Fellow who ambushed troopers was reenactor

| September 18, 2014

Eric Matthew Frein

Last weekend, we reported a bit about the Pennsylvania State Troopers who were ambushed at their barracks in Blooming Grove. Today at Fox News we read that the fellow they’re looking for in regards to the attack, Eric Matthew Frein, is an East European soldier reenactor;

Frein has also changed his hairstyle. He shaved his head on the sides and has long hair on top that Bivens described as “wider than a Mohawk.”

Investigators believe the hair change was part of his preparations for the “cowardly” attack, Bivens said.

More than 150 law enforcement officers fanned out across the dense northeastern Pennsylvania woods Wednesday as they tracked Frein, who is believed to be armed with two high-powered rifles and a grudge against police he’s had since 2006. Frein was identified by police as the gunman who killed one trooper and injured another in a late-night ambush outside a state police barracks.

So, that explains it all to me – he’s reenacting PTSD, like a real soldier. The haircut probably pushed him over the edge. I hope that he’s not captured alive and I also hope that his killing of the members of the thin blue line is over.

So the ass hole goes and gets a Robert De Nero, Taxi Driver hair cut and he was probably talking to himself in the mirror. Screw him and I hope he’s NOT TAKEN ALIVE but aerated sufficiently to read a news paper through his carcass.

David

Another wannabe getting a high ‘n tight? Earlier they reported that his “gridge against police” is due to an arrest as a thief.

Hawk

We generally see a lack of personal responsibility for these types of people. Never do they think “maybe I shouldn’t have done something stupid” but rather “The hell with the person/group that caught me”.

Phil

Who the heck reenacts being an E German soldier? What do they do, stand by a concrete wall and not let people go past it?

2/17 Air Cav

Phil: For the sake of others, please use a Spew/Spill Alert hereafter. That is some seriously funny shit.

I’m a French soldier re-enactor. You can take it from there.

Hondo

I presume that means your boots are by Adidas?

Eric

I look forward to rooting for you in the next Olympic Marathon…

David

so what does a French re-enactor do? Pretend to plant shade trees along the Champs Elysee? (We all know Germans hate to march in the sun)

Roger in Republic

I don’t know what they do, but the do it wearing brown pants.

Thunderstixx

Ummm I would venture a guess that a French Re-enactor would be busy with a program of how to make white flags out of underwear, sheets, towels, carpet, oil rags etc….
Also on the docket would be a course in surrender in all the world’s languages…

James in Gulf Breeze

Do you know how wide the streets in Paris are? Wide enough for German Tanks!!

Roger in Republic

Actually when Napoleon rebuilt Paris he specifically designed the wide streets so they would be hard to barricade and so he could shoot cannons straight down them to break up troop concentrations in the event of insurrection. He was an artilleryman after all.

LIRight

A nice Beaujolais and truffles for breakfast during re-enactment?

Civilwarrior

For the record, he is wearing what appears to be Serbian insignia and uniform accessories, and blah, blah, blah.

Club Manager

Jonn, have to disagree with capturing the dirt bag alive. In the early 50’s when I was growing up in New York City, if you killed a cop they killed you. I recall a cop killer brought back from Chicago that was shot and killed trying to escape once back on the ground in NYC. Crude but an effective deterrent until the drugs and other factors came into play. Why spend money needed for other priorities to try the asshole then house, feed, cloth and provide medical the rest of his life? Does PA have a death penalty?

Hondo

Um, Club Manager – I think you misread a word in Jonn’s article.

PavePusher

Well, there’s this silly little thing called “The Constitution” and “due process”, and the fact that we really don’t want police running around summarily executing ANYONE just on their say-so…..

YMMV.

Adam

There were also reports that he had Soviet propaganda on his Facebook and MySpace pages. I’m sure the media will jump all over this now.

Country Singer

“…believed to be armed with two high-powered rifles…”

Just once I’d like to see a news story about a guy with a low-powered rifle.

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

To defeat armor …

2 to the chest.

1 to the head.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Or as my old sarge used to say, how to win hearts and minds MCPO….

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

VOV … You kill a cop and run in these parts up here (NY, NJ, PA, CT) … you are as good as dead if they get a bead on you!

Do you remember what happened a few years back with the NYS Troopers?

There was an army of Troopers from 6 states till they got their man!

Old Trooper

Head shot. 800 yards. Miller time.

