the ballot never show up. All of this when every seat we have is now filled with a Republican…

FatCircles0311

Blatant civil rights violation. Get the injustice department on everyone that voted yes for it. They are actively engaging in criminal activity.
