William Noonan; Unnecessary embellishment
Scottie sends us his work on this William Noonan fellow who had no reason to embellish his military career, but then he did. Scottie says that according to his records, he was a Marine, served in Vietnam for a month, then he was wounded and evacuated. He earned a Purple Heart and a Combat Action Ribbon, but I guess that wasn’t enough. He added some parachute wings, a diver bubble, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star with a Valor device. Then, when confronted, he locked his Facebook page down tighter than a whale’s anus.
And, oh, yeah, you know he had to claim that he was Force Recon.
He also claimed that he was a Khe Sahn survivor even though the battle ended 6 months before he got to Vietnam.
Category: Phony soldiers
Here it comes……”PTSD made me…blah, blah blah……mental illness/dementia/Alzheimers…blah, blah, blah…..Honoring my battle buddies…..blah, blah, blah. YOU WEREN’T THERE MAN. YOU DON’T KNOW….Blah blah.
LOLS!! You guys just make me laugh so hard… wow…
Sh!t, another one wearing what looks like club colors. And this one’s sporting Chapter Sergeant at Arms and Road Captain patches to boot.
Looks like SC Chapter of Combat Vets MC. http://www.cvmaofsc.org/
I don’t understand folks embellishing perfectly honorable service…
It seems that a lot of Vet MCs are riddled with these folks.
Not to start the debate again as some are great organizations that do a lot of good.
But as pointed out, this clown is an officer within the group.
Just sad.
I wonder how he was outed?
CVMA is not a motorcycle club; they are a social club and yes there is a distinction. I know 2 members of CVMA and I even asked them what they had to do to become a member and they both told me “Provide a DD-214.” Not everyone is aware of how rampant stolen valor is and not everyone knows how to spot a fake 214. I didn’t really know until I stumbled across you guys a few years ago. The key is in how the CVMA, or any other organization that prides themselves with having members of the military and veterans, reacts to knowing that one of their members lied or misrepresented their service. I don’t know what, if anything, the CVMA will do but give them the benefit of the doubt
Dont worry. Just gave them the info abnout this faker.
They know – the President wrote to tell me that they booted him.
He is with the CVMA Combat Vets Military Association. AS am I but different states and chapters. Vets helping vets is what we do. But he is gonna have some explaining to do.
PS & FYI Phiil da monkeyazz of All Points Logistics is not eligible to ride with us.
Just want to clarify. The CVMA is not an MC. There is a CVMA chapter in my neck of the woods, but they are not very active in the community that I can tell.
My error (above), referring to CVMA as a MC… I see it is not.
Just to clarify, the CVMA is not an MC. They are an association. Not that it matters much to this conversation.
It is a shame that he had perfectly honorable service and ruined it. I don’t understand it.
MC is a huge difference. I won’t belong to one. MCs all belong to the state council of MCs, where known criminal associations are given a seat at the table.
I won’t debate the MC issue because I won’t change your mind and you won’t change my mine, but in fairness, there are many mainstream organizations that allow those with known criminal associations a seat at the table.
Also not all MCs belong to the state COC.
To add to my previous statement, many mainstream organizations allow not only known criminal associations, but criminals as well. Not saying it’s right, just pointing it out.
AGEFMB you beat me to it. I was going to mention that very thing, that not all MCs are part of a COC or UME.
“many mainstream organizations allow not only known criminal associations, but criminals as well” – AFEFMB, I assume you mean Congress, the Senate, Legislatures, etc?
David…..lol….to name a few.
Sapper3307 – the CVMA is the Combat Veterans MOTORCYCLE Association…not military. Ummm…wouldn’t a member know that?
Nice typo catch thank you. My poor grammar brings dishonor to this sight.
Okay, I’m not going to get into the whole MC vs association thing. I understand that those of us not part of the biker scene throwing those terms around, is like civlians referring to all Special Operations as Special Forces. In the past I’ve tried to make the point about a signficant number of phonies also being bikers, and I verbally flogged because I used the “MC” term. I would equate the argument I’m trying to make like an arguemnt I once heard about terrorism. Someone said “Not all Muslims are terrorist.” To which, someone responded, yeah but how many Lutheran suicide bombers have you ever hear of?” I know not all veteran bikers are phonies. I have some very good friends who are vets, that enjoy the camaraderie of riding with other vets. I totally get it. But I have just seen a lot of phonies like to attach themselves to the “biker-vet” scene. It’s just my observation…and only my un-scientific observation..that the percentage of of phonies/embellishers within the biker-vet community may be somewhat higher than the percentage of phonies/embellishers within the general vet population. YES, I know there are PLENTY of phonies who have never sat down on a bike in their lives. My only advice is that the biker-vet “gatherings” could do a better job of self-inspection. But of course, that could also said about a lot of local VSO posts too.
