Devin Rogers; OK kidnapper is not a POW
Robert sends us a link to Oklahoma’s News9 which tells the story of Devin Rogers who took 3 hostages in a Norman, OK law office last week. New9 says he was a veteran;
Rogers is currently being held on complaints of kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm and using a weapon in commission of a felony. Norman Police say Rogers had a California license in his possession at the time of his arrest and they are reasonably certain he is who he says he is.
News 9 checked and learned Rogers is from the Los Angeles area, has no criminal background, and trained at Fort Campbell in Kentucky.
OK, that may be true, but they did a follow up story and talked to his former room mate;
“I can’t imagine how he must’ve felt going through that traumatic experience in Afghanistan, being captured, watching your whole squad die in front of your eyes and him being strangled,” Lopaka Kauakahi said.
Devin Rogers is a marked man, now a criminal, but his friends say he was once a decorated prisoner of war, forever bearing the scars on his neck.
“Those scars were from when he was in Afghanistan. He was a prisoner of war,” Kauakahi said. “He said there were like six other people, seven other people. The only thing about it is he ended up being the only one making it out.”
[…]
Those who know Rogers claim he is a very decorated war veteran and spent 10 years in the army in three tours of duty, and it was his last one where he ended up getting captured and tortured. However, back at home they said he had no enemies and was a courteous, gentle man, not a kidnapping gunman.
Well, now he is a kidnapping gunman. He wasn’t a prisoner of war in Afghanistan. DPMO doesn’t list any POWs from Afghanistan, but we all know the name of the only American serviceman to be held by the enemy in Afghanistan – Bowe Bergdahl. So unless Bowe changed his name to Devin Rogers, Rogers was lying to his former room mate – you know, the first time that ever happened, so good job, there, News 9. Anyone with two working brain cells could have figured that one out. So, at this point, I doubt he even served given the research abilities of New 9.
There is a Devin Rogers in the Army, but it’s not this guy.

The needle on my Bull-shit-o-meter just broke off against the stops.
Spring for the high-end replacement model with the titanium needle and elastic stop-pegs. These days, the BS-meter goes off-scale pretty damn often.
I’ll have to give that a shot. This is the second meter I’ve had to buy this week. The first one had a round dial with no stops. As soon as I turned it on, the needle started spinning so fast that caused the meter to transition to a hover. As I reached for the off switch, that damn thing found second gear and took off straight up. It hasn’t been seen since.
If only I had read the directions first which tell you to tether it something heavy before turning it on.
Funny!
My fist bullshit meter was the standard mod 1 mark 2. It worked great for many years, it pegged and stuck on the round ranger.
I searched long and hard and found one of the newer digital ones made by odd meters inc. They had pioneered the weird-shit o-meter and had no less than 5 naturalized north korean engineers on staff. It was this group of engineers that had devolped the new digital bull-shit-o-meter, they used the lies of the NK dear leader as the base line value then calibrated to register to to a theoretical infinity.
Well this model is expensive but well worth the money, plus it takes updates via the internet.
That latest firmware may have a bug, the analog meter and digital readout both go to the infinite side of the scale everytime I turn it on., I have contacted the customer support rep and they are at a loss, it seems that since Bernath and Wickre have teamed up the amount of available bullshit in the universe is growing exponentially, it exceeded the old base calculation of probable available bullshit (Infinity x 10 to the power 0f 12) -1 by a factor that has yet to be calculated. Stephen hawking is consulting and its rumored that they are looking over the unpublished works of Einstein and Douglas Adams for a solution.
Bernath and Wickre….Stephen Hawking will shortly be submitting a proof that Divide by Zero is possible when those two are in the same room together. Nobel Prize to follow.
Awesomesauce!
Old news. It’s also been proven that 1=2 as well.
Yes, that “proof” is wrong. 1 is not really equal to 2, regardless of how much the Doofus Duo (or Lemon Party Triad if you include a certain other guy) want it to be so.
Well at least now he’s a prisoner; just not a POW. Good luck with your new best friends in jail.