Flagwaver

They are probably going to scrutinize WWII reenactments now… possibly Civil and Revolutionary war reenactments, too. You know, for those anti-government sentiments of the German, Confederate, and Loyalist actors.

RangerX

Don’t forget those who re-enact the Wars for Scottish Independence or the Roman Legions. Nothing says sociopath like blue woad or a bronze sword.

Steadfast&Loyal

Is it me or is that a Serb irregular uniform?

Maybe I’m being too critical.

Eric

I don’t recall ever seeing a Serb Regular uniform. Badum-tish!

Eric

I’ll place a bet that if this guy surrenders, or is caught “alive” that he “resists arrest” and tries to “gun down” another officer on the way back to the jailhouse and is killed in a shootout. (With or without a finger gun going “pew pew”)

Any Takers?

MrBill

We can only hope.

usacivpol

His hat is Chetnik, Serbian troops loyal to the king during WWII, worn wrong.
His patch is modern Serb. His gear is fuck all.

The Other Whitey

In other words, airsoft?

PavePusher

CNN had some stupid things to say about his weapons on the Anderson Cooper segment last night.

Apparently, AK-pattern rifles can be “converted back to full auto”…..

And a .308 deer rifle, oops, we mean sniper rifle, fires a big, heavy, supersonic bullet.

Really, that’s what they said.

Hondo

In theory, any semi-automatic weapon can be converted to full auto by someone with the requisite knowledge, skills, tools, and materials. Actually doing it, of course, may well be VERY non-trivial – as well as require fabrication of custom parts and modifications. And the converted weapon may not exactly be terribly reliable, either.

And the last time I checked, most rifle bullets (and most pistol bullets, for that matter) travel faster than 1,124.55 ft/second – which is the speed of sound at sea level under standard conditions.

Thunderstixx

The .45 Cal round generally travels about 845 Ft./Sec making it a non supersonic round. The slug is so big and pack such a punch that hitting someone in the wrist will spin them around and down to the ground.
I actually remembered that from Basic Training when we shot the .45 1911 Gov’t issue rounds.
They told us to aim low because the recoil on the big slow moving round will be tossed higher than the target as the recoil moves the barrel up before the round leaves the barrel.
Those are general issue FMJ and other stock rounds.

Hondo

I knew the .45ACP was subsonic, Thunderstixx – I was remembering around 900FPS. But apparently more other common handgun loads are subsonic than I realized.

Most do seem to be supersonic, at least at the muzzle. But according to the chart below a surprising number aren’t.

http://www.chuckhawks.com/handgun_power_chart.htm

David

Most of those supersonic rounds are specialized loads using very light bullets for the caliber at higher-than-normal velocities, with the intent of producing high kinetic energy numbers at short ranges. There are not that many handgun calibers whose “normal” loads are supersonic (mostly the ones with “magnum” in their names.)

Climb to Glory

Oh how the media wanted this lunatic to be a deranged veteran. They wanted it so bad. What they got was some wannabe loser that was probably a member of the Janos tin foil hat brigade.

Roger in Republic

He must be a veteran of “World of Warcraft”.

OLDAV8R

Can you catch virtual PTSD?

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

Yes … Ask the guyz flying the drones!

Steadfast&Loyal

well those are better then the Faster Then Light kind.

Those fuckers are nasty.

Geetwillickers

Well, his dad is a vet. So he prolly has the inheritable, genetic form of teh PTSD.

/sarc

That is all…

Just An Old Dog

I did Civil War reenacting for a bit. the community was pretty mixed. We had Evryone from a high-powered L. A, Lawyer who owned 4 cannons ( plus the horses to pull them) to guys who were in their 40s and working at a 7/11.
They were pretty much an OK group. A few lost causers, but generally friendly types who looked out for each other.
This guy seemed like a loner type that created his own genre. I have never seen or heard of an Eastern European 1990s style reenactor. it looks like hes reenacting rthe bad guys frm the Movie “behind enemy lines”

Country Singer

The Eastern Euro reenacting has been around for a while, but I’ve never heard of a 90s era impression. I do have a friend that does WWII Soviet (he also does WoNA Yankee).

Martinjmpr

“Eastern European Reenactor?”

So, that’s a thing now?

Herbert J Messkit

Opens up a whole new world for fakers. They can claim they were Bulgarian special forces and their records were destroyed when the Soviet Union collapsed