Your SF/MC analogy was good. I agree that the number of biker phonies seems to be disproportionately high. As a member of a Veteran MC, I can tell you that the only ones that I have any say in policing are the members of my own Club. I have zero ability to publicly call out members of other Clubs. I’ve had to bite my tongue more times than I can remember and it blows. However, it is the price I pay to be in an MC and it doesn’t affect me taking anyone not in the MC community to task on bullshit claims. Unfortunately, that only leaves me with independents in the biker community and very few of them wear anything military related around here other than maybe a branch of service patch
Average NCO: Good analogy.
Jabatam, your assessment is good as well.
The more military shit I see on a vest, the more I think phony. It may not be accurate, but it’s based on experience.
A patch or two is not usually and indicator, but when someone set their vest up with everything that belongs on a dress uniform…..I begin to wonder.
Hondo, this is the CVMA, and we are a 501c whose mission is vets helping vets. we ride motorcycles, but more importantly we support veteran’s hospitals, and veterans who are in need of assistance. I am a proud member and I know that just like in any large organization, there are always issues.
In this case, the board has been notified and are looking into the matter as we take our reputation seriously and want to be seen as what we are, a group of veterans who care for others. We don’t claim to be an MC or conduct ourselves that way. I can’t speak to this man’s service but I can wait and see what happens after he is given the chance to exonerate himself. I will withhold judgment, and ask the same of the other readers.
I’d suggest asking the guy to sign a SF180 giving the board access to his records. I would not suggest taking any documents he might hand you at face value – they’re simply too easy to “obtain” these days.
I for one would love to hear his explanation for the BSM w/V and Silver Star he’s sporting. If legit, I kinda doubt those would be missing from his officials records.
Following the rash of ‘veteran bikers’ who are embellishing and/or posers, I would reiterate what Jabatam has said. In the case of many, however, the organization does require a 214 (I was a charter member of CVMA); as a member now of a Veteran’s MC, we were required to submit a SF 180 and have the record delivered to a club Secretary for review by the board BEFORE you could prospect. The issue is that, as in this case, the individual IS qualified to be in the club by the bylaws; the embellishment is something that not all ‘brothers’ would know; but, as in my club, if you lie to a fellow member, punishment (to include being put out) is likely! If a chapter doesn’t respond, then the culprit may pull it off indefinitely….
We go after the ones that never were in the military, the ones that show disrespect to our fallen….but it’s really hard when we find one of our own telling lies about myself. Then find out he IS a combat veteran and served this country with Honor. Why he did it…regardless, he knew the difference between right and wrong.
Sad.
Just sad.
You would think after 45 years and especially being the Chapter Sgt at Arms you would know not to have your CAR on upside down.
Yep, combat veteran with a Purple Heart who feels the need to embellish additional awards and make up stories about being at Khe Sahn and being Force Recon? This just saddens me because it was so unnecessary.
Sadly, Mustang1LT – this guy’s not the first we’ve seen to do that, and almost certainly won’t be the last.
Oh I know. Been checking in here for about 2 years and these are the worst.
Agreed. They’re the truly sad cases.
You and your men still all doing well?
Yeah, we’re doing well. Actually ahead of schedule on our projects and I’m doing a little side job out here that utilizes my civilian work skills. So far so good.
Excellent, 1LT! Take care, bro.
hmmm, 100 percent disabled but able to have fun on his motorcycle??? PTSD sure is hell.
So if you have PTSD you’re not supposed to enjoy anything? I agree he’s a pos but you’re either an asshole or an idiot. My guess is maybe both, not sure.
I’m rated at 90% and ride my Harley frequently. It depends on what the rating is for. Obviously, serious physical issues would make riding difficult. However, I’ve found riding is extremely therapeutic for mental issues
I’m rated at 100% and would love nothing more than to get the wind in my face. I’d need a trike though, and those things can be pricey.
Look at used Can-Am. Just like a used car the prices go down a lot after a couple years.
I’ve looked at them. I was thinking more along the lines of a Sportster with a Frankenstein kit. I can get into one of those cheaper than a used Can-Am I think, and it’s low enough that I can get on it from my chair easier.
I am 100% and I ride! Does that bother you?
Came across one today at work, and it just pisses me the f off. Forwarded my concerns to the proper folks here. It was so blatant though, it just screamed at me from the monitor when I saw it.