Dipshit
Word.
A criminal who says he was a POW in Afghanistan and uses scars on his neck as proof? WOW it’s Deja’Vu

News9 checked? Okay. I’ll buy that if they buy this: I checked and found that the News9 is run out of the basement of a crack house. Knuckleheads.
“I don’t often kidnap people at gun point, but when I do…it’s because I caught me some PTSD from being a POW in ‘da ‘Stan. Stay retarded my friends”.
So, I emailed this ding dong reporter and admonished her for putting this drivel of him being a POW out for public consumption and this is what she sends back to me:
“News 9 has repeatedly requested military records for Devin Rogers to verify his service record. While it may take five minutes to ask for these records, it certainly does not mean those records will be released within that time frame. Today, days after numerous requests, we received partial records for Devin Rogers. We did not report his military service as fact or truth, only stating what those who knew him claimed…emphasis on “claimed.” Please read the piece I reported carefully, and you will find his roommates and friends make statements about his duty.
In reading through the records News 9 just received I do see Rogers was in fact a decorated veteran. As far as some of the other claims made by his friends, that information cannot be verified and will thus simply be left as claims by friends…not News 9.”
While technically she is correct; they (News 9) didn’t say he was a POW, blah, blah, blah…They should damn well know that allowing such claims to go out, through them, will be taken as a fact. I think hers was a chickenshit, pass the buck response. FFS, you don’t need the man’s 201 file to find out that he wasn’t a POW and the whole story is bullshit. Aren’t reporters supposed to fact check?
Typical media.
I think we had one who the media called “highly decorated” with an NDSM and an Army Service Ribbon – they don’t just hand those things out to everyone, ya know.
Damn right they don’t. Hell my NDSM has a device on it. Top that!
Mine too — not just anybody can get “the bronze star”.
(See what I just did?)
Uh, well, some of us have that NDSM with 2 bronze star device thingies on it. For reals! Even earned them.
Too bad one cannot get a device on the ASR for basic and then OBC.
I couldn’t help myself and responded back to Ding Dong…I mean Joleen Chaney. I hope my response helps her in her future endeavors as an esteemed member of the media. My response:
“Really? This is what you’re going with? While technically, you are correct, you never stated he was a POW or any of the other BS claims as fact. You certainly let the story read like it is all true. You should damn sure know that letting statements like that go out, through your organization, will be construed as fact. While I appreciate that you now have his records, you don’t need the man’s 201 file or DD214 to find out that he was NOT a POW. Let me help you. There’s a hidden resource called google. If you type in the cryptic phrase “American Prisoners of War in Afghanistan” you will receive several bits of information. A savvy investigator could then glean that the tale being told amounts to the smelly stuff found in brown piles in a cow pasture. In doing so, said savvy investigator, could refrain from reporting misleading information and keep themselves from looking foolish.”
Somebody, one time, called me a smart ass.
Well, at least you didn’t use the phrase “incompetent ditz” in your reply. Who knows, she might have thought you were telling her she needed Depends. (smile)
“or “Ignorant twunt”
Or lummox. I like lummox.
‘twunt’ + ‘lummox’ = ‘twummox’.
Or ‘lunt’. Either one.
Mike
I usually go with “Space Cadet”.
Space, or so it seems, is not the final frontier….
What if his former roommates had said he had been abducted by aliens? Would the reporter has passed along that info too?
Are you willing to go on the record with that?
So, by her own account, the claim of his military service and POW status was provided by only one source and corroborated by none, but, for some reason she found it an important enough aspect of the story to add it with very specific qualifiers that would give her a loop hole when the inevitable truth came out. My only question for her is why was a military service and possible PTSD angle so important to the story that it couldn’t wait until it was verified?
I’m going to say because she, just like every other hack, can’t resist the urge to jump on that crazed, he’s got the PTSD, veteran bandwagon. That, and she’s a piss poor reporter. My observation.
Ya mean he wasn’t really a POW? Color me shocked, SHOCKED!
spew alert….
Neil deGrasse Tyson sure has let himself go.