I just don’t get it, especially if you had an Honorable Career!! Why toss it away trying to look like a Hero, when you were one dammit!!
Makes me sick at heart to see a guy with honorable service anyone would be proud of have to cop to the big lie. I’ve got Force recon friends. Much as I like and respect them, I’ve never felt a compelling need to steal their thunder, and have never understood it in those that actually did serve. As much as I despise Round Ranger and Round Marine (A shout out William derek Church) this hurts worse deep in the gut.
I originally served 3 years AD Army in the early nineties, came back into the NG after a nine year break in service and then did two tours in the ME, I feel like I have NOTHING to feel ashamed about and I have NO URGE whatsoever to embellish. I wonder what other issues this critter has, let’s remember that stuff like this is nearly always a side effect of something worse!! I remember a comment from another fellow in one of SCPO Shipley’s videos, he was standing behind SCPO Shipley and said that there IS NOTHING to be ashamed of in serving PERIOD, not many can even make it in and plenty wash out of training, whether you were a Grunt, Gun Bunny, Wrench Dog, Spoon, or a Clerk, there is never a need to embellish!
It must have been Don Shipley’s hair…
That is enough to give anyone conniption fits !!!
Rice Paddy Daddy roll call!!!
Hey – I’m a Khe San survivor too. Of course pretty much all of us in San Diego survived it OK.
Hey, I survived Khe San too!
Of course, I was 11 years old at the time, living with my parents in Virginia.
Imagine if you will all do so if Chevy and Phil Monkress had a child together.
This dumbass is that child.
“Thighter than a whales anus”!
Nothing more … While I spat my PR made margarita all over the bar!
I have been on my sailboat for the last week or so, partly to get away from idiots like this one. In the summer I see at least a half dozen of these patch covered, ribbon wrapped, badge bearing, vest veneered pin heads every week. Own a restaurant on the river and they just flock in. This one is not even a sniper. Why does nobody seem to know what the reconnaissance unit for Force Service Support Group actually did? I don’t want to confuse these mental giants with facts, I guess it just sounds kool.
There’s another one in cvma, commander no less, claims a BS in the Marines. Claims he can’t get his dd214. Funny thing though, I got a copy of it under the FOIA and there’s no BS listed.
This doesn’t make me sad…it pisses me off. This is just another truth molester who knows better.
With all of the posers being kicked out of their respective MC, groups, etc., they could probably form their own.
Big “Turd”, Magsam, etc.
Phildo and the boys can ride again!
Great idea, GT. They could call it the MP-MC (Military Phoney Motorcycle Club). Or maybe the GDMF-MC (Greatly Devious Males and Females Motorcycle Club).
Has anyone from this site notified the CVMA. They are a national organization and help many vets in need. They are proud of their service to the country and frown heavily on anyone tarnishing their image.
Yes it has been done. Waiting on an answer.
Jlakes: The CVMA has a legit copy of his ACTUAL record and his information has been verified. the individual has it out for Noonan for some reason and the docs posted are not legit. the CVMA board of directors sees hundreds of 214s and they know how to spot a fake. that being said, the NBOD is comprised of at least 2, maybe 3 vietnam vets…they know one of their own.
I am praying folks withhold judgment until it can be looked into. Seeing it from the CVMA side it looks like someone is targeting him.
Seeing it as a member of the “this ain’t hell” community we have seen all the excuses before so we are extremely jaded to this.
It really hits home for me on this one, and I am praying it will be sorted out satisfactorily for all.
Gypsy…….the docs shown here are the real deal. Released under the FOIA. Whatever Noonan submitted is NOT.
Then why did he lock down his page if he’s legit?
If Noonan was legit why would he shutdown his Facebook, with all his claims!
Good question!
His FB page lists the date of his first kiss? What a loser! 🙂
In all seriousness, this really is sad considering that he DID serve his country and was wounded. Why do people feel the need to embellish the role they played? He did more than enough as is.
The MC Chapter Commander writes to tell us that Mr. Noonan has been expelled from their ranks.
Roger that.
I can only imagine he will start making his way to Florida.
Wonder if he’ll still enjoy the wing specials at bike night at BWW
Good to hear. Thanks for the update, Jonn.
Time for an apology letter from Mr. Noonan.
Of course I won’t hold my breath until it happens though.
Will he be prosecuted under the stolen valor act?
He is an Former friend, and Combat Vet member I knew. To me he is dead, I will not let this fellow Nam Vet go.
Lie, and bullshit is his way. No one rides or free.
He will have a come to Jesus meeting.
